  1. Hi Ravenwoodglass, I was thinking about what you said about the villi producing the enzyme that we need to digest dairy. Sorry, I know I'm changing the subject a little bit. I just wanted to get some else's perspective on this. I'm only two months gluten free & I've been eating very little dairy. I even cut it out totally for about two weeks...
  2. Has anyone had a reaction to the Almond Dream? I've been drinking it for the last three day & I've noticed each day I've been getting more & more bloated. Today I had trouble eating & felt sooo full all day. And I couldn't even eat my dinner tonight. I've been eating it with my rice in the morning. I know this is the only thing I've been eating...
  3. Wow! I didn't realize my thinning hair was probably due to the celiac disease. I noticed it about eight years ago & then I was diagnosed with Hasimoto disease. Once I got on the synthyroid it seemed my hair was somewhat back to normal, but then I noticed more hair loss in the last maybe six months & wondered why. I've only been on the gluten...
  4. Totally agree! My endo follows this new giudeline also.
  5. Good to know -Thanks! I know the last time I got my iron checked they told me I was slightly low even though I've been taking 2 iron pills a day. Now I'm wondering if I might need more iron? I'll talk to my doctor about that too. I ask a lot of questions when I go to the doctors - I think I drive them all crazy!
  6. Yes Mark is very enthusiastic & positive! It's hard for me to feel sorry for myself while talking to him. Do you know of a good GI doctor in Pittsburgh? I have a Gi doc already, but it seems like he's not that knowledgeable about celiac disease. Do you have any recommendations?
  7. I've had the bloating at times too. And a "full feeling." It was really bad when I was eating gluten. Now being gluten free for seven weeks it's better, but it seems like every time I eat an apple I get bloated again. So I'm thinking maybe i have a little intolerance with apples. So, for now they're off my menu. The walking 30 mins a day helps me a lot...
  8. Thanks for the tips! I think you're right, I am probably deficient in a lot of vitamins. I will ask my doctor to check all the nutrient levels when i see her next Friday. I'm sure she might not of even thought of that since it was my dietitian (who has celiac himself) that told me to get the bone scan done in the first place. Seems like the doctors really...
  9. Yes, I do take vitamin C 500 mg with my Iron. And I've been vitamin D deficient for about two years now & I've been taking 2,000 vitamin D ever since. I'm wondering if I have other defiances. Should I ask my doctor to do a complete work up? I'm just really curious what else I'm deficient in & what my doctor is going tell me next week. More bad...
  10. Hi everyone, I'm a little stressed out. I'm not feeling 100% but I really wanted to do something nice for my husband's 50 Birthady. I'm giving my first party since going gluten free. I was undecided about having all gluten free food or not. I do have a gluten free kitchen & was planning on keeping it that way, but I'm not sure if it would be reasonable...
  11. Yes! HI there! I live in Pittsburgh, too. I have an excellent dietitian. He has celiac disease also & sooo helpful! Mark Dinga 412-647-7063 I hope this helps!
  12. Thanks for your comments & tips! I have been taking my iron along with my calcium for years. Of course I'm anemic too. And I take two iron pills a day. I didn't know that about separating them. I'll start doing that today. And I'm sure your right about having celiac for a long time. I've probably had it for years, too -maybe all my life, but who...
  13. Hi all, I just got my bone scan results back today. I scored - 2.1 (Thinning Bones), so my doctor wants to see me. I'm 38 years old & I was diagnosed with celiac 7 weeks ago & gluten free. Does anyone know what they do for "Thinning Bones? I have to say I'm really upset. It's just more bad news. I've been taking calcium 500 Mg for the...
  14. Thanks so much for letting us know. I was wondering about this also, since Rice Dream is processed with barley enzymes. I'm sure I would have a reaction. My stomach is still so sensitive. I've been on a gluten free diet for seven weeks and it's slow progress. I've now, given up dairy & was looking about different milk options. I'll have to try the Hemp...
  15. Thanks everyone for your input! I was being to think I was the only one with reflux form dairy. It's been three days of being dairy free for me & boy, is it hard! I still have the reflux though... Does it usually take a long time for the acid reflux to go away? I know my doctor said to go dairy free for a week & see f it helps. Or should I try...
  16. Hi everyone, I've been having problems with acid reflux since July & I've been gluten free for five weeks. I'm taking Prevacid, which I don't think it's helping, & I'm still having acid reflux & I suspect it's from dairy. I seen my GI doc today & he didn't think it was possible, so I wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I also...
  17. Hi Mamaw, I'm very intested interested in your group. I live in very near to Pittsburgh. Could you send me some information? I've been diagnosed with celiac just five weeks ago & I'd love to meet other people who know a lot about this disease. It would be so nice to have someone to talk to that understand. Thanks!
  18. Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone else has this "pins & needles feeling" in their stomach? I'm on week five of being gluten free, so I thought maybe I'm still getting glutened somewhere. Not sure? Seems like when I eat anything spicy I get this feeling. It does seem a little better than it was. Just wondering... Thanks!
  19. Still on my quest to find good gluten free cat food. Seems like there's a lot of dry bagged food that is gluten free, but the canned ,wet cats seem harder to find. I did try a few, but my Chloe doesn't want anything to do with it...I even tried mixing it in with her old gluten food. So now she has decided to just eat the dry food instead & totally avoids...
  20. I'm pretty sure it's safe. I did see some posts here about it. I've been using the same brand. And I also use dawn liquid. Hang in there. I know it's hard. I've been on the diet for five weeks now & I still have trouble eating some things. I get the "pins & needles" feeling in my stomach if I eat anything with spices in it & I can't drink milk...
  21. Hi all, I'm not sure if this helps or not, but I was getting yeast infections back to back about four years ago. I finally figured out it was my bubble bath. I can't do anything scented either. I use fragrance free laundry detergent too. Since I stopped using the bubble bath I haven't had any more problems. Also, I remember my GYN doc talking to me...
  22. Hi everyone, I too, have been losing a lot of hair lately. Not in patches, but it's just thinner than it used to be & I see it everywhere. I have been using Gluten-Free Savonnerie shampoo & conditioner in the last month since I went gluten free. Since then I've been breaking out with acne all around my hairline & forehead. I mean real bad...
  23. I'm not a kid, well, maybe a big kid... I do take Prevacid along with the gluten free diet. I had really bad acid reflux that wasn't controlled by Prilosec so they did the upper endoscopy. I was then diagnosed with the Celiac just last month. The doctor started me on the Prevacid two weeks ago. It seems I have a lot of damage to my esophagus & stomach...
  24. I just tried the new Fancy Feast Appetizers on the cats tonight. Bella ate a little, but Chloe didn't eat any of it. I'll have to go to the store tomorrow & try something different. I'll look for the grain free Felidae, too. Thanks Raven's Mum! I didn't know they made clumping litter that you could flush! That's good to know. And I'll check out...
  25. Hi all! Great post! I'm looking for a good Celiac doctor in Pittsburgh, PA. Anyone know of one? I do have one already, but I'm not sure if I'm crazy about him. He did find the celiac disease, but told me I might be able to "cheat" in a couple of years once I'm healed. I don't think he's that knowledgeable about celiac disease. Thanks!
