ARCHIVED Can't Do The Biopsy
pixiegirl replied to Bonnie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I guess everyone has to decide for themselves if they need a "real" diagnoses or not. I'm mostly self diagnosed. My Dr. tested me for Celiac last year (blood test) and having never heard of Celiac I went online and had such an "ah ha" moment reading about it. I had the blood test and the following day went gluten-free. The blood test came back negative... -

Manna by Anna. Second place is Whole foods market. -
I agree not to rush into a decision, weigh all sides and try and figure out what is the best thing for you. I wish you the best! Susan

Well I'm gonna sort of disagree with all of you.... (sort of). My sister in law was the CFO of a major (huge) corp. for years. She was having job issues too, but "wouldn't let them make me quit". So for years she went on battling with them. Finally after gaining 50 lbs (from stress) having chest pains constantly, stomach pains, and being on anti depressants...

Well I agree the only way to be 100% sure is to cook at home. I certainly believe when you eat out there is some risk involved but at places like Legal Seafoods the risk is less then at places where they don't even know about gluten. Some people are willing to give up eating out, I'm not one of those people. I travel at least 2 times a month and am expected...

ARCHIVED Till I'm Blue In The Face!
pixiegirl replied to Nicolette's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Believe me, I bet almost all of us on this list have had similar experiences along the way.... the way I explain it now, is this: I explain it in the medical/scientific way but I end my lecture with: its like an allergy, even a crumb of gluten will make me ill, this "allergy" is life long. Using the words allergy (which most people understand) and life... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Double-decker?
pixiegirl replied to skbird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Jen, Dr. Koehler is my Dr. too. I saw her for the first time last week and was really impressed with her. On top of that we personally got along quite well so I feel really comfortable with her. Susan -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Double-decker?

Carrie are you in Canada?? I have heard that they go a lot lighter with the sedation there. I think how far under you go under is Dr. dependant, my GI doctor told me that as long as my heart rate and blood pressure stay stable I will be totally out for the procedures, she said she prefers it this way, but she did say some doctors prefer the patient more... -
ARCHIVED Chebe-plain Mix
pixiegirl replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I get a lot of fiber thru Citracel. I tried Metamucil but it causes tons of gas, the Citracil product says right on it that it does not ferment in your belly and thats been my experience. I tolerate it very well. Susan -
Hey there are 2 Susan's in this thread!!! But just to let you know Megan, this Susan also eats at PF Changs in Boston, I've had great experiences there too (except for parking!). Have you tried Elephant Walk in Cambridge, they are supposed to have a gluten-free menu and also if you like Indian, the Bombay Club offers gluten-free food as well, let...

ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Double-decker?
pixiegirl replied to skbird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Stephanie, I'm going to have both done in November (living in an area with a small community hospital they are backed up and that is the soonest I can get it). I've been so ill that I honestly can't wait to have them in hopes they will turn up something (easy to fix I hope). I saw my GI doctor yesterday and she said when she does them she likes... -

Hi Megan, Wow I eat at the Legal Seafoods in Copley Place and the one in Park Square all the time and I've never ever had a problem (oh, I've also been to the one at South Shore Mall too and no problems there either). They take allergies and food intolerances so seriously there, I often eat with my daughter who has a life threatening allergy to peanuts...

ARCHIVED Flu Vaccine
pixiegirl replied to cowgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
About 6 years ago I got the flu, I was sick for 17 days, in bed for about 10 of those. Since then I have gotten a flu shot and I've never been sick since, maybe a tiny cold but I've not once had the flu, I'm not taking a chance with that again. Susan PS - every time I get a flu shot I get a cold about a week later, the makers of the flu shot say the... -
ARCHIVED Is It Really Gf?
pixiegirl replied to mart's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am one that does not trust Frito or Lays, both make me sick every single time when I eat them... I'm not saying its definately gluten but there is something in them that does not agree with me. I can eat other brands of potato chips with no problems at all so its not potatoes or the greasy-ness of them. Also Soy Crisps bother me too. I have no problems... -
ARCHIVED Bob & Ruth's Gf Getaways
pixiegirl replied to Lauren M's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I've not taken any of their trips but I did hear on another list they are fun and well organized. What the heck, cruises are fun, you are going to a great part of the world and you won't have to worry about food! Sounds perfect! Have fun, I can't wait to hear your report! Susan -
ARCHIVED La Choy Soy Sauce
pixiegirl replied to knvb78's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use San-J too and like it. For some reason if I'm forced to eat La Choy I get sick every single time, they say its gluten-free but it certainly does a number on me. Susan (maybe I'm sensitive to just really bad tasting food) -
ARCHIVED I Know I Am Being Waaaaay Oversensitive Here
pixiegirl replied to skoki-mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, hmmm... yes its being sensitive but so what, we all get fed up at times and I totally understand where you are coming from. I'm not sure if you meant for your letter to be humorous (I really do understand you are annoyed with that situation), but it did make me laugh (the "this is Lori, she's celiac" part) so thanks for the laugh. My daughter has... -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods In Los Angeles - New Gf Items!
pixiegirl replied to Merika's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Whole foods gluten-free stuff is brought into the store frozen... I've found that if I get to the store and they are out of corn bread if I ask at the bakery they will go on the back freezer and bring some out for me (if they have it I often buy about 6 at a time because Whole Foods is about 45 minutes away from me so I stock up). So often when I get... -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods In Los Angeles - New Gf Items!
pixiegirl replied to Merika's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maya, Most of the Whole Foods on the east coast have these items already. I really love them too however they are expensive, I only buy them once in a great while because in our store most items are just under $7. a lot of money for a loaf of bread. I'm pretty sure most have dairy in them and they all can contain nuts. My only other complaint is... -
