ARCHIVED Baking Powder
pixiegirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm going to make some corn bread later on this afternoon (actually I was going to make it this morning but didn't have any baking powder) and before I buy baking powder, is all of it gluten-free or do I have to stick to certain brands?? Thanks, Susan -
I don't want to beat this issue into the ground or make someone feel bad or picked on, but I just have a quick comment to make about "condoning cheating after a certain point in life". My question would be..... how do you decide when that certain point is? A short (and true story): My grandfather at 80 was healthy and living in his own house, had a...

ARCHIVED I Need Help
pixiegirl replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wish we would all sign our posts in some way, I hate addressing people as: Dear tiredofdoctors.... lol anyhow, I've been mostly gluten-free for a year now, but I've still been having symptoms... a very nice woman on another Celiac list convinced me that I was still being glutened so now I'm in the process of tossing out tons of stuff, tons..... I... -
They sound great, care to send/post the recipes? Susan

ARCHIVED Sephora Products
pixiegirl replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wonderful, I love when a company gets back to you right away and knows what they are talking about. I'm also trying to make a really complete list of cosmetics/lotions, I love to try new products and this list will really help. I've written to a bunch of companies and some have never bothered to get back to me... its been weeks and I guess they just... -
I so agree with the post above and I too have lost a lot of respect for the medical profession, no one seems to care any more. It took me 11 years to get diagnosed and I had to change doctors to get it done. I was labeled as a hypocondriac by my former doctor which really annoyed me because I've not had tons of things wrong with me, as a matter of fact...

ARCHIVED Well I Just Found Out I Have Celiac Disease
pixiegirl replied to Baston8005's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
About the alcohol.... well wine is for sure ok and I drink vodka occasionally and don't react at all. I have read here many times that because alcolhol is distilled there is no gluten in it. I know that Absolute just said that to someone on one of the lists, yes it grain based but because of the distillation process there is no gluten in it at all.... -
Hey debbiewil, I'll one up you with that. I told my doctor for 12 years that I had the runs 10 times a day. It still took me 12 years to get a diagnoses! Its just not something that most doctors look for I guess. Crazy! Susan

ARCHIVED Tired And Fed Up, Frankly Self-pity.
pixiegirl replied to Matilda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When you figure it out let me know... I'm in sort of the same place right now, I'm not doing so well and no one can figure out why. I'm going to have my first endoscopy and colonoscopy in about 3 weeks... not really looking forward to it but eager to find out of something else is going on or if somehow I'm getting glutened (I just now got rid of all hair... -
ARCHIVED Well I Just Found Out I Have Celiac Disease
pixiegirl replied to Baston8005's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can still go out with the guys just don't drink beer... (although there are one or two gluten free beers but you won't find them at bars). Drink wine or if thats too wimpy for the "guys" drink scotch or bourbon (or whatever you like). I use to love beer but now I stick to wine or martini's. When you first learn you have Celiac it seems so restrictive... -
Sometimes I am... I'm single and that doesn't help either (and I work at home so no office comeraderie) but sometimes it seems like I don't go out at all any more... last week some people I know were going out but to a place I know can't do anything gluten-free. So I stayed home, I did feel lonely. I went from going out probably 5 times a week to a few...

ARCHIVED For Those Who Make Manna From Anna Bread
pixiegirl replied to luvs2eat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ditto the above, I love the Anna bread so much! It really tastes good and its not crumbly. I too am going to make stuffing from it. Susan -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free In Nashville
pixiegirl replied to pixiegirl's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the restaurant links! As far as Nashville.... just two of us are going to be there, my boyfriend and I... and we like... wel.... anything. When we were in Chattanooga we hit Rock City and Ruby Falls (nature type things) and really enjoyed them. We went to the small art gallery district and loved that too. We travel a lot, we love museums... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free In Nashville
pixiegirl replied to pixiegirl's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Darn, I wish you did eat out! We are going to be there for a couple of days and although I bring a lot of snack/power bars for breakfast and snacks we do eat out for dinner and maybe lunch. But if you have no suggestions for restaurants, I'd be happy to have some "what to do" suggestions. We have never been to Nashville and we have no idea what... -
I'm going to be in Nashville and Chattanooga (mostly Nashville) in 2 weeks, does anyone know any gluten free places there? Susan
-
Prior to being diagnosed as Celiac I use to eat there and I loved their food, but now any place with the word "bread" in their name... just isn't for me, too much change of cross contamination. I hope you feel better soon! Susan

ARCHIVED Low Body Tempature? A Cd Thing?
pixiegirl replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mine has always been very low... of course I also have low heart rate, low blood pressure and low cholestorl (except for the good kind which is high). I think its just individual from person to person. Susan -
ARCHIVED Sephora Products
pixiegirl replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wish I knew you contacted them, I'm trying to contact all the make up companies I can think of (like all the companies that are at Sephora and such). I've had a hard time finding out info about cosmetic companies, it seems there is a lot of food info out there but I've searched for a comprehensive list of cosmetic companies and it doesn't seem there a... -
ARCHIVED Sephora Products
pixiegirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wrote to Sephora about their own products and they sent me a letter stating none of their products are gluten-free. ************** Hello Susan, Thanks for contacting Sephora.com. Unfortunately, we do not currently offer any products that are guaranteed to be gluten-free. We recommend that you contact your doctor or dermatologist for suggestions... -
ARCHIVED Non-celiacs
pixiegirl replied to fisharefriendsnotfood's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Its not just a teenage thing... this summer when I was visiting family I had stopped at Whole Foods on the way to my sister in laws house, where I was staying for 5 days. There was a bunch of family there and they tasted some of my gluten-free stuff I had for myself and they did the same thing... ewww this is gross, how do you eat that. I just looked at... -
ARCHIVED Boston Market At Our Grocery Store Deli...
pixiegirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Our local Stop and Shop use to have perdue rotisserie chickens in the already cooked foods section of the deli. They were great when in a hurry and gluten-free. However now Stop and Shop has changed to Boston Market chickens (and other Boston Market foods too, mashed potatoes, squash...etc) and I don't know if they are gluten-free. On the Boston... -
ARCHIVED Chinese Buffets (thai And Indian Food Too)
pixiegirl replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The problem is there isn't a simple answer to your questions... its individual to each restaurant. You have to go to places that are near you and start working with the owner or manager to see if anything is gluten-free and about cross contamination issues. At my favorite Thai restaurant they don't speak enough english for me to feel comfortable with eating...
