  1. Hey there, welcome! We were in your place a few months ago. The best thing you can do initially, in my opinion, is to stick to meat, fruits, vegetables, safe grains (rice, quinoa). Eat off that while you clean out and take stock of your fridge and pantry. Our pantry looked so bare when I did this but now it's overflowing. Once you get cleaned up, figure...
  2. Thanks for the correction. I remembered wrong. Where's my brain? Oh yeah, probably taken away by my 3 little ones!
  3. Many gluten-free foods contain soy too. After my oldest was positive, we all got tested (his younger brother, husband and me). His brother was the only one who came back positive. Of course I know about false negatives. I've had some food issues since being pregnant with my third (born this past June). My doctor did offer doing an endoscopy but I declined...
  4. Congratulations! Having a baby is such a blessed event. As far as food introduction, the AAP now officially says to wait until 6 months for any food. Last I knew 6-8 months was the "magic" window for introducing gluten. We threw that out at my house. Both my boys, diagnosed celiac, were introduced at that time. With our third (who's 7 months) we decided to...
  5. A friend sent this link to me. Easy to make gluten-free. Sure looks like a pretty birthday cake. Open Original Shared Link
  6. Hey, just wanted to follow-up from my previous post. My 2 year old's been gluten-free for 2 months and his rash is gone! I still see eczema bumps but the diaper area rash is no more. But the few times he's had gluten accidentally I can see it start to pop out again.
  7. Lisa, it could be cc. But it could be something else. My son had diarrhea before diagnosis. His too cleared up quickly but just over the weekend, there it was. And now he has a cold. So it's either a symptom leading into the cold or cc from a lunch party we had with friends on Friday. Point is, I guess, I'm not sure you'll really know. But if it keeps happening...
  8. Sorry to hear how frustrated you are! It does seem like everything changes overnight. I had to take out casein/soy initially because of my breastfed daughter but on challenging her, found out dairy bothered me too. After the initial withdrawals I actually started feeling the need to eat less, plus many of my wacky, out of control eating cravings were gone...
  9. Thanks Lisa. gluten-free is popular, isn't it? We've only been gluten-free for a few months and at the advice of the dietician we haven't looked at all the manufacturing processes, just the ingredients. Except for flours and things they eat regularly (like snacks, cereal). Those we buy from dedicated facilities and/or good manufacturing processes. My boys...
  10. I love this idea too, even before going gluten-free. This makes me sad I skipped out on Friday's Whole Foods sale of organic ground beef for $2.49 a pound. It was snowing, the roads slick and I really didn't want to take the three little ones out. WF is a good 30 minutes away in nice weather. Another sale, another day...
  11. You could do tacos. Make up the meat mixture ahead of time and just zap with shells in the fridge.
  12. Hmm, interesting. Their website still says they can't gurantee any of their products to be gluten-free because of possible cross-contamination.
  13. My baby girl reacts to dairy/soy too. Earth Balance carries a soy/dairy free margarine. I like it for what I use it for. I've also made a margarine with a mix of oils. Go Dairy Free by Alisa Fleming has some great recipes. You might find some right on her website: www.godairyfree.org. I really like this resource because most of the time she doesn't use...
  14. Hi there. Wanted to throw some thoughts out. Take them as you will. I'm assuming you've been eating the same as when you had your son. So if it was something in your diet, you would think that you would have noticed by now, since he's 9 months old. Now, if you've been eating something new that could be another story. Also, babies grow fast. They start...
  15. Yes, the biopsy procedure really isn't that bad. Harder on us (the parents) than the kids really. My son was four and it was done at Children's Hospital so he was totally under. It took less than 10 minutes for him to go under and for the doc to come out and tell us his initial results. The official biopsy results took another week and a half. I'm like...
  16. Welcome! If there's something positive to be said for kids on special diets, it's that they quickly adapt to it and also what great stuff there is out there now (products and info). Though I'll be the first to admit that some days I just want to throw in the towel... I hope that your littlest one outgrows his allergies. And hopefully his eczema clears...
  17. Totally agree with Shayesmom concerning testing, staying on gluten diet. Both my boys (2 and 4) didn't express abdominal pain. One started eating more - more gluten foods that is. He was always eating. The other was slowly not eating as much but he's 2 so I really didn't think too much of it. My 4 year old is tall for his age. Even his GI doc mentioned that...
  18. Second this! It's ultimately up to you but start with the testing. Both my boys had very positive blood tests and while not severely underweight, their growth had slowed way down (especially my two year old). But now we've been gluten-free for just over 2 months (the 2 year old just over a month) and already both have gained a few pounds and gotten a tad...
  19. Is it possible to redo the blood work you had done previously? The way you said it, made it seem like they checked vitamin/mineral levels? If so, that may be a possibility to see if the gluten-free diet is helping you absorb better. As far as time it takes to heal, I'm not sure in your case. Other, experienced members can chime in there. My boys have celiac...
  20. I hesitated responding to this but wanted to say why we decided to enroll our daughter in the study. For one, she will be genetically tested so we'll know if we ever have to worry about celiac disease developing. Two, regardless of her genes, she will be raised in a mostly gluten-free household. Both her older brothers are diagnosed (4 and 2 years old, both...
  21. Yes, this is the one we enrolled our daughter in (still waiting on genectic test results). I would have said previously but wasn't sure it was appropriate.
  22. Not to mention that the number of silent celiacs are apparently higher than those with symptoms. But they still are at risk for "complications" of celiac disease. Crazy to think about.
  23. Thanks! The rooms do have mini fridges and I do plan on doing breakfast, one meal, snacks. So it's just one meal a day. I did find that website but it's nice to have reviews/comments from those in the know.
  24. Sorry, once it's "popped up" it can't be popped out. Good news is that if you're eating healthy, your baby weight should melt off pretty easily.
  25. I'm planning ahead for a long weekend we'll be taking towards the end of winter. We'll be staying at the Great Wolf Lodge near Cincinnati. Anyone know of some good gluten-free restaurants nearby? That are also kid friendly (kids will be 3 and 5 and are the ones who have to eat gluten-free). We eat most any type of food. I found an Uno Chicago Grill within...
