ARCHIVED And The Misinformation Begins....
JillianLindsay replied to Lawspike's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The fries are deep-fried in the same fryer as breaded chicken wings, onion rings, cheeze sticks, etc. so it breeds cross-contamination. -
So I've been gluten-free (or so I believe) for 18 days. There was a 3 or 4 day period where I felt GREAT, my energy returned and my fogginess cleared. Sadly, it was short-lived. I can't figure out if I'm repeatedly getting glutened or if something else is affecting me. My most troubling symptoms are fatigue and foggy-headedness; I just feel so weak and...

ARCHIVED And The Misinformation Begins....
JillianLindsay replied to Lawspike's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My soccer team is sponsored by Boston Pizza and they happily informed me I could have french fries, cactus cut fries, chicken wings.... you get the idea. I had a bland salmon lol -
ARCHIVED Am I Overreacting?
JillianLindsay replied to DaisyDaisy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Daisy, Your story sounds very similar to mine and worth checking out. 3 days gluten-free shouldn't affect the blood test, just don't make any more diet changes if you are going to follow-through with seeking out a formal medical diagnosis. Good luck Jillian -
ARCHIVED Splenda
JillianLindsay replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am a coffee/tea drinker and my dentist told me to switch to sweetner because when they liquify in your drinks honey and sugar stick between your teeth and can cause cavities in places where your toothbrush and even floss can't reach. I am seeing a dietitian for the first time at the end of the month and will ask for her educated opinion -
ARCHIVED Ironsupplemrnts
JillianLindsay replied to luvthelake21's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can always call or email the company directly. Also, I do know that Wampole's is gluten-free as is the Life brand iron supplement. -
ARCHIVED And The Misinformation Begins....
JillianLindsay replied to Lawspike's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A friend of mine rolled her eyes at me and said she has IBS and lactose intolerance and she just takes a pill and/or suffers the consequences ... I told her that before I got diagnosed I started having seizures due to the severe stress my body was under. Not quite the same as "a little upset stomach". On a positive note, my soccer team wanted to... -
ARCHIVED Cutting The Starbucks Cord...
JillianLindsay replied to leadmeastray88's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hadn't had Starbucks since being diagnosed 2 weeks ago. I have a cup of coffee at home every morning with no problems. Yesterday I got a coffee at Starbucks and felt tired all day and today I have an upset stomach. I have light cream in my coffee every morning at home with no problem and the Starbucks is the only thing I changed in my diet yesterday... -
I made it through the tourney!! I even played well, scored a goal and had minimal pain. Heat throughout the week really helped. My AT thinks that means it is more likely arthritis, but I hope not. GP sent me for an X-ray to investigate further and recommended physio.... we shall see!
-
Thanks Kat, I think my AT and DR aren't sure what it is lol but we're sure it's not a tear. We're just not sure if it's simply due to the gluten, overuse, or arthritis... or a combination of any of them. They want to wait to see if the diet helps reduce or eliminate the pain. I've been using heat because the ice didn't work and I'll look into Arnica...

Hi everyone, I was very recently diagnosed (gluten-free for a week now!). For the past 6 weeks I've been experiencing severe knee pain. At first our team athletic therapist thought it was tendonitis from over-use after a tournament. I rested it and have been icing it twice a day, but last night it was so bad I had to ask to be taken out of my soccer...

JillianLindsay replied to Gerri's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I grew up in the GTA and am currently in Winnipeg (diagnosed here in the 'Peg) I'm brand new here, hi to my fellow Canadians -
ARCHIVED Am I Glutening Myself?
JillianLindsay replied to Karrin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Optimistic Mom -- I just happened to catch your signature and noticed your food exclusions due to a mold allergy and I feel a bit silly! I was DX with Celiac earlier this month but DX with a mold allergy as a child. I have continued to use gluten-free vinegar and smoked meats (when I'm sure they're gluten-free) but I never realized that reactions might... -
ARCHIVED Dh Can It Go Away Eventually?
JillianLindsay replied to hippo33's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Also, if you've only been completely gluten-free for a week then it will take time for your body to start repairing itself. I've also only been on the diet for 6 days. I am feeling a bit better but am told it takes 2weeks to 2months for your body to be back to "normal". Good luck -
ARCHIVED Anyone Not Able To Work Because Of Celiac Disease And Related Conditions?
JillianLindsay replied to GlutenGuy36's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been off work for 3 months after suffering seizures and extreme fatigue, dizziness, etc. I was only diagnosed earlier this month and am hoping to go back to work in August. I am slowly starting to feel better, but it has been a very rough journey. I've basically been sick for 7 months with no reprieve and it took them 6 months to figure out why... -
ARCHIVED Frequent Urination
JillianLindsay replied to shendler's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When you've gotten other bloodwork done, have they tested your sugar? Diabetes has a high co-relation with Celiac disease. I'm not a DR so don't let my suggestion worry you, but it's always worth discussing ongoing symtoms with your DR to see if there are other things s/he has missed. My internist said many DRs will just attribute everything to the Celiacs... -
ARCHIVED Ot - Singulair - Bad Reaction!
JillianLindsay replied to Jana315's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been on Singulair for years and never had a problem other than tiredness (and I take it at night of course so it's a welcome SA). When I was diagnosed with Celiac, my pharmacist called the company directly and they told her the product is gluten-free. Perhaps there's something else in it you are reacting to, or you could have a very sensitive stomach... -
ARCHIVED What Does You Glutening Knee Pain Feel Like?
JillianLindsay replied to CBaker88's topic in Sports and Fitness
My pain is getting worse and it's getting very frustrating because I love playing soccer so much! Something I realized was that I was indiscriminately taking advil before my matches without reading the ingredients and checking for gluten! -
Anger, Quick Temper, Depression
JillianLindsay replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh yes! I am a happy woman with the sweetest husband in the world (though I may be biased) I am very active and eat healthy. Before I was diagnosed and started to have symptoms (anemia, fatigue, dizziness, severe abdominal pain, etc) I experienced depression, anxiety, and worst of all was serious irritability, a quick temper, and felt angry most of the... -
ARCHIVED What Does You Glutening Knee Pain Feel Like?
JillianLindsay replied to CBaker88's topic in Sports and Fitness
Mine is bad and getting worse!! I've only been gluten free for.... 5 whole days lol I play soccer and have had terrible knee pain for the past 5-6 weeks. For me it's primarily the bottom of my knee cap and the inside of my knee. It seems to radiate to the outside and underneath my knee when it's at its worst and only hurts when I run.... -
I live in the St. James area and both Moxie's and Joey's at Polo Park mall have gluten-free menus now I've heard the head chef at Gasthaus has Celiac disease and can prepare excellent gluten-free meals but have yet to try. Prairie Ink in Polo Park mall (in McNally Robinson book store) is a nice cafe and its everyday menu has gluten-free items on it...

ARCHIVED Red Cactus Salsa Now Has Gluten Free Label
JillianLindsay replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Amy! I'm newly diagnosed and wasn't sure if salsas were safe. I'm in Canada so I'm not sure if that brand is available here, but I'll look in wal-mart as it's American-owned and hope for the best -
ARCHIVED Salsa?
JillianLindsay replied to coltsfan18's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am also newly diagnosed... almost all salsas and other tasty dips have onion powder and/or garlic powder in the ingredients... Is it safe to eat?? Thanks
