ARCHIVED I've Lost 30 Lbs This Year Without Trying
grainfree replied to The Fluffy Assassin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sorry to hear about the added complications. On the up side, knowing definitively what the problem is will help you manage, and take the guesswork out of what should be a pleasurable experience (dining). I wish you the best of luck. Keep us posted. -
ARCHIVED Raw Food Diet For Cats
grainfree replied to Jestgar's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I fed my 5 year old male cat a one-third protein, one-third carbohydrate, one-third steamed vegetable, cooked human food diet. (He loves green beans!) I became very interested in the studies of Dr. Pottenger ( www.ppnf.org ) and his noncooked food diet for cats. The study findings encouraged me to change many of my dietary habits. In addition to my cat's... -
ARCHIVED Horrible Experience With A Gastro
grainfree replied to mom26boys's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with your gastroenterologist. Trust your instincts, you felt better without gluten products, and for many that is diagnosis enough. I agree with ravenwoodglass and mushroom. They have offered the same advice I would have offered. I wish you a better experience. -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy/colonoscopy
grainfree replied to ksymonds84's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for the post. I fear the endoscopy procedure less than the preparation needed for it - gluten-inclusion diet. To cut through the myriad unknowns of what to eat I am seeking a diagnosis. The symptoms are wreaking havoc and a medical diagnosis will hopefully ease worries. Seems like an eternity away from today but. There you go. -
ARCHIVED Can Stress Cause Similar Symptoms?
grainfree replied to ranger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is certainly possible that stress can lead to physical symptoms including diarrhea. It has happened to me. Peppermint tea, lemon water, or a brisk walk have been calming for me. I wish you a better day. -
ARCHIVED Very Afraid
grainfree replied to Mistyspark's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mistyspark, I'm happy to hear you are noticing improvements so quickly. I cannot tell you what to do but can tell you I hope that the gluten-free diet eliminates all symptoms for you quickly! (I didn't mean to alarm you with the refractory stuff - hoping the diet will make you feel better!) -
ARCHIVED Very Afraid
grainfree replied to Mistyspark's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
And there is everything right with you that you are questioning your health symptoms and searching for answers. -
ARCHIVED Very Afraid
grainfree replied to Mistyspark's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mistyspark, Many people have adjusted their diets and lifestyles without need of a definitive medical diagnosis of celiac disease. Please remember though that refractory sprue is a condition in which the intestine is unable to heal even after maintaining a gluten absent diet. I agree with your and the other posters' replies and suggestions: being gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Pre-diagnosis?
grainfree replied to grainfree's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A very, very heavy sigh. It certainly was not the news I wanted but relieved to know something can now be done about it. A positive EMA. Sigh. Off to post-diagnosis. Thanks all for following. I feel like a member now? -
ARCHIVED Job's Tears
grainfree replied to KathiSharpe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi KathiSharpe, I have not tried Job's tears but I also would be interested in this as a side dish. The NIDDK lists it as an allowed food. -
ARCHIVED Pre-diagnosis?
grainfree replied to grainfree's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Tarnalberry, thanks for your concern. Peanut is something new? Situation would be different if the "offenders" are known, then easily avoided. Thanks again for posting - this one was shaky. I'm still feeling the effects five hours later. BTW still waiting for EMA result. -
ARCHIVED Pre-diagnosis?
grainfree replied to grainfree's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh peanuts. Itty bitty peanuts. Is it you which is causing my reaction? 37 minutes to regain steady breathing. A bit scary -
ARCHIVED Frustrated With Doctors And Test Results
grainfree replied to Mom of a Celiac toddler's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would have eliminated bread from my diet at age 6 months. A fussy eater when cereals were introduced. An aversion to bread my entire life. Perhaps my health would be better today, perhaps not. Pressure from society to conform is great when in dining circumstances. Consider that pressure is even greater when they are teenagers and vulnerable to drugs and... -
ARCHIVED Question Regarding Test On Sept. 9 - Long Post, Sorry
grainfree replied to Freda66's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Freda, I am awaiting my celiac blood screen result and in anticipation of a possible biopsy I have been consuming bread and pasta for more than two weeks every day. At this point I feel so sick that a blood or biopsy proven diagnosis seems unimportant. If the blood result is negative I will still on my own follow a gluten free diet due solely to my body... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread Crumb Mix
grainfree replied to momxyz's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
From the web: gluten free waffles, toast to extra brown, Cuisinart to crumb consistency, add preferred seasonings, olive oil et voila -
ARCHIVED New Symptoms After Starting Gluten-free Diet?
grainfree replied to BungalowBill's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Bill, I'm also fairly new to "celiac" but I can comment about the fatigue. I am in day 17 of straight gluten containing food eating and I feel awful - creaky, achy, tired, dark circles under eyes despite adequate sleep. As I write, the effects of bread eaten at dinner are hampering my writing - it feels just as you described - a sort of light headedness,... -
ARCHIVED Anyone React To Dates (like In Larabars)?
grainfree replied to rubyred's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Loved dates. Loaded with B vitamins. But can be covered with powdered gluten to keep them from sticking. Same goes for many dried fruits. Not at all labeled when I looked. -
ARCHIVED Horrible Slate Article
grainfree replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
"It" refers to an article other than the Slate article. It was a well written article (not the Slate article) that led to my questioning celiac disease in myself. The Slate article was the opposite to the one I referred to. Currently awaiting blood test result. Looking forward to feeling better whatever the result! -
ARCHIVED Newbie
grainfree replied to Heath117t's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Heather, so sorry to hear you have been unwell but good news that it can now be changed. I believe I am a couple of steps away from a positive result of celiac disease. I am sure others will reply very soon about your next steps. I felt/feel a little scared as well about what a diagnosis of celiac disease will mean, but knowing that feeling better and staying... -

ARCHIVED What Is Going On?
grainfree replied to Lori and Kieran's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lori and Keiran, so sorry to hear your son is feeling unwell. Apparently I was a very fussy eater when cereals were introduced and have not been a big bread eater my entire life. I developed autoimmune thyroiditis in my teens. A first degree relative has just been diagnosed and I am preparing for further testing in myself. Scientific evidence may be the course... -
ARCHIVED Pre-diagnosis?
grainfree replied to grainfree's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Joyce, I'm so sorry to hear how severely unwell you have felt. I have found in those instances of extreme pain that going to the basic diet - lean meat, fish, fruit, veggies, seeds and nuts - has made me feel better. Since I last posted there has been blood test and biopsy proven celiac disease diagnosed in 1st degree relative. I am now "loading" gluten daily... -
ARCHIVED Horrible Slate Article
grainfree replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
It was a well written article which led to questioning celiac disease in myself and now probable pending diagnosis. Thumbs down to the Slate article. -
ARCHIVED Pre-diagnosis?
grainfree replied to grainfree's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Um, anybody have fun with red beets??? Jeez. It was only less than a cup and it's still running through me two days later. Just need to rant. Smoked meat on RYE bread with mustard a little bit ago. Cannot stay awake. The lactose free diet - I do see a difference but the other symptoms are still there. Luckily this is a treatable condition but what a headache... -
