ARCHIVED Monavie Acai Blend Anyone Try?
Nightingale8472 replied to mixxy231's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Soy Sauce??? That's weird. I wonder if that case was spoiled (though I've never had that happen when you consume it by the year shelf life...maybe the case was sitting around at your friend's house?). It usually tastes sweet and fruity, with a little cranberry-like tart. I do admit that it's much better cold, but I think that's just because warm juice is... -
ARCHIVED Monavie Acai Blend Anyone Try?
Nightingale8472 replied to mixxy231's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been using MonaVie for years. I feel better when I drink it. I also feel better when I take vitamins, but I've noticed the effect more with the MonaVie. Maybe it's in a more easily absorbed form since it's from natural fruit sources? Sure, I'd probably feel really good if I ate a ton of fresh fruits and veggies every day, but honestly, how many of... -
ARCHIVED Recently Deaf Cat Being Picked On Horribly
Nightingale8472 replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
A litter box in your room for her, and a spray bottle for the other cats. Keep them separate when you're not home, and when they are together and picking on her, spray them every time. They'll think the evil sky-water gods are watching them every time they pick on her, and stop after a while. -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed-Not Happy
Nightingale8472 replied to Sher1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you're really worried that it might be something else and want more confirmation, there are labs that can do genetic testing to see if your son carries the gene for celiac. If he has the gene, you should also be tested for celiac, as you may have "silent celiac" where there are no intestinal symptoms, but damage being done to the intestines all the same... -
ARCHIVED Never Eating Gluten Again!
Nightingale8472 replied to reeetz's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Maybe you had a negative blood test because you were gluten free for six weeks? Regardless, you obviously feel better off gluten, so keep it up! Best wishes, and I hope you feel better soon! -

ARCHIVED Blessings And Troubles
Nightingale8472 replied to Peace41's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Personally, I make a sugar scrub of just sugar (cane sugar... not baker's sugar, too fine, or raw sugar, too coarse, but just the plain sugar) and olive oil. It's fabulous for dry skin, and all natural and gluten free. I've found that if I use that regularly in the shower, I don't even need lotion. A lot of commercial lotions use petroleum products as... -

ARCHIVED Best Book About Gluten-Free Living?
Nightingale8472 replied to Lynayah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really liked Elisabeth Hasselbeck's book. Some of the actual info on what is and is not gluten-free isn't entirely accurate (but she goes overboard with caution, rather than saying something is gluten-free when it isn't...if you follow her advice, you won't get glutened, but you'll end up cutting out foods that are okay. Her dining card also goes overboard... -
ARCHIVED Dandruff And Flaking Scalp
Nightingale8472 replied to chefmomof3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Unless your hair is very oily or dirty, there's no reason to wash it every day. It's very bad for your scalp if you do, and a waste of expensive shampoo. Your scalp naturally produces oil to protect it, and washing it too often strips away that natural protection, causing it to either overreact and become very oily, or get very dry and flaky, and the hair... -
ARCHIVED My First Gluten Free Torture
Nightingale8472 replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Most of the dressings at Carl's Jr. are gluten free. I ask my friends to grab me some when they eat there. Some McDonalds have Newman's Own dressings that are gluten free (specifically the Newman's Own -
ARCHIVED My First Gluten Free Torture
Nightingale8472 replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Most pizza places have salad...what about a green salad with just oil and vinegar, or bring your own salad dressing? Something I've noticed when eating out with my friends is that they tend to feel less uncomfortable digging into the rolls or bread basket at the table if I've ordered a salad and asked the waiter to bring it at the same time as the bread... -
ARCHIVED Cold,Rude And Stupid Was My Starbucks Hotline Rep
Nightingale8472 replied to purpleflowers's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not sure if this has the info you're looking for: Gluten Free Information The following information was given by a Customer Service Department representative for Starbucks via telephone in December 2008. They require you to call to receive information about their gluten-free menu items, rather than email. Not gluten-free: The following ingredients... -

ARCHIVED Airlines Providing gluten-free Meals
Nightingale8472 replied to Nightingale8472's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I'm going to be flying to Italy on British Airways. The tour company assures me that gluten free won't be a problem (and the company rep actually did know what it meant! She gave me the definition over the phone just to be sure we were on the same page), and it was actually their third gluten-free request this year, and it was only February when I called... -

ARCHIVED Aack! Puppy Opened Spay Incision....
Nightingale8472 replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yes, they mean it. I know some puppies are really active, and some dogs just want to be with their people and don't do well in a crate if you're home (my dog's one of these. He does wonderfully crated when I'm not home, but if he's in a crate and I'm home and he can't get to me, you'd think he was being murdered with the way he howls about it), so if you... -
One of my favorites... I'm guessing I'll be snacking on this often when I'm in Italy this summer. Caprese Salad Ingredients: 4-5 Large Ripe Tomatos, sliced 1/4" thick 1 lb Fresh whole milk Mozzarella or Burrata sliced up to 1/4" thick 1/3 Cup fresh Basil, thinly sliced Thinly sliced red onion (if desired). ARCHIVED Great Gluten Free Lotions And Soaps!
Nightingale8472 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just emailed the company that makes my favorite line of lotions and soaps, and they've confirmed that all their products are gluten free. One of the soaps contains oats, and that one should probably be avoided, but aside from that, everything is safe for us! www.blythespirits.com I love their shea butter body balm, and the lotions are amazing too... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Kids And Sports
Nightingale8472 replied to OBXMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Open Original Shared Link I've found a couple of websites... most seem to recommend starting out at 500 mg, but check with your doc before giving any supplement to a kid. Personally, I used to take creatine before a workout (not recommended for children), and glutamine after to help build back the muscles I'd broken down in the workout. It made a massive... -
ARCHIVED Per A Request, Here Is A List Of What I Can And Can'T Eat
Nightingale8472 replied to virginiagl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, bison is what's commonly sold as "buffalo" here in the US. Buffalo is a misnomer, as there are no real Buffalo in North America. Buffalo are native to Africa and Asia. I'm guessing bison are on your list because bison and buffalo belong to the family bovidae, and so do cattle, and beef is on your list of bad foods. -

ARCHIVED Very Confused About Whey And Dextrose Labeled On gluten-free Products
Nightingale8472 replied to virginiagl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
With Sprouts, they have an aisle that's MOSTLY gluten-free stuff, but you have to pay attention, because the aisle, at least in my local Sprouts, is more of a "special diet" aisle rather than strictly gluten-free. They keep Pamela's mixes right next to the vegan mixes with the whole wheat flour. It's the little green tags on the shelf, not the aisle itself...
