  1. CC is an issue for sure. I think it would be a good idea to read the Celiac Awareness Restaurant Guide (thay may not be the exaxt name, but I am sure another member can post the exact name) so that you could ensure your celiac guests would be safe. Having said that, a cookie crust like oreos with some gluten-free cookies and cream ice cream would make my...
  2. Jersey Angel, you're right! My Granny used White Lily flour. I had forgotten about that, as I live in CA and they don't have it here. It's a very silky flour.
  3. DS just got home. Happy as a clam Betty Crocker gluten free brownies made in a cupcake cup with a York Peppermint Patties will always be a hit! Hint if you try it- put some brownie mix in the cupcake paper cup thing first, then add the patty, then more brownie mix. YUMMMMM
  4. yes, shape matters! If they're poofy on top, they've risen too much. Those crunchy little peaks on the top will ruin them, too.
  5. I looked at the photos in the link. At least in my experience, this is not what a Southern biscuit looks like. Regular gluten biscuits do not get those little holes in the inside. These look more like a bisquick drop biscuit which is very different. Maybe I am a weirdo, but southern biscuits have to be fairly smooth on top and basically flat, like a hockey...
  6. Creamy, very soft but not gummy inside. Like heavenly little pillows.
  7. My 9 year old is having his first sleepover away from home since his dx. He came to me and said "Mommy, I think it would be a good idea to pack some gluten free foods for me to eat so that I will be safe!" He is doing so well this, I just wanted to share how proud I am of him
  8. we haven't, but thanks for the tip! I will grab some for my son
  9. My experience with southern style biscuits is they are not flaky like Grands. It's a bit more dense, and not at all like a croissant. Call me if you need a taste tester! The buttermilk is what makes it creamy, and I did not detect a tangy flavor.
  10. Jason Elevated liver enzymes are common with Celiac. I wouldn't worry too much about it. As far as the tests go, have them all. It's better to know than to worry. Sorry about the job, but this just means that something better is waiting for you in the future Keep a positive attitude, walk on the sunny side of the street. When you get bummed, just...
  11. Rice Guy, you will be my hero again if your intent is to come up with recipe for a southern biscuit. My Granny made the best biscuits in the world. Ok, so size is important. They should be about 1 1/2 in high and 3 in around. The texture is hard to describe, but here goes: not crumbly inside, fluffy is best. It should hold together when you cut it in...
  12. Udi's sandwich bread Quinoa Pasta Betty Crocker Brownie Mix all delicious
  13. Au Lac does not have a gluten free menu, however the ENTIRE Raw menu is gluten free. It's all prepared on a different side of the kitchen from the other cooked stuff, and it's all good. The soups take some getting used to, because the flavors are not familiar to most. The fake meat is full of gluten, and they will tell you that they will not claim anything...

    ARCHIVED Heart Burn

Rolaids soft chews have gluten! I found out the hard way, but the regular tabs are fine. Gaviscon is very good. I used that while I was pregnant, and it was great. It's gross while chewing because it foams up in your mouth, but it coats everything with a protective layer. Tums work well for me. I've also used alka seltzer a few times. It lasts longer...
  15. No it's not ok. Think of it like this: gluten is poison to your intestines. Even though you can't "feel it," it is damaging your intestines.
  16. The easiest way to get started is with whole, unprocessed foods. Since you don't have celiac or gluten intolerance, it's probably ok to add replacement foods. Here are some of my favorites: Udi's whole grain bread- the best I've found, tastes "real" Glutino crackers Quinoa pasta- it's more firm than the rice or corn varieties Udi's muffins and pizza...
  17. Mskedi Thanks! I've been gluten free since July and I am still figuring out where to go. The Whole Foods in Tustin has a new Raw Bar, headed by the chef at 118 Degrees. Today is the grand opening, from 6-8. The food is delicious! Stonefire Grill has a gluten-free menu, but you have to ask. The LOVING HUT just opened in Ladera Ranch and Huntington...
  18. Mskedi Do you live in OC? If so, where are you favorite "non chain" places to eat? Thanks! I am feeling stuck and eat at 2 places: Au Lac in Fountain Valley and 118 Degrees in Costa Mesa. They're both raw/vegan, but I know I won't get sick there. I do love me some meat:) Janie
  19. There's an Outback in Anaheim on Harbor Blvd. There's a PF Changs in Gardenwalk on Katella. There are several Rubios (don't eat the chicken). Chipotle is close by in Fullerton. That's all I know of. I work in Anaheim, and have a hard time finding places to eat!
  20. I found this link. Looks like some great choices! Open Original Shared Link
  21. It's best to stick with whole foods: protein, fruits and veggies. Most have to give up dairy for awhile. Stay away from the gluten free products for a bit. Whole unproccessed foods are much easier on the tummy!
  22. Vitamins and supplements-check all labels for gluten! a good multivitamin B complex, or better yet sublingual b12 probiotics digestive enzymes That should be a good start!
  23. digisage, I had the same problem when I went gluten free. I was never bloated a day in my life until I started the diet. I found that I had developed numerous secondary intolerances while I was healing. I am still healing, but it is soooo much better. I've been off gluten for 6 months, and rarely have that gas pain. Your intestines have been through...
  24. I googled it, and it said the vinegar is MALT vinegar. That is probably the issue. The Heinz gluten-free list does NOT include HP.
  25. Jason There are many who believe that gluten intolerance is a baby case of Celiac. Same thing, just hasn't gotten bad enough to damage the intestines. In your case, you've been almost 100% gluten free long enough to skew the results, so you may not have gotten an accurate result. My assessment from the sum total of your posts is that you are sick and...
