  1. Uh oh.... is Suave a no-no? I read the ingredients and didn't see any bad stuff. Does it have gluten in it or is it just bad for your hair in general?
  2. I've had some glimpses of feeling better after 4 months gluten-free, but have had some setbacks lately. I'm sooo looking forward to the day when the good days outnumber the bad. That feeling of being light and happy is just too good! Hopefully I'll figure out what else is getting me so I can eliminate that and get BETTER. You all give me such hope.
  3. I've been thinking the same thing. How did you go about finding someone good?
  4. Cookie dough? Oh, dear... I thought I'd have to give up my addiction to Ben & Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough, which was putting POUNDS on me. Now you tell me there's one that's gluten-free/CF? Mmmmmmm.... I hope my local stores don't carry it!
  5. Thanks, skinny... just checked it out. Looks great. Just FYI, everyone, I chatted with customer service to ask them if their "cake enhancer" product was gluten free. The answer was "NO", so no enhancers for us!
  6. Magpie... we just got back from a cruise on Royal Caribbean. I was pretty worried, too, but my worries were unfounded. I hadn't notified them in advance because I hadn't even gotten my dx yet. However, I knew I needed to stay gluten-free well before the dx. So, here's what happened: The moment we stepped foot on the boat we went to talk with the Maitre D...
  7. LOL! Good point. I'm avoiding anything processed right now because I'm still pretty new to this whole diet and don't want to complicate matters. Maybe as time goes on and I stop getting glutened by my own mistakes, I'll add processed foods back in. But for now, it's chicken, fruit & veggies for me. Oh, and Pamela's gluten free gingersnaps.
  8. I would get casein tested for sure, and soy, yeast and eggs to cover all bases. Might as well get the whole story, right? Regardless of your genes, if you're reacting to one or more food groups, you need to know which ones to cut out of your diet.
  9. I have the Arrowhead Mills "valencia" creamy -- is that the one? I like it, and as far as I can tell, it's gluten free. I like it on Glutino crackers -- yum! The only thing with this peanut butter is it takes about an hour to mix it up completely. Keep it in the fridge after you open it.
  10. Just got home from our local Whole Foods. I'm soooo paranoid about cross contamination right now because I keep getting glutened after 4 months of strict gluten-free and I don't know where it's coming from. What struck me at the store was the presentation of their gluten free products, specifically the flours. The gluten-free varieties are all mixed in...
  11. Me, too, babysteps. Swollen fingers and ankles where I can't get my rings off and can barely bend my feet around. Weird. Plus the usual symptoms mentioned above. Mine only last a few days fortunately.
  12. For me the definitive answers (the PROOF) came from Enterolabs. They can test you for gluten, malabsorption, casein (dairy), soy, eggs, yeast. They can also do the gene testing, but you've got that in the works already. I think their pricing is reasonable and their customer service is really great, too. I like being in control of what tests are run and getting...
  13. We have a wonderful health food store nearby who also sells online. Open Original Shared Link Click "Buy Online" button, then choose category "Gluten Free". They have a TON of gluten-free grains and flours you can buy over the Internet. I go into this store and I'm like a kid in a candy shop -- soooo many choices!
  14. Ditto what DoodleDog described. I'm pretty thin, but when I was eating gluten, I would blow up and look like I swallowed a bowling ball. Very uncomfortable. Now that I'm gluten-free, my abdomen is almost flat, even after I eat. The only difference from what you're describing, Angie, is my belly would go down in size overnight, then blow up again the next...
  15. There's a name for this? I didn't realize it had a name. I've had difficulty remembering faces most of my adult life. I have to meet someone 6-8 times before I know who they are. It's really embarassing. My sister has the same problem. Sometimes I think it would be easier to hang a sign around my neck saying "I'm sorry, but who are you again?" I'm a double...
  16. Thanks, Raven. I'm being strict to the point of paranoia right now so hopefully I'm not getting any gluten (unless it's floating around in the air I breathe!) Will get some B12 supplements today. There's not much chance of getting any from the limited foods I eat. You're giving me a lot of hope -- thanks!
  17. I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy 2 years ago, and have had many other seemingly unrelated health problems over the last 5-6 years. 4 months ago I went gluten-free when I found there might be a link between celiac/gluten sensitivity and PN. Two weeks ago I got my positive dx from enterolab that I'm gluten and casein sensitive with a double DQ1. ...
  18. Bobbi... when you're ready to give up the Pepsi, try going to seltzer water. I had to give up diet pepsi because of the sweetner (that's another story) and I just don't like "plain water". But the bubbles in seltzer water are just like a soda, so for me it satisfied that need for bubbles to feel quenched. Give it a try. There's also club soda, but that has...
  19. Thanks for the great suggestions, everyone. I'll try them all. LOL! I'm very lucky to have a Whole Foods within about 45 minutes' drive, plus a Trader Joe's and a really super health food store called Harvest House. Made my first bread from scratch yesterday. Not a total disaster, but it had a huge hole running along the top of the whole loaf, which...
  20. I just tried the chocolate chip cookie mix today and it turned out great. I just got my labs back from entero last week even tho I've been eating gluten-free for a few months (on what turned out to be a pretty good hunch). I'm also casein intolerant and didn't realize this mix needed butter. So I dashed to the store and got some dairy-free margarine and the...
  21. Hi, Mom~ How about going online and pre-ordering a bunch of food from one of the stores like glutenfreemall.com and have it delivered to the Georgia address?
