ARCHIVED Colonoscopy Prep
Wolicki replied to jasonD2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've had 3 colonoscopies. My doc had me drink the big jug, then do 2 bottles of magnesium citrate before bed. be prepared to not get any sleep, because you have to go to the bathroom all night. A word to the wise- lay down some towels on your bed before you go to sleep so you don't have to change your sheets in the middle of the night -

ARCHIVED Feeling A Bit Frustrated
Wolicki replied to rllycute's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You're a good sister Unfortunately, gluten free replacement foods are very expensive. The good news is there are LOTS of naturally gluten free foods. It is best to stick with whole, natural foods while she is healing anyway. Lean proteins, fruits and vegetables are the best way to go. Rice, quinoa are both gluten free naturally and are very inexpensive... -
ARCHIVED How Big Is Your Kid?
Wolicki replied to SilverSlipper's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am 6 ft tall, and my ex husband is 6'5". I knew we would have big kids. My 12 year old is 5'8" and 92 pounds. String bean! My 9 yr old was always taller than his brother was at the same age until about a year ago and he just stopped growing. He was diagnosed Celiac in October, 2009 and he is growing again. I think he's grown 2 inches since Oct. He... -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What To Do
Wolicki replied to frustratedandtired's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, here's something to think about. There are SO many doctors who have no clue about Celiac. Many of us have gone from doctor to doctor, and suffered for years because no one knew. I was sent to a GI after 10 yrs of suffering and having a positive blood test, only to be told I don't have it because no D. You can continue to go from doctor to doctor... -
ARCHIVED Celiac? Lupus? Something Else?
Wolicki replied to uma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was symptomatic, but I wanted to answer your post. I had terrible joint pain, tissue pain and a whole lot more for over 10 years. I was diagnosed with LUPUS 10 years ago because of blood work. I took many drugs for Lupus, including methotrexate, plaquenil and prednisone, and I was still sick. Fast forward to last June and I had positive blood work... -

I used to scratch until I bled- seriously, I had bruises shaped like scratches. It was so bad, especially on my thighs and torso. It's mostly gone away since going gluten free, but it took a couple of months. My doc says its normal with Celiac. He suggested coating myself with Eucerin Calming Cream while still wet after showering, then drying off. It...

Wolicki replied to fallout1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Jordin, Welcome to the forum. Well, you are having overt symptoms- the big D You are Celiac and must do a strict gluten free diet. There are some terrible things related to untreated Celiac, like bowel cancer and other really bad things that can be prevented with a gluten free diet. Be safe and be smart and you will live long and prosper Janie -

ARCHIVED I Need Help!
Wolicki replied to glutenfreelab's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sarah My doctor said the gluten challenge is barbaric and doesn't believe in it. I absolutely could not and would not do it, I was too sick on gluten. Many of the related disorders lessen or even disappear with a strict diet. I hope you feel better soon! Janie -

ARCHIVED I Need Help!
Wolicki replied to glutenfreelab's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sarah You weren't back on gluten long enough for it to show up. Here's the deal. You may have Celiac, and you may have gluten intolerance. Intolerance will never show up on a blood test or biopsy. Do you need an official diagnosis in order to stay gluten free? IMHO, positive dietary response is a diagnosis. The fix for Celiac and intolerance is... -
ARCHIVED Are They The Same?
Wolicki replied to alexa1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
THe symptoms can be exactly the same. Some will never test positive for Celiac and have all the same terrible problems that gluten can cause. You obviously have one or the other, based on positive dietary response. Keep up the good work! -
If you're not having any symptoms, there are way more important things you can stress about if you really want to! some people have kidney stones forever. It only hurts if they move. Dont' worry about it!

TAmmy testing for Celiac is not precise. There are many false negatives. You could also have non Celiac gluten intolerance. Same thing though, the cure is a life long gluten free diet. If it works for you, go with it. Doctors will catch up some day. janie

I don't know about that. Mine were all very small, like sand when they came out naturally.

Well, I've had about ten of them, 5 different times. It sucks. I've had lithotripsy, let them pass on their own and the thing where they go in and grab them (I can't rememver what it's called). I think it's best to let them pass on their own, because the other two ways hurt for a long time. Passing a stone really sucks. It is worse than labor (I've...

Unfortunately, yes I get all weird for about a week after CC from a GI standpoint, then fatigue for longer. It's best to stick with whole, unprocessed foods after an episode. I've also had it come in waves- better for a day, worse for a day. I also have had old secondary intolerances come back after a glutening- especially dairy and nightshades.

ARCHIVED Thanks....
Wolicki replied to dulcelopez's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Why don't you try a 100% strict gluten and dairy free diet for him to see how he does? If he has a gluten issue, either Celiac or gluten intolerance, most will have problems with dairy until the intestines heal. Here are some things you can try to feed him: gluten free rice cereal pureed or soft fresh fruits and vegetables coconut or rice milk pureed... -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Symptoms And Test Results, Very Confused
Wolicki replied to Teed073193's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I believe that the Gliadin antibody being positive is a positive for Celiac. I know of very few Celiacs who have all the 4 indicators positive. I think you should start the gluten free diet, and probably eliminate all the foods that currently bother you in addition to gluten, then after at least 6 months, then challenge those other foods. I betcha you...
