  1. Nope, I don't eat gluten on purpose. I had a gluten induced TIA and get neurological symptoms when glutened on accident, so just the thought of being paralyzed or dying is plenty to keep my G.F. diet on course.
  2. Thank you for the condolences. This one is especially hard, as it was my MIL who passed away. DH and his family were very close and I grew very close to her over the years of our marriage as well. She had been fighting cancer for years.
  3. I normally cook a lot but we just had a death in the family and of course, I cannot eat any of the meals that people send over. So here's what I'm doing: --Lots of Amy's frozen dinners --Freshly made carrot juice --Salads --Smoothies --Hard boiled eggs --Kind bars --Nut butter/soy cream cheese with apple slices --Beyond Meat chicken free strips...
  4. Yes, very good explaination cyclinglady. My cat is on grain free food and my two goldfish would be too, if I could find any standard goldfish food that was gluten free. I've had a TIA in the past (ministroke) due to gluten and more recently had a relapse of some neuro symptoms (dehabilitating headaches and trouble talking correctly) after my kids...
  5. Yes, for a celiac (or any other person with a medical issue around gluten, such as gluten ataxia or non-celiac gluten sensitivity), even crumbs can make you sick. For me, it's nearly impossible to keep my kids from contaminating me, so it's easier to keep a gluten free house for all and let them get their gluten elsewhere. If you have more questions...
  6. I had been gluten free for several months prior to the gluten challenge and I was gluten light for at least a year prior to that. My daughter had been mostly off gluten with some cross contamination and occasional non-compliance since she was 3 years old and she recently did her gluten challenge at 8 years old. I had her stay on gluten for a full 3 months...
  7. I've gone back to a gluten free kitchen now that my daughter's gluten challenge is done and boy, is it ever a stress reliever! Here's some pointers on cooking gluten free for a whole family, when only one person needs to be gluten free. I'm the only G.F. person in my house at present. First of all, focus on basics. Nuts, fruits, veggies, eggs, dried...
  8. Yes, it's tough with kids. My 2 year old is always trying to grab at my face and mouth and also we're a fairly affectionate family, so there was the issue of kissing sweet little gluteny faces. LOL! So glad to be done with my daughter's gluten challenge!
  9. I did a gluten challenge and wound up in the ER with neurological complications (after experiencing severe daily headaches) 10 days into it. I do want to stress that my situation is relatively rare though. Most people will not experience those complications and doing a challenge can be beneficial for many people. I put my daughter on a gluten challenge and...
  10. I totally understand not wanting gluten in the house! It's such a relief to be going back to a gluten free house after my kid's gluten challenge was done. I got glutened multiple times and my stress level skyrocketed. My kids just don't understand the concept of not touching my gluten free food after they've touched gluten.
  11. I tried the crab cakes and we liked them.
  12. I'd be interested to find where they're sourcing them from. It's probably not much of an issue for me, though, because I get certified gluten-free oats in bulk for $1.63 per pound anyway.
  13. I understand the hesitation about putting him on gluten, but it really will give you the best chance for an accurate diagnosis for him. Since a very strict lifelong diet is needed for celiac patients, it's important to be sure of the diagnosis. Especially for children, it is so helpful to have a diagnosis. I hope that you find answers soon!
  14. Here's a blog post for a homemade gluten free instant noodle soup. It uses miso. http://glutenfreeonashoestring.com/gluten-free-instant-noodle-cups/ Our lunch menu today was steamed brussel sprouts, white basmati rice, and vegan crab cakes. For dessert, the kids had fruit and cottage cheese and I had fruit and soy yogurt.
  15. TJ's has certified gluten free oats?
  16. I saw the doctor today and looked over the test results. The negatives were very clear negatives. So thankful! For example, a 20 on the Ttg is considered positive and she scored a 6. I was hoping for clear answers and these were very clear. The doctor said that the variations on the CBC were normal and could be caused by mild dehydration. My daughter...
  17. If you're uninsured or don't have a regular doctor who can order tests for you, you can order from a private lab and self-pay. I can think of one member here off the top of my head who did this. Open Original Shared Link
  18. I have heard great things about this recipe. I haven't tried it yet, though. Open Original Shared Link
  19. My #1 advice is not to go overboard on the gluten. Also, be cautious, if you're not used to currently eating certain foods regularly (like doughnuts) it might be best to reserve them for a special treat once a week or less. You don't want to send your body into shock by overloading on gluten or radically changing your current diet routine too much. Make sure...
  20. You could always make your own toothpaste. There's lots of recipes for them on the internet.
  21. What about her personal care products? Is her soap, shampoo, and lip balm gluten free? Do you have any pets that she feeds? If so, are the pets on grain free food? If it's regular pet food, does she wash her hands well after feeding them?
  22. I used the bread mix with the yeast packet in it and sugar already in it. If you use a flour mix, keep in mind that you will have to provide the yeast and sugar.
  23. If you enjoy stir fry, San-J has a number of wonderful certified gluten free stir fry sauces and soy sauces. I know that the soy sauce I have right now says non-gmo on it. It's the lower sodium type. Stir fry is a easy go to meal in our house.
  24. Well, if your doctors are sure it's celiac, probably a challenge is not needed. I know exactly where you're coming from. I'm not big on doctors and I have had all of my babies at home to avoid the hospital too--but I'm the same for my kids, I want an exact answer of what's going on.
