  1. Prior to going gluten free in June, on of our twin daughters (the one with more "typical" Celiac symptoms , digestive) was ALWAYS I mean all the time hungry!!! Both sides, mine and my husbands, are overweight and I worry so much about teaching the children how to eat properly, etc and this just really upset me because I didn't know if she was bored or had...
  2. I totally agree with leaving her off gluten! It makes her sick; her body know it does and so does mommy. You both know what is right. You have done/are doing the right thing by not letting her eat it. You may run across people that think it's "terrible" that you are "withholding" the scared gluten from her. Please just ignore those. In our family...
  3. I just wanted to mention that they only things that helped my daughter with the itching where keeping her loaded up, constantly, with cornstarch rubbed into her skin, if you can have corn.............then right after a bath we would put CeraVe lotion on; it sinks in right away, then more cornstarch. Benadryl does absolutely nothing for her itching, btw...
  4. Are the honey Kix and Dora starts newly gluten-free? The last time I checked they weren't made on gluten-free lines. That would be so cool!!!
  5. We used to call our twin daughters our little raccoons because under their eyes were so dark. Now granted they have my colouring and I am very, icky white. But, since they have been gluten free since June their dark circles have really lightened up. As a matter of fact, there is a marked difference from last years school pictures. Our son who is five...
  6. Child abuse because you don't let you child eat gluten???? WTH??????? I consider it abuse to let them eat something that makes them so sick they cry and vomit and miss school and hold their tummy and beg to feel better............... Well, I suppose I should just stuff 'em all with MSG, artificial colours and dyes, etc. too. That would certainly...
  7. Speaking of beans, there is a recipe floating around for black bean brownies. We used to eat them on Weight Watchers before going gluten free but I bet they could be made with a gluten-free flour. I swear, noone ever would guess they had black beans in them!
  8. I am sorry you have such an unsupportive doctor, although I have to say I am not surprised. You are SO doing the right thing (as moms/dad seem to do ) and try not to worry about what he said. I know, easier said than done and the doctor was insulting. Btw, my kids were diagnosed also without an endoscopy and they said they would never ever ever eat...
  9. You probably know this, but if you choose the traditional route of testing (ped gastro, first a blood panel, then an endoscopy to take a biopsy) they have to be eating gluten. It is very important not to go gluten free first if you chose this route. We did for our twin daughters and the doctors said we would have to put them back on gluten for 6 months...
  10. If we all knew how the medical insurance industry works from a doctors viewpoint (esp HMO's) I think people would be less likely to criticize Dr. Fine. Does everyone really think their traditional doctor has their best interest in mind? Seriously..????? Most, but not all, do not. Think about all the terrible times people on these forums have had with...
  11. For one of my twin now gluten free daughters, GERD was her primary Celiac symptom. Her identical twin had more of the "typical" digestive issues. My daughter was put on prevacid for a little while and she got somewhat better but not enough for me. She went gluten-free on June 11 and just now she is basically 98 percent free of GERD. We also did some Enterolab...
  12. Hello, What brand(s) of gluten free soaps and shampoo/conditioner do you all use on your little ones? The previous poster really got me thinking because my daughters, who have been gluten-free since June, have a horrible itchy, red, bumpy, bleeding rash on their arms, legs, a little on face (not bad) and a little on their tummies. One has it much much...
  13. I am so glad you little one came through the procedure so well!!! I can imagine you were very nervous throughout it. I hope he feels better very soon on his new diet! It gets a lot easier over time! GOOD LUCK!
  14. Well, evidently my husbands mother used to plug up the toilet "as much as her sons" for years and then she was diagnosed with Celiac years later. Unfortunately my husbands best friend is the plunger, but thus far his Celiac tests have been negative. I think he is gluten intolerant though; he bloats up like Santa Claus after he eats pasta, bread, etc. ...
  15. You are right! I think I will switch dog foods. Our little ones, Teddy and DeeDee aren't usually picky so I'm sure we will find something they like that is safe for us too. The little girl is a rescue poodle and the poor thing will eat anything, she is so thankful for any food at all!
  16. First, you are not crazy, you are a good mom, like me Your child has many of the same symptoms that my twin daughters have had. Long story short, I was the one, not a doctor, who found out they are at the least gluten intolerant, and at the most, Celiac. Their paternal grandmother is an officially diagnosed Celiac so that got me thinking. First, I...
  17. The previous dog food thread got me thinking. We feed our two toy poodles Blue Buffalo Life Protection formula small breed formula dry food. I just looked and while it doesn't contain wheat, it does contains three kinds of barley. Would you be concerned about this. Honestly I breathe in the fumes two days a day when I scoop out their food and they both...
  18. I just want to say it is SO sad that family members don't trust/listen to the moms and dads of children and do what is best for the child. To have to "prove" a diagnosis to a family member is terrible.
  19. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING TO STOP THE DIARRHEA: HERE IS WHY You have been on antibiotics. They can cause an overgrowth of c. difficile a toxin that can be deadly. I know this because I almost passed on years ago from this problem. Had I taked immodium I would have died because it would have let all the c. difficile toxins stay in my system. I...
  20. I was on Prevacid for over 10 years for GERD but once I went gluten free I rarely have it anymore and have stopped taking meds for it. Sometimes it was so bad I would vomit and even the Preacid wouldn't help. GERD was the main symptom for one of my 9 year old daughters. The ped and gastro just wanted her to take pill after pill (NO WAY) but guess...
  21. Another thought is that perhaps she had developed another food intolerance. I have learned that sometimes gluten is not the only problem food for people: my daughter is also egg and casein intolerant.
  22. We love Enterolab. My husbands mother, my childrens father, has Celiac - diagnosed via blood and the gold standard biopsy. My twin daughers were sick for two years and I was getting nowhere with our doctor. They ran a Celiac panel on one but did not do the Total Iga so the panel was not even complete. I couldn't afford to go all the Enterolab testing...
  23. Hummus and little strips of vegetables made a nice lunch or snack. Also, our family likes the Glutino pretzels. Not bread, but starchy and good for dipping. We also dip them in peanut butter. La Tortilla makes some gluten free wraps. We didn't care for them, but I'm sure others do.
  24. You know, Rondar has a good point about dealing with school and family members. In our case, my husbands mother has celiac and my family is SO supportive we don't care about an official diagnosis. And our daughters (twins) are nine so we don't need help from the school at all. Now our little one is not in school yet though. There are so many factors...
  25. A heating pad set on low to medium on your stomach may help also. Good luck! It's NO fun to feel like that!!!!!!
