ARCHIVED Can You Help Me With This Rash?
Frances03 replied to Frances03's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Actually I am wondering if this sounds like a celiac rash. I don't know what I would be eating that would have gluten regularly, but I am sure I could have been glutened at a restaurant. We don't go out often, and if I do it's only to places I don't usually have a problem with, like getting fries at five guys. But recently I went to two restaurants that... -
I have celiac disease and was diagnosed in 09 and have been gluten free since then. Occasionally I get this rash, but this time it is not going away. The places I have it are on both sides of my neck which is sort of one small cluster on each side, the inside/front of both arms above the elbow which are both in a straight line of one bump/blister each making...

ARCHIVED La Choy Soy Sauce
Frances03 replied to jmj0803's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
These kinds of posts annoy me so much!! "We just called La Choy and said it was not gluten free". Why do you do things like that to mislead others??? If you don't know what you're talking about, why post anything at all?? I just got off the phone with La Choy. I spoke to a woman about my La Choy All Purpose Soy Sauce. We have no idea what product you were... -

ARCHIVED Nestle Butterscotch Chips Got Me
Frances03 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I dont know why I thought they were gluten free, but just wanted to post that they aren't, in case someone else should need the info. I went and got some Hershey's butterscotch chips today, which ARE safe. But I had already made some peanut butter cookies with the Nestle brand and ate some. At least I figured it out before I ate the whole bag -
ARCHIVED Are Places Like Panera & Chipotle Safe?
Frances03 replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I personally love Chipotle. I've been in to MANY different ones all over, and they ALWAYS change their gloves and all the utensils in the entire place as soon as I mention that we have a "gluten allergy". We always get the bowl. The ONLY thing in the entire place with gluten is the flour tortillas and I can't imagine gluten "FLYING" around in there from... -

ARCHIVED Something That Really Annoys Me!
Frances03 replied to Frances03's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Okay I will try that. At least that gets me the last 24 hours worth, but the rest of the things I will have to hunt through on my own I guess. I still wish it would let me finish reading the "new content" until I'm finished! -
Sometimes, I cannot get here to read the posts for a few days. When I click on new content, it nicely brings up all the posts since my last visit. However, sometimes there are 6 or 7 pages and I dont have time to glance thru them all in one sitting. Here's where I get annoyed! After a certain amount of time, say 1 hour, it no longer shows me the new content...

ARCHIVED Just Called Post
Frances03 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah I know they aren't them most healthy choice out there! But hey, I'm pregnant, and one craving I get is for those old childhood cereals!!!!!!!! Well I just called them and was told the cocoa pebbles, fruity pebbles and a NEW one called cupcake pebbles that supposedly tastes like cake and ice cream, are all without gluten and made on dedicated lines... -
ARCHIVED I Hope I'm Doing The Right Thing!
Frances03 replied to VitaminDGirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would recommend rescheduling the endoscopy. Being gluten free is not easy. It's also not easy explaining to people WHY you are gluten free, especially if you dont have a formal diagnosis. It might all sound rosy and wonderful right now, but wait a few months until you are hungry and someone offers you food and tells you it's gluten free but you're not... -
ARCHIVED Industry Warned Over Nutritional Content
Frances03 replied to kenlove's topic in Publications & Publicity
Wow. I appreciated the original article's intent to point out the TRUTHFUL lacking nutritional quality in mainstream gluten-free products. I dont see any problem with that at all. But the poster following that has made many sweeping generalizations and assumptions that are just baseless opinions and paranoia. I'm sorry I wasted my time reading any further... -
Okay these are really REALLY good. I only post recipes we LOVE. Hope someone else likes it too. 1 1/2 cups gluten-free cookie crumbs (I used those new Smorables but at $5 a box and needing the entire box, I'll use something else next time. However, I must say they did taste almost just like the graham cracker crust I was craving!) 3 Tbsp sugar 1/...

Yes the crust held together perfectly for the quiche! It stood up just like a regular crust and it was even somewhat flaky! I think the flax helped with that, along with making it look prettier. Let's see, I always make 2 quiches as I have a large family. Here's the recipe. 8 eggs 1 3/4 cups milk 1 cup shredded swiss cheese 1 cup shredded monterey...

ARCHIVED Making Superfine Brown Rice Flour?
Frances03 replied to BlueTaelon's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use my vitamix to grind up brown rice, white rice, millet, etc. Not sure if it would qualify as superfine, since I'm not really sure what that means, but it sure makes it in to flour and I use it a lot. I'm going to get some buckwheat and try grinding that next, can't wait! -
ARCHIVED Corn Tortillas?
Frances03 replied to G-freegal12's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
One thing my kids LOVE are "pizza tortillas". They want them every day but I dont give in that often, LOL. Take 2 corn tortillas. Spread one with marinara or pizza sauce and place on dry skillet. Top with about 6 pieces of pepperoni, and a handful of shredded cheese. (my boys love the cheddar blend from costco). Top with another dry corn tortilla. Heat... -
This is SOOOOOOOOO easy!!! And it's pretty!! and it tastes GREAT to me!! My whole family approved too!! (I've been gluten-free for almost a year, so if you just went gluten-free, don't comment! Things taste different if you're not used to it!) 1 1/4 cup white rice flour 1/4 cup flax meal 1/2 cup shortening 5 Tbsp cold water Mix flours. Cut in...

ARCHIVED Pregnancy With Celiac Disease Treated
Frances03 replied to Frances03's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I believe my high risk status is a result of my seizure disorder, my possible lupus, my previous miscarriages, and my age being 39 now. But, this pregnancy is so far going so great I can hardly believe it. I am 22 weeks today, and we found out it is is GIRL. Not sure what to do with a girl when I have 3 boys, but I'm just super thankful she looks healthy... -
ARCHIVED Kraft, Conagra, Unilever
Frances03 replied to nikaku's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've called Knorr within the last 10 mos and was told that both the products I've used from them are gluten free. Those products are Knorr Caldo con sabor de Pollo chicken flavor bouillon, and Caldo de Tomate tomato bouillon with chicken flavor. Neither of them have any ingredients that would be gluten that I can see. -
We had infertility for over a year, twice, and also had 3 miscarriages in a row ALL in the couple years before I was diagnosed. 8 months after being diagnosed, I became pregnant and am now 21 weeks along. No explanation was every found for all the miscarriages and infertility. I had lots of tests done. I am also 39, and this pregnancy is going GREAT....

ARCHIVED Fries- Fast Food Chains
Frances03 replied to munchkinette's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The only place I will eat fries is Chick-Fil-A. I've recently started making my own fries and I LOVE them. It is SO easy too. I don't crave fast food fries at all any more. -
ARCHIVED Tapioca Starch Flour Taste Problems?
Frances03 replied to dandelionsrflowers's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yeah,I THOUGHT it was the bean flour in the Bob's Red Mill because I'd read a lot of people saying that, but one taste of pure tapioca starch was all I needed to know it was NOT the bean flour, it's the tapioca. The stuff is nasty. I dont know why it's okay in some things but the plain kind I have and the kind in the Bob's is totally gross. -
Oh nooooooooooo!! I'm SO sorry!! I've been thru this too many times and it sucks bad. I am so so so sorry, I'll be praying for you.

ARCHIVED Tapioca Starch Flour Taste Problems?
Frances03 replied to dandelionsrflowers's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It's definitely weird, because I LOVE Chebe, and it's made with tapioca, but it doesn't taste anything like this funky tapioca starch I have, or like Bob's Red Mill All Purpose, which I also think is funky because of the tapioca! It has that SAME weirdness about it. And I've noticed it in other things too, but why do some things with tapioca taste fine... -
ARCHIVED Tapioca Starch Flour Taste Problems?
Frances03 replied to dandelionsrflowers's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was looking for just this info tonight. I'm surprised no one ever answered this post. I had a bread recipe I had tried once and it had a strange taste I didn't care for, but the bread turned out so wonderfully as far as texture (not dry or crumbly) and sponginess (a lot like regular bread!) and sandwichability (I can use it to make a soft normal sandwich...
