  1. Oh well she is fairly high end but not snooty, back in the days when i could eat pizza we ate at some real dives but they had the best pizza! We don't need to go to a place to be seen... both of us will be happy with really good food. I wanted to try both Lumi and Asia de Cuba when I was there last week, so maybe we will try them in June along with another...
  2. My mom has Celiac I'm sure of it, she has the big D all the time but will not give up bread under any condition, she is 80 and in excellent health and can't understand why she should give it up. When the big D gets out of hand she stops with the gluten and the runs stop right away. sigh. My brother is a maybe, he eats a lot of tums.... but although he...
  3. Jillian, I'll be back in June to see 3 Days of Rain, even thought Julia isn't getting great reviews I'm excited to see it. Sambuca was on my list but I didn't make it there, what is the restaurant like atmosphere wise... I'm going to be there with my best friend and she's umm high end, so I need to scope out a few really good places... I was worried...
  4. I was there last week and didn't get to try enough of their food! I had pizza and breadsticks and I wanted the carrot cake but was just too full. I have low blood pressure and use a lot of salt so I agree with the salt thing, I actually had to ask for a salt shaker and my waiter watched me salt up my pizza like I was committing a crime! But the food...
  5. Ok we are back from NYC, wow we had a wonderful time! We ate at the Risotteria twice and hit a lot of the other restaurants that were suggested in various places on this board. Blooms the Deli is closed, bummer. We did eat at the Oyster bar and they were fine with gluten-free, our waiter totally understood it and had had many customers with the problem...
  6. I've been wanting to order the gluten-free soy sauce packets from them... I already have the tabasco and A-1 Sauce from them... I can't really find anything to "fill in" my order to get the free shipping... I see they don't carry Annie's salad dressings and I'm not sure about the other salad dressings on the site... Some are Kraft but they have modified food...
  7. You asked if the "white bread has any gluten in it". Yes it does and this is apparently a misconception... that wheat bread (because it says wheat in it) contains gluten whereas white bread does not. Sadly both do, they are both made from wheat flour and both contain gluten. Once when I was in Trader Joes and was asking an employee about a sauce that...
  8. Well it certainly sounds right to me... why don't you start with asking your doctor to do the blood tests for Celiac ... and see what they turn up (remember to continue to eat gluten until you've had the tests). Depending on what the results are you can go from there. Susan
  9. thanks all I'm getting ready to leave for the train now, we are both so excited, will have a full report when we get home! Susan
  10. I have copied down the list of restaurants that have been posted here but was really looking forward to eating at Blooms Deli on 350 Lexington Ave, because I can have french fries... but the web site isn't working and I heard that they were undergoing some renovations, does anyone know if they are open?? Also we only have a few days but any suggestions...
  11. I just want to chime in on Angelina's lips here I'd bet my last dollar they are not enhanced as a matter of fact the skinny on her is that she had her top lip made smaller to match her bottom one. If you look at her pictures when she was a girl you will see that the top lip is actually bigger then it is now! Her lips are naturally very large.. my 14 year...
  12. Its a huge change for most of us, so I guess sadness is part of the deal for a lot of us. I was so sick that I welcomed anything that would make me feel better, however, that doesn't mean that I don't miss pizza and beer or sourdough bread, I do! I think eventually most of us move on and learn to enjoy new things... a lot of us really get into cooking...

    ARCHIVED A Useful Specialist?!

Hmmm I didn't think there was a shot that could change your food allergies? At any rate your allergist still may put you on a rotation diet after your testing results come back, mine did. I turned up allergic to a lot of stuff and I was told to leave it out of my diet for a few weeks, I was also give a drug (short acting, very few if any side effects...
  14. I get mine at Stop and Shop on Cape cod.
  15. Well the two places are so different, I go to Boston about once or twice a month at least (I'm on Cape Cod) and I went to college and lived right in town for 20 years... and I'm not tired of it yet. Its a fun city with lots of things to do, from shopping, art musems and galleries, science, aquarium, children's museums, tons of historical stuff, of course...
  16. I use cowboy charcoal and love it! susan
  17. I've eaten at the one in Hingham, MA and I've never had a problem... the first time I was there not one person there had heard of gluten!! However it was just before the lunch hour and I explained to them about flour and that it can't even touch my food. The manager said ok this is no problem and it wasn't. I had a wonderful meal (fajita plate) and I am...
  18. I'm allergic to pork as well, I tested allergic to it and if I eat it I get really sick. Someone said that they don't think it makes a difference what the cow ate before we eat it and I have to disagree, most cows are fed tons of antibiotics and hormones and I don't see how you can think thats good for you? I eat organic as often as possible and that...
  19. Hmmmm ok I did look but there was a lot of tiny writing! I'll look really carefully next time i go shopping, thanks! Susan
  20. does anyone know if these flours have cross contamination issues with peanuts/tree nuts? It lists them as wheat free (some soy free, whatever) but it doesn't mention nuts. We have found it almost impossible to bake hardly anything because of the issues most mixes and flours have with cross contamination. Thanks, Susan
  21. Wow I found the Franklin Farms burgers in my local grocery store but they don't say gluten-free on them... are all flavors gluten free? Susan
  22. Depending where the eosinophil cells are it can cause problems almost anywhere including in other organs. Eosinophil cells are often related to allergies... so if they find them they start tons of allergy testing. I actually had ulcer like problems all thru out my stomach and small and large intestine. Prior to getting the results back from pathology...
  23. No gluten is not absorbed thru the skin. Some Celiac's do have skin problems when they put lotions containing wheat on their skin (rashes and dermatitis herpiformis) but I'd say most of us do not. The problem is that its very hard to keep skin lotions away from our mouths.. you have to be really careful not to apply near your mouth and then to wash your...
  24. I've never seen Sunshine burgers or Franklin Farms... are they sold in MA do you by chance know? And the ones from Whole Foods.... you said they were by the tofu... are they labeled gluten free? I've looked for a veggie burger for a year at least so I'd love to find these! Thanks, Susan
  25. Ask your doctor if they are going to use the biopsy's to check for eosinophilic gastroenteritis. I had them along with some in my stomach and I have EG positively confirmed by the biopsy's. They don't always look for it because its fairly rare. Susan
