  1. I can't speak for any other brands, but I have verified the Kroger generic sold at Fry's grocery stores is gluten free. At least the batch I bought was. They also told me they plan to start putting a gluten free label on some of their OTC generics so you don't have to call to check.
  2. I realize there is very little at Paradise Bakery that might be gluten free, but I have always loved the Chopped BBQ Chicken Salad and when I think about what's in it, it seems pretty likely it could be safe, so long as I can verify the BBQ sauce and the ranch dressing are ok. Has anyone looked into this or seen a gluten-free menu for Paradise Bakery? I sent...
  3. Thank you for looking that up for me.
  4. My son was recently diagnosed with hypospadias (a birth defect of the penis). I was pregnant with him prior to my celiac diagnosis, thus I was not gluten free during the pregnancy. A friend who is a neonatal nurse told me she had heard there was a possible link between a mother with celiac disease and hypospadias in the child. I tried googling it for more...
  5. Hmm, I don't think I'm sensitive to soy. But something about them bugged me. I wonder if it was cross contamination. I think it's safe to say I won't be trying them again to try to figure out what the issue was. They are simple enough to avoid for me. I'm glad they work for some people.
  6. I tried them for the first time last week and I had nausea/vomiting and a bad headache the three days I tried them. I know it sounds stupid trying them 3 days in a row with that reaction, but I am pregnant right now so the nausea/vomiting (my main glutening symptom) isn't so obviously tied to gluten right now. I didn't eat them the next 3 days and felt much...
  7. I had very similar feelings upon my diagnosis. My symptoms were very mild and not the traditional GI symptoms (diarrhea etc). My bloodwork and biopsy were both positive, but I desperately didn't want to believe it. I also was diligent about following the diet, but kept hoping the doctor was wrong. As I kept on the gluten-free diet it became obvious whenever...
  8. I believe, although I'm not 100% positive because my symptoms were never terribly noticable, that mine was triggered by a severe case of mono when I was 21. I was sick for the next 2 years with varying diagnoses including lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and finally depression, none of which were correct. Eventually I got mostly better was never...
  9. Chino Bandito is a Asian/Mexican fusion restaurant. Prior to my diagnosis it was one of my favorite restaurants. It was even featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Food Network. I just assumed it wouldn't be possible to safely eat there gluten free after I was diagnosed in December. Yesterday we had some friends over who wanted to go there for dinner...
  10. You can ask them to use regular table salt on your burger instead of the seasoned salt. I found the first time I had it made seasoned salt free it tasted very bland, but just having them use the regular salt made a huge difference! The Red Robin near us has two different friers for their fries, one with the seasoning and one without. The waitress said a fair...
  11. Gluten ingestion with celiac disease does lead to a higher rate of miscarriage, preterm labor, and low birth weight. I seriously doubt accidental glutening would be enough to cause that though. From what I read it is primarily an issue for undiagnosed celiacs who don't know to eat gluten free, so they ingest it regularly throughout their pregnancy. Try...
  12. It's also sold at Sprouts in case you happen to live in a part of the country that has them.
  13. This is very interesting since it's so similar to my experience. I suppose if this is true for me too than the good news is that I rarely have gotten gluten since going gluten-free. Honestly, the gassiness isn't that big a deal to deal with, I was just worried I was getting gluten and causing damage. Hmm, now to try and figure out what it is that sets off...
  14. I seem to have 2 completely different reactions to getting glutened. Sometimes I will get very foul gas and diarrhea. The gas is pretty uncontrollable, but mostly this reaction is more embarassing than uncomfortable. But it seems that sometimes I will get a very different reaction. Tonight I was feeling great all day, even completed a 3 mile run in record...
  15. Worst -Glutino Bread Sticks (awful, just avoid them)
  16. 3 eggs would be the equivalent. That's actually how I made it since I never have egg substitute in my home.
  17. I agree about them being worthless. I learned more in an hour on the internet than I did from my meeting with a dietician. It was a total waste of time.
  18. Before being diagnosed with celiac I used to follow a bunch of food blogs. I don't visit them as often as I used to but I'm glad I went back to this one a few nights ago. I found this wonderful recipe for a healthy brownie that happened to be gluten free. I baked up a batch that night. I ate them the following day like the recipe recommended and they were...
  19. I had a call into Target to find out if their generic Sudafed was gluten free. They had to get back to me so I went out to the store and bought the name brand stuff since google told me it was safe. Finally, long after my cold is gone, I got an email from Target saying that it is indeed gluten free. Just thought I'd let you know in case you want to take it...
  20. I'm jealous! I hope the Costcos near me start to carry it.
  21. San-J Organic Tamari Wheat Free is gluten free and excellent. I don't know how easy it will be to find at Safeway though. La Choy isn't as good, but it is also gluten free and easy to find.
  22. I'm so glad Barro's does this. We are regulars at Barro's ever since my diagnosis. Prior to that we rarely ordered from them, but they are our go to pizza place now.
  23. Yes it is. I am fairly certain my celiac was triggered by mono. I developed mono when I was 21 and had 2 years of illness that followed and was never diagnosed. The doctors were considered lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia among other options. They never even mentioned celiac. Eventually, I was starting to feel somewhat better and just gave up...
  24. I called Costco this morning to find out if the Kirkland Signature Chopped Onion and Granulated California Garlic were gluten free. I had heard that Costco doesn't track this information and didn't have much hope I would get an answer. I was surprised. The woman I talked was able to pull them up on database and tell me they were both gluten free and free...
