  1. My problems didn't start to get better until I gave up on dairy, I winced when you said he was taking milkshakes. Dairy causes me to be foggy-minded, "bubbly" intestines, and arthritis-type pains, etc. You could try giving up dairy for a few days and drinking gluten-free teas which are very easy on an irritated digestive system. I hope you find answers...
  2. Ivert, I was diagnosed at age 62. I had problems with allergies all my life, mostly environmental. I had a thyroidectomy in the year 2000 and almost died as a result of the anesthesia, spent 4 post-op days in Intensive Care. After that I developed more severe allergies, especially in my eyes, my allergist "gave up on me, said he wasn't able to help me...
  3. Gillian, Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been eating Heinz Organic Ketchup. I thought all Heinz Ketchcups were gluten-free. No wonder I was feeling so bad. If you hadn't shared that info with us then I may have been using it for years not knowing it. I am going over all my foods and double checking them. I can never thank you enough!
  4. I tried both Lexapro and Prozac and I could not stay awake. I kept falling asleep all day. I do have a script for Amitryptiline also known as Elavil and I sometimes take it for about a week at a time for IBS symptoms which I do get occaisonally like when I tried to do dairy again and got bad pain on my right side. Just remember you cannot stop taking...
  5. I just spoke to a spokesperson at Tropicana. Essentials Light and Healthy is gluten-free if the code number at the top of the carton starts with the number 48. This ensures that it is made in a gluten-free facility. It contains 1/2 less sugars and calories plus calcium and is delicious... This made my day.
  6. Thanks Kaiti, Yes, my Dr. knows a lot about celiac disease, he is a professor at the University of Pittsburgh. He prides himself on having diagnosed 200 celiacs in the past 2 years. That's why I don't understand why he won't give me an official diagnosis. I will always be grateful to him for testing me after being shuffled around from different doctors...
  7. Citracel fiber pills work for me. The tablets are gluten-free and usually "work" in a few hours. Must drink a full glass of water, very important. They were recommended by GI Dr.
  8. I used to have this problem after eating rice. It gradually went away.
  9. Just want to clarify. I don't have an official diagnosis of Celiac, my doctor won't give it to me because I don't have the "gene" for it. He also thinks that I don't have lactose/casein intolerance. He refused to do the York test said he doesn't believe in them. I am in the process of doing the test myself. At my last visit he told me to eat gluten...
  10. Gina, My GI doc encouraged me to have both "scopes", a colonoscopy and an endoscopy and I'm glad that he did. My colonoscopy was negative except for hemorrhoids and a small benign polyp. However, the Endo revealed Barrett's ring around the esophagus, it is caused by the stomach acid splashing up into the esophagus ( I also have a weak sphincter muscle...
  11. Mel, I too know what you are talking about. I spent 3 months, the summer of 2003, curled up in a fetal position in bed. my husband was remodeling our old/new home and I wanted to help him, but I felt too sick. He told me later that he thought I had cancer. My biopsy in the fall was neg., no damage to villi, but I know in my heart that I have Celiac...
  12. I have to disagree about this being a rich man's disease if you can keep it simple and not buy a lot of the gluten free stuff you can manage. the only thing I find expensive are the gluten-free spaghetti and cereal but the rest is mostly meat, vegetables, and fruit. Once in a while a treat. I use mostly rice cakes instead of bread and lots of salads...
  13. BamBam, You didn't say what kind of Clinic you work in so this is just a thought. How close to the Doctors are you? Have you ever dicussed how you feel? Maybe they would be open to test these patients, are they aware of Celiacs? Perhaps brochures for them would help. As a nurse for many years I know some doctors would appreciate this info, mine...
  14. Mela, I have also suffered all my life with allergies and migraines. I used to have to take shots every week. Since going gluten free I no longer need the shots. I do occaisonally get migraines, two since going gluten-free. One occurred after being contaminated and another recently when I was under a lot of stress, my mother was extremely ill and...
  15. Just a note about Doctors. I gave my MD a copy of the medications not containing gluten and he thanked me profusely, asked where I found it, of course I told him about this site. My Gastro doctor didn't know if Nexium was safe (it is) and he has discovered over 200 celiacs in the past 2 years. I also had to instruct my dentist on gluten-free meds...
  16. Mudders, I've had a lot of your symptoms and more. I had to have my teeth capped in high school, severe allergies, burning, itching eyes, aches and pains, GI symptoms, heartburn, constipation, thyroid disease, I could go on and on. I too had one positive blood test, negative biopsy, negative on gene test. I know I have gluten sensitivity but GI thinks...
  17. You could have another infection not sensitive to Cipro. The Dr. would need to do a complete Urinalysis followed by a Culture and Sensitivity if warranted. Diuretics are very powerful drugs and shouldn't be used casually, they are prescribed for specific conditions. Hope this helps.
  18. Since this came on suddenly my first thought, as a nurse, would be a urinary tract infection. Do you have any symptoms like nausea or back pain? Sometimes after having children women will "lose control" and suffer from stress incontinence and the exercises previously mentioned will help.
  19. My husband does the baking in our home. Whenever he rolls out the pastry he puts it between waxed paper, then lays it in the pan by peeling the pastry from the paper.
  20. I did a search on this last night on Google and there is a wealth of information on there. Has anyone ever been tested for this? Do GI doctors believe this theory or is it just that, a theory? It would be the answer to a lot of my questions since I don't technically have Celiacs. I want to study more of this but I would like to get opinions as well...
  21. I use Cover Girl, Garnier Fructis, Lubriderm, all gluten-free last time I checked, I've never had a problem.
  22. If your traveling the Pa turnpike and stop at Breezewood, try the Denny's restaurant. They have been very accomadating to me in the past. They have a list (behind the counter) of all the allergens and which foods you can eat. I always have scrambled eggs, hash browns and bacon. Hubby eats most of my bacon! Just remind them to clean the grill, use...

  24. I had one positive (IGA) and genes were negative for celiac. My Dr wanted me to go back on gluten, to prove a point, and I tried but I get too sick. Same thing with dairy. My intestines weren't damaged and biopsy was NEG but the neurological symptoms were worse than the GI and I am not going through that again, not for him, not for anyone.
  25. I had a pain in my right side for a year after going gluten-free. My GI doc thought it was gallbladder pain but all of the scans, ultrasounds, etc came back showing a normally functioning gallbladder, they even suspected a spasm in the common duct, but an upper GI ruled out that, but did reveal severe reflux which was confirmed with the endoscopy...
