  1. I checked on the Niaspan about a month ago and it was gluten-free.

    ARCHIVED Tremors

The root of both the tremors and the fibromyalgia can be celiac. I have the hand tremors, the neck jerking like Parkinsons, and small muscle jerks in my face and hands. It was several years of gradually increasing problems with both problems and finally becoming disabled before the docs caught the celiac in me. The tremors are much better and so is the FMS...

    ARCHIVED Itch

The spots can be miserable. Be patient with her scratching. It is the most intense "itch" you can imagine...like thousands of tiny needles attacking you from underneath your skin. I have found some things that help us in our family: If the spots are getting red around them, she probably has a secondary infection. Let the doctor determine that and if...
  4. Yes, cross-contamination could be a problem. It could also be that your system is not used to the whole grains in brown rices. Only you know. I'd try two things. One, purchase hot cereals from a gluten-free source like Bob's Red Mill or Gluten Free Mall. Next, try eating it just a little at a time for a couple of weeks and let your system get used...
  5. Here is what the CDers in my family had to do. Start with some simple meat such as chicken that you do not react to. Grill it without extra spices or sauces. Use only a little salt for flavoring and some garlic if you do not react. Be sure you are starting with a clean grill if you used to use it for non-gluten-free items or the cross-contamination can...
  6. When my early teen daughter has gotten into something, she becomes this PMS monster. Mine leveled out after going gluten-free, though it took longer than a few weeks. To the one who is still having problems, are you sure you aren't ingesting something hidden? Might want to recheck some labels and especially your soaps and such. The breakouts I have decided...
  7. Oh yes, and be sure you check under the posts on bread machines. I got one really great recipe there. The recipe for that and some cinnamon rolls are at the link I added in the last message.
  8. There are several good posts going right now, some with good recipes. Take your time and check out the information and mistakes that others have made. If you can, get a good cookbook. Bette Hagman is my favorite. I am placing the post address to a current discussion for you. Like I said, there are several. Look under the cooking and breads category. I can...
  9. I take shots of the B vitamins and of magnesium sulfate. The B's help with the stamina and thinking problems. They also help with the petechial hemorrhaging spots on the skin. The mag sulfate is a nasty shot but it really helps with the muscle spasms and charlie horses. It only takes a couple of shots a week of the B's to keep me going fairly well. I...
  10. I get the hand shakes, but even worse is that over time the hands began to clamp shut to the point that my nails would cut into the skin. The mag sulfate shots help that almost immediately. The neuro symptoms do get better over time. You are right...a problem with yeast will set them all back into motion.
  11. Try them and let me know how they work with your crew. Mine are begging for them again. Even my 18 yr old son grabbed a couple.
  12. Cinnamon rolls so good even my non-gluten-free household members wolf them down: I use a recipe that I got off this site only I use a different mix of flours so I'll try to list them off carefully. I mix up a large batch of this baking mix and leave it in the fridge to use for everything from bread in the machine to cinnamon rolls to quick biscuits and...
  13. Been where you are... The good news is that the DH symptoms will improve with time. They got much worse with both of us for the first few weeks. Then they gradually got better. Since there is so much controversity over the oatmeal, we don't do Aveeno baths. At first we did baking soda, then I found a Shaklee product called Basic H that works wonders. You...
  14. So many of us have both celiac disease and multiple allergies that we do understand. I carry vistaril and an epipen everywhere I go. When I get into any of the offending grains for celiac, my mouth swells and my throat closes. So does my daughter's. It is truly frightening to a waiter to watch you grabbing for the medications after the first few bites of...
  15. I forgot to tell you what the neurologist has me on. Exelon for the memory issues. It is an alzheimer's drug, but works well for my memory problems. Gabitril for the muscle spasms that keep my left hand and foot curled up. Baclophen worked better but is not gluten-free. This also helps this muscle spasms that trigger loss of urine. Other drugs for...
  16. When I first visited the neurologist with ataxia, headaches, memory loss, and losing the use of my left side, they tested me every six months for five years because they were so certain that it was MS and they would eventually find lesions. When another doctor diagnosed me with celiac disease, the neurologist's response was literally "Duh! I haven't treated...
  17. Chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia tender points, memory issues, stomach pains...I had them all to the point that I was disabled before anyone considered celiac. If your doctor won't at least do the blood work to see if it might be a problem, find one who will. It is worth the fight...much better than being labeled stressed and depressed for the rest of your...
  18. The charlie horses could be the result of not absorbing calcium or not absorbing magnesium. I have to take supplements of both to keep them under control. My midnight dances around the room have almost gone away.
  19. If your immune system is like mine (and my endocrinologist says most are with celiac disease), it will go haywire the first few weeks. According to him, it is as though your body has been addicted to a drug and now has to get its act back together. You may want to ask the doc if it is necessary to test levels of your drugs in your system periodically for...
  20. You probably need to start over. Don't worry, we have all had our moment with bread. Be sure that you are using the correct amount of dough for your size machine. If it is the usual upright kind of square loaf, you don't want more than about 2 1/2 cups of total dry ingredients and about 1 cup plus the eggs and oil of wet ingredients. There are some really...
  21. Hi! Your daughter's rash around the neck and hairline seem exactly like mine and my daughter's. That is the first place I break out. If your daughter thinks about it, she may realize that she senses these coming on as well, though that area is not as sensitive. DH can come in different places on different people. Mine starts in my hairline, then my chin...
  22. Don't know how it works where you are, but in the states we have to keep track of the difference between the cost of the gluten-free item and the cost of an equivalent standard food item. I have the kids run over and jot down the price and number/ounces of the generic item I would have usually purchased. I keep it in a notebook with my other gluten-free listings...
  23. Can you imagine being in public office, having to eat at all those state dinners all over the world, and being celiac? The risks would be enormous. You would have to have a special chef travel with you at all times or risk being in some foreign hospital regularly.
  24. I use the one from CSAUSA (www.csaceliacs.org). I like it because it is larger than others I have seen and gives specific guidance to the chef in the kitchen. I took mine and had it laminated so that I could wipe it down if something spilled on it. I keep it in a side pocket in my purse and pull it out at every restaurant.
  25. Those of us who are celiac disease in my family have been able to very gradually add back many of the things we reacted to initially. We did have to be overly careful for the first few months. Each of us still reacts to some little something but it is different for each person (soy for me, shellfish for my daughter, etc.) You have to make the decision...
