ARCHIVED Corn And Rice Allergy With Celiacs?
Wolicki replied to Tara Marie's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Secondary food intolerances are very common while your intestines are healing. I could not tolerate rice or corn and a few other things for about 4 months. I can now have rice again with no issues, but still issues with corn. You will find many with the same issues. It would be a good idea to keep a food diary to help you pinpoint foods that bother you... -
Roda, that's great! I had a similiar experience with a new PCP last week, an Osteopath. I simply asked how familiar he was with Celiac, and he only stopped citing examples when I told him "he passed." It is so comforting that my doc knows more about it than me! Yippeeee!

Jason, I agree, BIG strides! Just take it one day at a time! Since you seem to travel a lot, just be sure to take some great snacks with you in case you get into a pinch. When you're in larger cities, check out some vegan/raw restaurants. Almost no way to get CC, and you can have 99% of anything on the menu. Quite tasty, too. Keep up the great work!

Before going gluten-free, I had fevers almost every weekend, and my whole body hurt. The good news is that it all went away almost immediately. I am wondering about cc, and if you have checked all your products and med/supplements for gluten? shampoo, toothpaste, lotions, hairspray, etc. If your viatmins do not say gluten free on the bottle, call to...

Two things: Your B12 level is technically normal, but I had the buzzing at 570. Try some sublingual B12, 2000 mcg per day, taken at bedtime. Also, the twitching can come from iron deficiency. Have you had your ferritin checked? I've been on b12 and iron for 3 months, and it's gotten much better. The tingling is almost gone (and it was from head to...

ARCHIVED Gluten Digest Pills? A Cure Or Not Even Close?
Wolicki replied to Harley0000's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That means that it would not be a good idea to try it. A pill to help you digest gluten cannot prevent the autoimmune reaction and intestinal damage. -
ARCHIVED Thinks Its Safe?
Wolicki replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jason, Glad to hear you are feeling better about food! It really turns into mind over matter and attitude is everything, and all those things that when you hear them , you want to punch the lights out of the person who utters it, but it always ends up being true Glad your spirits are looking up! ARCHIVED Will I Hurt My Baby If I Cheat?
Wolicki replied to darkhorse's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Dont do it, its not worth it. BUT, here's an idea for your cheese craving: I have recently discovered raw foods. We have several Raw/vegan restaurants nearby, and vegan nut cheese is really good! I've had macadamia, cashew, pine nut and almond cheese. You just soak the nuts in water for 8-10 hours, the blitz it in a food processor or vitamix with a bit... -

ARCHIVED Low Cbc Levels
Wolicki replied to SLB5757's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Iron deficiency is certainly an issue for Celiacs. a more important indicator of anemia is iron stores and ferritin levels. If those are low, then it's probably anemia. -
ARCHIVED Iron
Wolicki replied to twe0708's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've taken every kind of prescription and non iron, and all of them wreck my stomach. I gave up and will be getting an iron infusion next week. -

ARCHIVED Possibly Celiac/gluten Intolerance?
Wolicki replied to BeSeeingYou's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! There would be absolutely no harm in trying the diet. Most experience at least some relief immediately. Caution, if you want to be tested, you have to be consuming gluten, so get tested first if you want an "official" diagnosis. -
It's possible, but more likely a secondary food intolerance. You may want to keep a food diary and elimination diet. Also take a good probiotic and enzyme, gluten free of course. It takes some detective work to figure out sometimes. Hang in there!

Stop the Beano, for sure. It is not gluten-free. Get a good broad enzyme with bromelain, lipase, pancreatic, lactase and gluta something. just make sure it is gluten-free -
ARCHIVED A Desperate Cry For Help
Wolicki replied to nicolenieto89's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Nicole, The first thing to do would be to get a simple blood test, and ask for the following: IGA IGG TTG If the blood tests are positive (beware frequent false negatives), then you can start a gluten free diet. It is the only treatment for Celiac, gluten intolerance, but it works if that is your problem! -
ARCHIVED I Just Tasted Udi's Bread!
Wolicki replied to Imanistj's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I successfully got Mother's Market in Huntington Beach to carry Udi's. I had to nag every time I went in, but they have the whole Udi's line now and it is flying off the shelves. Even better, it's only $4.69 per loaf! (who would have thought I would be excited to pay "only" $4.69?) Someone posted that Udi's is making tortillas Anyone have confirmation... -
ARCHIVED New & Struggling.... Celiac?
Wolicki replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symptoms could be Celiac. At this point, you have nothing to lose by trying the gluten-free diet to see if it helps. Give it a strict try for 3 months. If it improves your symptoms, then you have your answer. I hope you feel better soon! -

ARCHIVED B12 Now High Normal
Wolicki posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I started having neuropathy a few months ago. At that time, all my labs were normal except for low normal B12, low Ferritin and hypothryoid. I've been on B12 shots, sublingual b12, Ferrex and Levoxyl. Now, my B12 is high normal, still working on the iron, and Thyroid is normal. The neuropathy has not gone away yet. Does this mean I need to gret used...
