  1. yes, you are one of us Welcome to the gluten free world! We're here to answer any questions you may have. IMHO , gluten sensitivity is just Celiac before it causes major intestinal damage. Either way, the fix is a lifelong gluten free diet,
  2. Jason, First, take a deep breath! I thik getting a new job that does not require as much travel would be really good for you! As long as you have confidence in yourself and sell your skills, you will be fantastic! I think just saying you have some food "allergies" would be more than enough explanation as to why you cannot partake in whatever is being...
  3. I have a friend who is 80+ with Celiac. She calls it Celiac Sprue, because that's what they called in back in the old days. Most current docs don't know diddly about Celiac, so I am fairly sure they didn't know much about it way back when. Lots of undiagnosed old folks, is my guess.
  4. Jackay, Have you tried a very basic elimination diet? It's very limited, and you get bored, but it sure does make you feel better when you figure our what is bothering you!
  5. My dear ex sister in law made brownies for my son and I yesterday. I brought all the extras ottom of home and tried one today. DIVINE! She used Betty Crocker brownie mix. BUT, she made them in a muffin pan in the little cupcake paper doohickey things, and put a York Peppermint Patty in the bottom of each one. YUMMMMMMMM
  6. have you given up dairy? That is frequently a problem.
  7. Jason, It does get better! Just give it time. If you're like me, you're thinking you want to strangle me for saying to give it time, LOL. I know that's what I wanted to do when someone told me that. You have to give your gut time to heal, and it will take a while. It varies for everyone. My recommendation is to stick with your boring food for 6 months...
  8. That is wonderful! It is so great to have a supportive family, who understand that you can't have "just a little bit." I was at my ex in-laws yesterday for Christmas (long story ) and my former sister in law, who is an incredible baker, made gluten free peppermint brownies for me and my ds AT Thanksgiving, I explained cc, etc. (because she asked)...
  9. have you had your iron checked? That's one of the things that can make you cold.
  10. Yes, most definitely the gluten reactions get worse the longer you are gluten free. Taco Bell uses uses wheat in the taco meat. Your daughter more than likely is Celiac. Doctors are notorious for not properly reading results. If it's not all positive, it's negative. You should probably be a gluten free household to keep your dh and dd safe
  11. All of my brothers and sisters are coming for dinner tonight. Here's the menu: Gumbo Ya Ya with chicken and andouille Brown Rice Baked Ham Yucca Buns (amazing! Recipe on Foodtv.com) Big salad Stuffed mushrooms pumpkin pie Flourless chocolate cake Let the eating begin! Merry Christmas to my gluten free family
  12. A, I also found out the hard way that the reactions become much more violent after being gluten free for some time. I think of it like this: If you are slowly ingesting poison, you may not notice it as much as if you ingesting a whole big bunch at once. Your body gets used to not being poisoned by gluten, and then when you get some- WHAM! your body goes...
  13. I am thankful that I now feel good most of the time. I am thankful that my ds was diagnosed early before he had to go through the years of ill health that I did. I am thankful to have two gorgeous boys and a wonderful Sweetie that has stayed through thick and thin and still loves me, even though I am a pain in the butt
  14. Jason, Did you go back on gluten for the endo? Janie
  15. So I figured out I got glutened by Rolaids Soft Chews. I stopped taking them on Sat Night, and by Monday, I was fine. I just felt terrible and had frequent D. This am I got my H1N1 nasal spray. I was fine til lunch, when I had a salad from the salad bar at Whole Foods. Lettuce, beets, chicken, radishes and red quinoa with gluten-free balsamic vinagarette...
  16. I dont have AC in my house either. The heater used to get a HUGE workout! I uese to keep the heat at 75! I went gluten-free in July. In September, my younger son, 9, started begging me to turn on the heat! He also was quite chilly. That's one of the things that prompted me to have him tested. He was positive. Now he keeps a jacket tied to his waste...
  17. You need another doctor! Telling a Celiac patient that they are too young for osteoporosis is like saying a 12 year old can't get pregnant! It's either ignorance or arrogance Osteoporosis if VERY common in Celiac. I was dxed with osteo at 32! I wo would also get a new rheumy and ask to have your SED rate and ANA's checked. It ticks me off that they...
  18. Yes! I was frozen solid for about 10 years. I wore coats in So Cal summer, always had a jacket in the car, along with an assortment of hats and gloves. air conditioning became my arch enemy. Within a week of going gluten free, I wasn't cold anymore. I used to sleep with an electric blanket all night, all year and now not at all. I've had to relearn...
  19. Did you have dairy with that meal? It's tough to do dairy for most of us until we are healed.
  20. I use the Apricot scrub daily with no issues. I have not tried the kettle chips. Ichecked the website and it claims to be gluten-free, but I have reacted to Cheetos, too. I think maybe it's the MSG?
  21. I have no idea, I didn't think to ask. This is the first time I've had a reaction like this from CC. Usually it's just a little heartburn, but man did I get hit this time! Iguess it's true that you react more as more time goes by. Prediagnosis, I always had C, never D. It's finally stopped, thank goodness. I thought I was going to have to live in the...
  22. They said the regular Rolaids are gluten free. The Softchews are made on shared lines.
  23. I think it stinks even more when you've done it to yourself! I usually buy the Target brand antacid tablets and have never had a problem. I went to Wal Mart the other day out and I wasnt sure about some of the ingredients in the WM brand antacids. I bought a BIG BOX of Rolaids Softchews. For the last 3 days, I thought I had the flu: extreme fatigue...
  24. BE patient. It's different with everyone, but almost everyone has ups and downs. I would recommend some sort of elimination diet, avoiding the major allergens: corn, soy, dairy, nuts, eggs. keep a food diary to keep track of reactions. Yes, it's a pain in the butt, but SO worth it. Take a good probiotic daily and enzymes with every meal. Check your...
  25. They say it's gluten free, but I react to it
