ARCHIVED At My Wit's End...and No End In Sight!
judy05 replied to Sonja's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sonja, sorry you are having so many problems. I also have had many of your symptoms ( the peeling of the skin around the cuticles caught my eye (I never did figure that one out, but they cleared up after going gluten-free). I had one positive test (IGA 75). My doc insists that I don't have Celiac because I didn't have the gene, but I beg to differ with him... -
You might want to checkout shampoos, I had some hair loss and switched to gluten-free Garnier Fructis, Pantene is also gluten-free. I was using Nexxus products and always wondered why my scalp was itchy, I looked at the ingredients and they contain wheat. My disease was triggered by thyroid disease, I had 1/2 of thyroid removed and symptoms became worse...

I've taken many anti-depressants, never got nausea. My biggest problem was staying awake during the day. I am on Zoloft and feeling better, I had to change the times, I now take it at night. I'm glad you are taking it, I hope you soon feel better. Sometimes the symptoms, if you have any, will go away after a few days, got to give it a chance

ARCHIVED Safe Foods...
judy05 replied to tama-chan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I go to a local Chinese restaurant and they have been able to accomadate me. I usually order the chicken and shrimp with rice, just steamed, no sauce. I love the pork fried rice, but sometimes it makes me queasy, sometimes not. I have checked their brand of soy sauce and it does not appear to have wheat but I am unsure about other dishes. I am also able to... -

ARCHIVED Wondering If I Might Be Glutin Intolerant....
judy05 replied to TheCatWhisperer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had diarrhea when I got glutened, I think it took a week or two after I knew what the culprit was. My doc put me on fiber pills, Citrucel, he said they work on diarrhea and/or constipation. -
Hi, I just wanted to throw in a thought. My doctor explained to me that I wasn't secreting enough Serotonin, so he prescribed Zoloft for me and in only 2 days I feel better than I have in years. He said it takes at least 3 weeks to really "kick in". My husband could see the difference right away. I am less tired and irritable and have started to sleep...

ARCHIVED Do Neuralogical Symptoms Go Away?
judy05 replied to frenchiemama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you tried going dairy or even casein free? It took me a few months to realize that dairy and sometimes soy were causing a lot of problems. I did a York test and found that I am intolerant of corn, egg whites, cow's milk, yeast, and of course wheat. Maybe you have other intolerances along with gluten. Oddly my test did not show intolerances to barley... -
ARCHIVED Number Of People On The Board
judy05 replied to jaimek's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Hi, I post once in a while whenever I think I can help someone (maybe I had the same problem). Although I don't post a lot I still read the forums that I think apply to me. I have really learned a lot, you guys are great! I just want to add that I think a forum for newbies would be great, you moderators are great about giving the basic info but it wouldn... -
Berneses, Have you had your cholesterol checked? When my daughter was younger (30's) she had them and got tested and found her cholesterol was elevated, she changed her diet and her numbers dropped.

ARCHIVED I Feel Horrible After Eating Gf Bread
judy05 replied to steve-o's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Steve-o I just got my test results back from York labs. I have an intolerance to yeast which really shouldn't have been a surprise to me because I always had a reaction to mold on my allergy tests. So far I have been successful in avoiding it. I know there are yeast free, gluten free breads but I haven't tried them. Good luck to you! -
Once again I am glad to be reading this message board. I have costalchondritis too, I naver knew it was related to celiac's (which according to my Dr I don't have, but it seems like I have every symptom of it!). I also have the pain on my right side, sometimes on the left which Dr attributes to the IBS (he will confirm that I have this which doesn't surprise...

ARCHIVED Celiac And Dental Problems?
judy05 replied to terryjean's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, I've had a problem with my teeth since childhood. My teeth were very soft, enamel was missing and I have had many cavities, also several caps and last year one tooth "crumbled". I also have problems with getting gluten in the dentist office and usually develop "brain fog" before I get out of the chair. The dentist said he had other celiac patients... -
ARCHIVED New Here
judy05 replied to rhondaslusher1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had an elevated IgA (75) and IgG slightly elevated (can't remember number). At first the Dr said I had Celiac Sprue and go on gluten-free diet. He then did an Endo and the biopsy came back neg, villi were not flattened, and my gene test came back Neg. He advised me that I could not be Celiac ( no damage and no gene) so he said try to reintroduce wheat... -
I don't know about anyone else but I find this board better than any therapy could ever be. I always find people who have been through what I have been through or worse . It's good to hear how they handled it and the support here is really fantastic, could a therapist really be as good as this board? Just think how much money you will save!

ARCHIVED Dizzy With Nausea
judy05 replied to printmaker81's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, I also had the problem with dizziness, I would feel like I was going to black out behind the wheel and I had to turn the wheel over to my husband. I also have acid reflux, a lot of people with this disease have it. It also causes anxiety, don't know why, but it seems to be very common and does get better after app 6mos of gluten-free diet.Hope you... -
ARCHIVED The Dreaded Diarrhea/bowels Topic
judy05 replied to BamBam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's what I was going to say. I never go anywhere without carrying my Immodium, Pepto for upset stomach, NuLev tabs for spasms, and various snacks and fluids in case I am "stranded" somewhere( hardly likely ) but this is my way of containing my anxiety. -
ARCHIVED Testing For Cd
judy05 replied to billy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Most GI Docs recommend an Endoscopy and Colonoscopy as a routine workup on patients who are being seen for any digestive problems. First of all it is a base line to compare to like your first mammogram, first EKG, etc. Another reason for doing Colonoscopy on everyone is because it is a good screening tool for Cancer, many types of Cancers have been prevented... -
ARCHIVED Help Need Advice!
judy05 replied to celiacboy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Please help, I am confused, as I know that gluten can damage him worse, but how do I know if he truly is celiac? I don't know if you have done this already but I would do a gene test or at least have him tested through Enterolab, thats the only way you will know for sure. Is he off dairy? That can cause a lot of the symptoms you describe. He could have... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
judy05 replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been using cheddar cheese for over 6 months. It doesn't seem to bother me but other cheeses give me stomach pain. I guess I will follow the book for now. This is all new for me. I am intolerant of egg whites, corn, and yeast. I also have to watch my carbs because of Diabetes, controlled by diet and exercise. -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet?
judy05 replied to PreOptMegs's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I just got the book this week and I also ordered the cookbook and almond flour. The cookbook has a lot of nice recipes but call for dry curd cottage cheese and homemade yogurt. At the present time I cannot do dairy(except for cheddar cheese). Has anyone tried substituting these ingredients or modifying the diet? Any help would be appreciated. If anyone is... -
If your stools are black and tarry, look like coffee grounds with a really bad smell you must see a doctor right away, you could have a bleeding ulcer or something else. If it is bight blood which occurs after a hard bowel movement then it could be hemmorrhoids. If by any chance you are on a blood thinner or aspirin regime you must contact your physician...

ARCHIVED Self-diagnosis
judy05 replied to Saw's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Saw, Is having Celiac a more serious condition than gluten sensitivity? Here again we have to say it all depends. It seems that people who are gluten intolerant get more neurological problems as well as GI problems, I know that because it happened that way with me. It also depends on how long it took to be diagnosed, some of us were sick many years before...
