  1. We buy a huge container of Sunkist Almonds at Sams and they are delicious! We buy our sunflower seeds, not nuts I know, but...at Whole Foods, their 365 brand. I may try their other nuts sometimes. We also have a hard time with nuts because you are right, most are processed on same lines as wheat. No thanks! Oh, also the almonds we buy have no MSG!
  2. We chose not to do the endoscopy for our children because I was/am afraid of the sedation; they said they put all children out under a general. I had 2 endoscopies myself but I was just under heavy sedation and I had no problems but I do not feel comfortable with my children under a general except if they needed surgery for something that we didn't have...
  3. Enterolab does stool testing for gluten sensitivity/intolerance. It is very easy and you get "everything done" at home. They just send you the required test kit. They can also test for the gluten sensitity genes. Also for yeast, soy, egg and casein sensitivities. Some people don't feel Dr. Fines work is valid but for our family everything that we tested...
  4. Hi, I too have horrible mornings Mean, tired, foggy, bone exhausted.........I do as much as I can the night before to start the day (in my case make gluten free, casein free and egg free school lunches and snacks for my daughters, get their clothes ironed, mommy stuff). I just changed my dogs feeding schedule and they now get fed when I start to feel...
  5. Well, I am not trying to sound sarcastic, and yes, it is frustrating that food makes people sick, BUT please think about what the gluten is doing to your body. A lot of people love smoking, but geez, it makes them sick, full of cancer, etc. I try to consider myself and three young children lucky that we found out our problem, hopefully before it is too...
  6. My daughters (twins) are nine. Looking back they had gluten intolerant symptoms for years but about two years ago many problems, esp. the acid reflux with one of them and severe stomach pain with the other started.
  7. I would definitely suggest she do a food diary. My daughter also has intolerances to casein (the protein in milk) and eggs as well as gluten. So unless she is off of all three her gerd continues. When she was just gluten free it was better, but she still suffered. Gluten could really be part, but not all of the problem.
  8. Gosh, I hate to say this, but if the doctor is a such a creep you "may" have to say something along the lines of, oh say, wouldn't it be medical malpractice if he has the disease, we have asked repeatedly to have the blood tests, and you have refused? I'm sure there are better ways to get that point across, but again, that was my first thought. I'm...
  9. Oh yes, it sure sounds like a glutening to me. My two daughters, especially one of them, who are 9 and myself had severe stomach pain/cramping as our main gluten intolerance/celiac symptom. We would be SO sick . My daughter went throught their entire second grade year like that and everyone thought she had "issues" like separation. I went through a very...
  10. Thank you! We love Whole Foods and are so lucky to have 2 within 20 miles!!!
  11. Don't forget to get a new toothbrush!!! My children and I went gluten free in June then about three weeks into it I realized we were using our same toothbrushes Also, check anything you may be using on just your little one, like diaper rash ointment, baby shampoo, etc. Very good luck to you! Any big issue, let alone a health one, is SO hard with...
  12. Do any of you have your kids take probiotics? My 9 year old daughters and 5 year old son take vitamins, fish oil and calcium with vitamin D but I was thinking a probiotics may be good to add since the girls are back at school. They would have to be gluten free, casein free and egg free. Thanks!
  13. One of my daughters problem like that went away almost right away. She is nine and we could not believe she was haven't that issue and she was very very mortified. It had never happened again once she went gluten-free.
  14. My twin daughters have had horrible looking teeth since they first came in. Their baby teeth were full of big white spots then because yellow/brownish in "lines." One dentist said, don't worry, no big deal but we can "fix it" before their high school graduation picture." Then the next said "too much fluoride mom." Moved again and this time I heard it...
  15. I just wanted to mention that a lot of people with Celiac/gluten intolerance are also lactose intolerant. So that's just something you may want to keep in the back of your mind in case (hopefully) your little does better on the gluten-free diet, but you still sense there is room for improvement. Then, sometimes once the gut helps from the gluten damage...
  16. Hello. This is a great place to get help and suuport and many really good ideas on how to manage eating gluten free. In a nutshell, about 2 years ago my twin daughters started to have really really bad digestive issues (one mainly severe pain and diarrahea, all the time and the other GERD). One started getting bad migraines, both were diagnosed with asthma...
  17. One other point is that if you ever have to self-insure in the future, any pre-existing condition usually makes your rates skyrocket. They nailed my husband and I for everything and you have to disclosure everything. There are, however, benefits to getting an official diagnosis such as you may be able to deduct the price difference of buying gluten free...
  18. Lays and Ruffles have been hit or miss so we don't eat those now. The Lays Stax make me and one of my gluten-free daughters very sick even though they said they are on dedicated lines. All of the flavored gluten-free Chex cereals have made us sick, except the Rice Chex. We're disappointed about that, because my girls loved the chocolate and strawberry...
  19. For over 15 years I would get this rash on my back at least 10 times per year. The itchiness would drive me crazy and there were blisters that would have watery stuff in them and spread like mad. I was originally told by my primary doc that they looked like shingles, but I have never had chicken pox and do not have antibodies (per tieter) to chicken pox...
  20. If her IgA levels are too low the Celiac blood panel tests will not be accurate because they are measuring IG antibodies. Some people do not produce any or very many IgA antibodies which doesn't mean they are immune deficient or anything bad, but the typical Celiac screening tests aren't helpful. I believe in those cases they usually recommend a gene test...
  21. I'm so sorry your son is not feeling well. Just wanted to say that when me or my kids have horrible glutenaches, as we call them, we put a hot water bottle or heating pad on low/medium over the tummy and it helps takes the edge off.. good luck!
  22. My daughters and I (who are gluten-free) have gotten sick from all of the gluten-free Chex cereals except the rice chex. I did send them an email and they asked that I call their customer service department to discuss but I have not done that yet; I will though. We were very disappointed because they are often much less expensive than the other gluten...
  23. Hi, I was excited because I thought I finally found an allergy med that didn't make me feel lethargic or make me unable to sleep. I have been taking prescription Clarinex for 6 days. I had been noticing glutened symptoms again but thought maybe it was cc or something I had eaten. Well it just occured to me that I didn't call the company about the Clarinex...
  24. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Just wanted to say that many times a gluten problem goes along with a dairy problem so maybe you are dairy intolerance as well.? BTW, that is so awful that because someone is not wasting away (yet) that the doctors said it's okay to lose weight without trying. Also, it is very hard at first to make sure you aren't getting...
  25. Hello, Our family (mom, dad, three little kids - everyone but dad is gluten-free) will be spending a long weekend in Milwaukee. We are planning on taking all of our own food, but thought maybe we should see if there are gluten-free restaurants out there just in case we feel adventurous. We are new (this summer) to gluten-free and have not eaten ouy anywhere...
