ARCHIVED Chocolate Milk
kareng replied to Chris04626's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think we aren't on the same wave- length here. Ingredients, legally, must be listed. You can't put something in without saying it. In the milk in my fridge ( ingredients posted above), if malt or even broccoli were added, it would be listed. There are no ingredients listed for the mythical " hidden gluten" to hide in. Also, because we are talking about... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Milk
kareng replied to Chris04626's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Of course it would be listed in the title and ingredients - Chocolate malt milk - milk, cocoa, cane sugar, malt flavor or just malt The milk I have now for M says -milk, evaporated cane juice, cocoa, vanilla flavor, DHA algal oil (need to look up what that is), carrageenan, salt, vit a & d Looked up the algal oil - it's made from algae! -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Milk

Go to school and read the ingredients? We have had many brands and haven't seen gluten except in a chocolate malt flavor. -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Milk
kareng replied to Chris04626's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All the ones I have seen are gluten-free. Read the ingredients. It's possible they make a chocolate malt flavored milk. That would be a no- no but the malt would be listed in the ingredients. -
ARCHIVED I Am Having A Hard Time Wrapping My Head Around This...
kareng replied to DistressedNewbie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I understand that many with Hashimoto's feel better gluten-free. That does not mean that gluten causes antibodies to attack the thyroid and that is the cause of it. Anyway....seems like he really should have tested you for Celiac so you know what you are dealing with. You will know what follow- up you need, how careful you need to be, etc. -

kareng replied to DistressedNewbie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did he do an actual blood test for your Hashis? I'm getting a feeling that your doc might be some alternative quack. It makes me mad how some of these "doctors" and sometimes MD doctors spout nonsense that is not based in medical fact. I gave you a couple of links. Mayo clinic does not say gluten antibodies attack the thyroid. You might read some info... -

ARCHIVED I Am Having A Hard Time Wrapping My Head Around This...
kareng replied to DistressedNewbie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not sure why you say Hashimoto's is triggered by gluten? I haven't seen that. I know some do better off gluten. Some have Celiac. Why won't your doctor test you for Celiac? You would need to eat gluten again for that. -

This list is helpful. It can't include every drug that is gluten free. Open Original Shared Link target has started labeling some of the Target brand medications as gluten-free. -
You all must go to some really filthy grocery stores! ( Insert laughing smilie guy here). I know the acceptable levels of cleanliness are different in different parts of the country. Here, the belts are always wet from getting cleaned all the time.

ARCHIVED Worcestershire Sauce
kareng replied to pretty in paleo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not sure where you are getting your " facts". But L& P does say gluten-free on it. Perhaps they know what is in the ingredients? Along your line of thinking, I'm surprised you would use that BBQ sauce as it has " smoke flavoring". That's another ingredient people on the Internet think contains " hidden" gluten. ( I'm not saying it has gluten, it... -

ARCHIVED Had Endoscopy Today.....not Hopeful
kareng replied to nosy parker's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can ask at your next appointment or call and ask for them. You don't even talk to the doc if you call. Lots of people keep them for their own records and will have them to give other doctors or enroll in a medical study or send insurance. -

ARCHIVED Study For Vaccine.......help
kareng replied to valeriek's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I say go for it, if you want. Someone has to test new meds. I would make sure you really understand what you must do and what the follow- up is. It sounds like you don't really know enough to make a good decision. I'm assuming its a reputable medical center conducting it? Make sure they will give you treatment, at no cost to you, if something goes... -
Well...that was quick! Maybe this will help? Get your laundry and bills caught up and get this taken care of! I will be thinking of you.

ARCHIVED Silly Question Re: Turkey
kareng replied to anna34's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I wouldn't eat anything they prepared. They have no understanding of Cc. They might wash and drain the veggies in the colander they have used for 5 years for gluten pasta.
