It seems from other posts that you have a very nice understanding boss, and that alone is a hard thing to give up. Is there a place elsewhere in the business that you could have your office? They may be willing to rearrange. The thing is, flour gets in the air, and as someone else mentioned, you breathe it in. I have had this happen at a construction site...

ARCHIVED Cardamon As A "cure" For Cd?
Merika replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, I figured you were experienced enough to know it wasn't a "cure" ;-) And Stephanie, oh it makes me so sad, but coconut milk seems to be too rich for me to digest right now It's sounds soooooo yummy. Merika -
ARCHIVED 4yr Old Son Just Diagnosed With Cd
Merika replied to DylansMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Jennifer and welcome There is tons of great information here, and really nice folks. I'm sure you are already, but read through a bunch of past threads (even if the topic isn't exactly for you - we often go off-topic on a thread, lol). And then just ask away, we'll answer what we can Merika -
ARCHIVED Robbie Update
Merika replied to robbiesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
KaitiUSA on this board is really well informed on what tests are for what. You may want to pm her, as I don't think she reads the "parents of kids..." section, not having any kids herself. Merika -
Duane, There are some special made gluten-free beers that are light at best. Nothing dark. I don't know what's available in Delaware. Maybe contact your local celiac org and find out. They will not be at your average grocery store. Sorry, I'm not up on my whiskey ingredients. Someone else will have to chime in Merika

I was just reading up on hypoglycemia, and according to the NIH, personal glucose meters cannot be used to test for it. I admit I don't know much about it, but this is what their site said. Merika

ARCHIVED Cardamon As A "cure" For Cd?
Merika replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Fascinating. I'm sure they don't mean "cure" but rather "treatment" for symptoms. It seems to aid in digestion, especially of fats, which celiacs do have trouble with. I might just try sprinkling some on my cereal tomorrow I LOVE cardamom and since I stopped eating Indian food and spiced breads, haven't figured out what to put it in.... Merika -
Wow! Very cool! It's free and easily accessible I used to work at a medical journal and I can't believe all this stuff's online now!!! Merika

Wandering Hermit, It's been my family's experience that stools can take a loooong time to sort themselves out. Depending on how long you've been sick and how sick you've been, it could be well over a year. It sounds like you are improving overall, and that's what counts. Personally, going from what you say in your post, I would just wait. Keep doing...

ARCHIVED Gf In China (?)
Merika replied to gooldenwending's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Schnucks! You must be in St. Louis! Where can I safely eat gluten-free there? My BIL and family live there (and I did too for 6 years...pre-gluten-free). Sorry, no help about China. Merika -
ARCHIVED What To Do About Breakfast On Vacations
Merika replied to Aprildncr's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Hmmm...you know I hadn't thought about the pre-mixed eggs. Do you think they're really pure eggs? I doubt it somehow. McDonald's, for one, uses these for their scrambled eggs, and uses real eggs for the mcmuffins. So it must be really common. Merika -
ARCHIVED Robbie Update
Merika replied to robbiesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Groannnnn. If his blood tests were positive, he has celiac. That the biopsy showed no damage just means the doctors found no damage - ie might have missed it or there's no noticeable damage yet in your son (yea!). Wheat and gluten *allergies* will NOT show up in the celiac test. Allergy markers and celiac markers are different and different tests need to... -
About the vanilla, it should be gluten-free if it's grain alcohol BUT you may react to alcohol or yeast, so you may be reacting to the vanilla Most people it seems who had celiac for a long time before going gluten-free have subsequent food allergies. Merika

Someone on another thread recommended this book to me, and I LOVED it. You might like it too. It's called.... The Chronic Illness Experience: Embracing the Imperfect Life by Cheri Register Merika

ARCHIVED Celiac Parent; Gf Family
Merika replied to mstrain's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Michelle, First, I gotta ask what you mean by "loosely" diagnosed. ??? I am the celiac in the family (so is my mom who lives nearby). My 3 yr old eats gluten-free. He may be celiac, he may not, we weren't able to test him when I was diagnosed, so we just feed him gluten-free. In the future, we will test him. BUT this has made my life much much... -
Hi, I had rapid heartbeat when I first had celiac symptoms and was eating gluten. I also had with this electrolyte imbalance, which maybe triggered it? It came and went for about a year. Then got less frequent. Then went away - it's rare that it happens to me now. Mind you, I was eating gluten all those years. I found traditional chinese medicine very...

Yeah, I think this is basically impossible unless you're living on $10,000 a year, in which case deductions won't help you at all. I've heard you can get deductions or tax breaks or something if you are in Canada, but you get squat here in the USA. Merika

ARCHIVED A Hard Time With Fatty Foods?
Merika replied to emeraldskies's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I can't digest really fatty foods either. Modest fat at all times for me I've heard some celiacs can't even digest nuts much at first. I think it just takes the body a long time to heal before we can eat the heavy stuff. Merika PS. i had "gall bladder symptoms" off and on for a while last summer, they got really really bad for a few days... -
ARCHIVED How To Find Hidden In Cosmetics

ARCHIVED Temper, Temper
Merika replied to abqrock's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So, how did you find out you're hypoglycemic? I just googled it and it sounds a lot like me - less so now post-celiac disease diagnosis, but still very familiar. It appears that it can be caused by a "critical illness" and starvation, which could clearly be celiac disease, and that the treatment in that case is to treat the underlying illness (celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED Celiac - Other Than Wheat Or Gluten
Merika replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your daughter should be tested. In fact, all of your immediate family should be tested, as they have a 1 in 10 chance of having celiac disease, even without obvious symptoms. The blood test is simple, accurate, and easier to encourage them to do than a biopsy Just make sure they run the full panel with ttg. As for your back, well, it's my experience... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Sprue? What's In The Name?
Merika replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hmmm...the word sprue never bothered me. It sounds sort of like "sprite" those little tree-elf sort of cute creatures, lol. And does anyone use the whole term "celiac sprue" anymore? And WHAT is "tropical sprue"? I mean, if ours is NON-tropical, there must be a tropical version?? Merika -
ARCHIVED Cd Confused With Anorexia...
Merika replied to bored-girl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ooooh, doctors make me so mad! I was 19 and in school when I started showing big celiac symptoms. After repeated doc visits and tests for mono, I ended up in the emergency and admitted to the hospital. I had dropped 15 pounds (5'8" and about 105 pounds) in two weeks. I had always been thin, so was my mom (also later diagnosed celiac), and I had always looked... -
ARCHIVED Can A 3 Month Old Baby Have Cd?
Merika replied to rgeelan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, if I can chime in with unasked for two cents....if she's reacting to the casein in the formula and the only other formula is $$$$$ and not available asap, go back to breastfeeding with you eating dairy. Dairy is dairy and she will be better off IMO with breastmilk with dairy than formula with dairy, yk? My son is this senstive to soy. ANY soy and...
