The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
kareng replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think I would spice it up a bit more than a hamburger meatloaf. Might be a bit bland. I liked the ideas of apples in the meatballs. -

Why not? You can make turkey meatballs in the KFG. And ground turkey is interchangeable with ground chicken..... And meatballs are just tiny meat loafs. http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/09/apple-cheddar-and-turkey-meatballs.html http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/06/crockpot-meatloaf-recipe.html -

Tacos? A skillet Mexi meal - beans, salsa, whatever....? Chili? Chicken " burgers"? Meatloaf? I have seen stir fries with ground meats. Gracie says " feed it to the cat". I forget what people can and can't eat..... -

ARCHIVED Do I Really Need To Go gluten-free?
kareng replied to im1dermike's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Any doc could order a Celiac gene test but you would want a GI for the endo. They may want to do the other end, too ( colonoscopy) at the same time. Checking for other issues. Make sure your GI will do at least 6 biopsies. With your low numbers, you may be catching The Celiac at the beginning stages and not have a lot of damage. Another option might... -

ARCHIVED Coping With The Isolation And Rage
kareng replied to whatever's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think we are trying to tell you that none of us have to cope with the extremes this person is putting you through. Naturopaths rarely do the actual tests needed to diagnose Celiac, which is another reason for our concern. We hate to see you suffer for no reason or miss another disease that might be causing your problems. There are lots of threads about... -

ARCHIVED Coping With The Isolation And Rage
kareng replied to whatever's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Why are you eating this way? Maybe you don't need to. Seems like a very restrictive way to eat without an actual diagnosis of anything. And, by eating gluten-free, you can't get diagnosed for Celiac. Also, people with Celiac date gluten eaters. I know a girl that is Celiac that is getting married soon - to a gluten eater. -

ARCHIVED A1 And Why I Can Not Trust Kraft
kareng replied to hepcat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you believe that Kraft is mislabeling ingredients, you should report them to the FDA. What you are alleging is against the law and should be reported and there should be a recall. There is a way to do that on the FDA website. -
Refractory Celiac Disease
kareng replied to Pagosapig's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/archives/faq/what-is-refractory-sprue This doesn't say much, but it links to all the things your doc should rule out before calling it "refractory". And that list assumes that you have been re-biopsied and still have damage. Can't find the one that says it needs to be 1-2 years with a still positive biopsy. But,...- 10 replies

ARCHIVED Restaurant Pizza Party! {Newbie} Help!
kareng replied to chopmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have you asked him if he would be OK eating before he goes and just getting a soda? I have been to many many many many many end of the season sports parties. Seems like there is always a kid that doesn't like pizza or tacos or whatever is being served and eats before he comes. Maybe being some safe candy for him to eat during dessert? Sounds like they... -

I am not getting that website to come up. If its old an old website, isn't it possible they have changed the ingredients over the years? It's hard to get any product info but recipes on the Kraft site. http://kraftfoods.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1969 "For labeling purposes, Kraft includes wheat, barley, rye and oats as sources of gluten. Here is on thing I found. I think there is another but I don't have time to look for it. It may be that something in A1 doesn't agree with you. It does have a couple of ingredients that are not in my everyday diet. " raisen paste"? http://www.fda.gov/iceci/compliancemanuals/compliancepolicyguidancemanual/ucm074471.htm FDA considers the... -
ARCHIVED A1 And Why I Can Not Trust Kraft
kareng replied to hepcat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I find that very odd for several reasons - 1 is that malt vinegar is an expensive ingredient that companies like to promote. Another is that Kraft is a company that is very good about labelling gluten sources ( even barley). And yet another, in the US, I believe there is a legal definition of " vinegar" and it's not from barley.... I think it must be from... -

I wondered about the In and Outs. We haven't skied Utah for a few years. I thought maybe they have taken over. At PF Chang's - just get one order of food and split for lunch? With some fruit from home? We had good luck with that Pfchangs, too. Be careful of pizza places. There was one a few blocks north that we went to. My son could see over the short... -

ARCHIVED Microgestin Birth Control
kareng replied to elless's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am wondering if the teeny tiny amount of lactose that might be in a BC pill is significant. If we are just talking about lactose intolerance, usually small amounts in foods, bigger amounts than in a tiny pill, are digestable. Now, if it's a casein/ dairy allergy, with anaphylactic responses, that might be different. -

ARCHIVED Detox - Help Me
kareng replied to Brackett's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Good. A few thoughts: You want to make sure you are eating....and enough of different foods, too. Sometimes, people suddenly cut out whole grain bread but don't replace it with gluten-free whole grains ( bread, quinoa, etc). Can mess up blood sugars and give that feeling. If you are taking any medications, as you heal, you may be absorbing them...
