  1. I was pretty excited this week when one of my good friend's daugther was selling cookie dough for a school fundraiser. She was all excited to tell me that she had cookie dough for me to order (they know that I always order stuff when it is for school. I almost never say no) and before I could even say "No thanks" she says they even have a Gluten Free one...
  2. There are good "gluten" eaters out there...you just gotta find one. I just started seeing a guy that is soooo understanding about my diet. Always asks if I can have this or that, and will only go to restaurants that I can eat something easily. I haven't been diagnosed long, and have only been seeing him for a couple weeks, so the nice guy routine MAY wear...
  3. HI!! I am also from Iowa...Good to see someone from my neck of the woods. Was only diagnosed about 2 months ago, so I am VERY new to this still. I am having a pretty easy time so far though. Any suggestions?
  4. Find something that you have always enjoyed and do it, read a book, watch a movie, I find that when I am feeling crabby I just do something that makes me happy and it turns my crabbyness to happyness. Sounds kinda cheesy I know, but it really does work. I was very snippy and snarly yesterday (PMS) and spent some time outside the house and hanging with a...
  5. I would recommend taking the B12 in the morning instead of at night before bed. B12 is a vitamin that is included in many if not all energy drinks and may be causing the insomnia. I am no expert, but I take a B12 suppliment and always take it in the morning. Don't know if that will help, but thought I would throw it out there.
  6. Most of those symptoms that you list are the ones that I had prior to diagnosis. I did have chronic D but otherwise felt fine in my tummy except for some occasional bloating. My brain fog has definately gotten better since going gluten free, and the fatigue has almost completely disappeared. I didn't really have depression, but totally lacked motivation...
  7. I guess I never thought of it that way....I don't really feel all that stressed about the new diet, I have really embraced it and find that I eat much healthier, and have been losing weight. That makes me happy, but there is some truth to that I think....Thanks for making me think!
  8. I have noticed over the last week or so I have had a problem biting my nails again...I used to do this as a child but outgrew it. Now today I even caught myself with my ink pen in my mouth...I am a total germaphobe, I NEVER do that. Is this something weird going on? I was getting so excited about my nails growing out strong and healthy, and then it was...
  9. I can't really say what the Medical Explination might be, but my thoughts are that when you are eating Gluten your body is trying to fight within itself. It also causes damage to your intestines that doesn't allow your body to absorb the nutrients and vitamins out of food. Just being deficient in vitamins can cause you to be lethargic. Hope this helps...
  10. Many people say that the blood test can show false negatives, but by not eating gluten you will increase the chances of a false negative. If you are feeling better just stick with it, unless you feel that you need an official diagnosis for other reasons. If you still seek to have official diagnosis I have read that many people are diagnosed simply by proving...
  11. I had an appointment with the dietician last week and asked her these questions. I fortunately live by myself, but just before diagnosis bought brand new Pampered Chef stainless steel pans, and REFUSE to throw them out or buy new. She told me that as long as they are not scratched and are washed very thoroughly after a gluten item, then I should be fine...
  12. I am not much of a bread eater and haven't tried any gluten free bread yet, but the general conclusion that I have read on here is that Udi's is one of the best. Not sure where to find it, and do not know from personal experience, just sharing what I have read so far. Good Luck!
  13. It is funny that her dr told her NOT to research it....Mine diagnosed me and told me to check out the internet and come back with questions. It is a very frustrating process when they won't listen. I have had the same problem. Good Luck to your daughter!!
  14. On Saturday I started getting a head cold, that has progressively gotten worse since. I believe that it has nothing to do with Celiac as I am getting rid of green mucus...However since this started the D is back full force and I am back to being tired and foggy. I know that I have not had any CC at home and have only eaten there recently. I did start taking...
  15. I just received an email from a friend of mine that had links to iTunes store for Gluten Free apps available. I hve been checking them out and paid to have one installed and hope that it may help this weekend, and when I am traveling over the next month. I will be sure to check back and let everyone know my thoughts, but wanted to be sure to share the possibility...
  16. Thanks for sharing your ideas, I will pick up some Zanthum Gum and try that next time. Very appreciated.
  17. Yes I live in the US, and I have been trying my best to stay away from processed foods. I know that those are harder to control for gluten so I am trying to make everything myself, from scratch, or eating natural foods. I do drink pepsi though and I know that has HFCS. I will try to switch over to that Pepsi Throwback though that has natural sugar instead...
  18. Tonight I wanted to use up some Zucchini that I had in the fridge and decided to try and make some bread with it. I have made it before with "gluten" flour so I tried to make it without to see what would happen. It turned out and tastes OK, but it just isn't quite right. Any ideas on how to make it better? Here is what I used: 3 Eggs 1 3/4 cup Sugar...
  19. I have been very lucky that my friends are very supportive of what I am going through. They saw me at my worst, when even my family hasn't see that( they all live out of state so they don't know the everyday troubles that I have...and even when you call regularly you don't crash the mood with I have been sick again.) The hardest part is that most of my friends...
  20. I think it is AWESOME that you are seeing results and finding the "light" at the end of the tunnel. It took me a couple of weeks to get over the initial shock. I am SOOOOO not perfect yet, but I am starting to see the positive side of this and am really ok with it now. I hope everything continues to go well for you!!!
  21. Sandsurfgirl, Thanks for making me think a little bit....When I was first having problems my SED rate was elevated...DUH!! Ok I feel much better about that. The nurse said with the Liver tests it could be anything from medication to potential liver diseases. That is why they want to retest in 6 weeks. My biggest concern with that is that my younger...
  22. I was diagnosed in January with Celiac after both a postive blood test and endoscope biopsy. I have been very diligant about gluten for at least the last 2 weeks, but have been careful since being diagnosed. Last week I went back to see my GI and he ordered more blood work and an ultrasound of my abdomen. The nurse called yesterday and my Liver Fuction...
  23. I also thought that I had very few symptoms prior to going Gluten Free, but the first time that I ate Gluten after being gluten-free I found out what a reaction feels like. I agree with the others that I just didn't realize how bad I felt, until I started feeling better. It took one intentional glutening and I have swore off of it since. I couldn't believe...
  24. Does anyone know about the flavored Vodka's? An old favorite is UV Blue but I have been staying away from it since I was diagnosed. It would be great to find something familiar again.
  25. Thanks for sharing, I too have been having lots of pain in my stomach/intestines. My GI prescribed Dicyclomine when I saw him on Tuesday. He states that this is something that they use to treat IBS, but it may help with my pain until I am healed. So far I have taken it only at night, and I am at least able to sleep without being in pain. It can cause...
