  1. Just ate there last week and saw the new menu. It's sooo great to have an ENTIRE menu you can order from safely. The manager of our PF Chang's actually came to our table when I asked the waiter for the gluten-free menu. He explained the whole process in the kitchen -- how they have a separate work station for preparing the gluten-free food, and use special...
  2. Actually, after what I saw today in our local Safeway, putting the gluten-free stuff in with non-food items sounds like a pretty good idea. I was looking for sorghum flour in the baking aisle. Didn't find it, but there were many gluten-free products in this one little location, sitting side-by-side with whole wheat flours and other poisons. I will talk...
  3. Shep~ you and I are similar being double DQ1, non-celiac gluten sensitive. No malabsorbtion, no anti-ttg but anti-gliadin positive. I just had some blood work to test for vitamin and mineral deficiencies and my vitamin D was WAY low. Since D plus calcium is what our bones need, that may be your problem, too. You might want to have your vitamin/mineral levels...
  4. Is a can of worms gluten free?
  5. Yup. About month 2 of being gluten free I caught a cold. Bummer. Knocked me down for a few days. I think our immune systems are working overtime trying to get "normal" again, so they're just not interested in battling some puny little cold bug. Hang in there. It'll get better. Drink lots of fluids, plenty of rest, and have a little chicken soup.
  6. You mentioned on another post that you've been gluten free for 4 years. If that's still the case, the Enterolab test will more than likely come back negative, even if you are gluten intolerant. They're looking for antibodies and if you're not eating gluten, you're not producing antibodies to it. The antibodies do stay in your body for a while after you stop...
  7. I've read that many celiacs have trouble with MSG (monosodium glutimate) also. I agree with Tarnalberry ... no real food there! Are you trying to find something that's soy free or just gluten free?
  8. Get one of those super soakers so you can be all the way across the room when you spray them. That way they don't associate the water with you. It just mysteriously "appears" when they pick on your older kitty. Super soakers are pretty accurate, too, so you don't end up drenching the photo of your Auntie Jane accidentally.
  9. This is probably not what you want to hear, but I think you just sacrificed your bread maker to the gluten gods. I looked at mine and realized there was no possible way I could clean it completely of every spec of gluten. There are just too many nooks and crannies. And if you're as sensitive as many of us are, just a spec will nail you. Your reaction was...
  10. Except perhaps broccoli. Yuck.
  11. One additional thing to try when you put individual slices in ziplocks... Take a straw and stick it in the bag on one side. Then zip up the bag as far as the straw. Suck all of the air out of the bag (mmmmmmm... tastes like bread), then quickly withdraw the straw and zip it up the rest of the way. It's the same concept as those vacuum bag thingies...
  12. I kicked the soda habit a few years ago. Was drinking caffeine free diet pepsi before. Then I read how the artificial sweeteners can cause joint pain, so I switched to seltzer water. Comes in cans, very cheap, no sodium (like club soda has) and still has that fizzy quality I need to really quench thirst. Just plain water doesn't cut it for me. Pretty easy...
  13. The important thing is you've been doing a great job so far -- 40 days gluten-free is terrific. And remember that 40 days of feeling well and healthy you've just experienced. You'll get that again shortly. This is just a minor bump in the road, so don't feel defeated. Things will settle down again, you'll figure out what happened and make sure it won't happen...
  14. I'd eliminate soy and yeast for the time being, and maybe even nightshades. Also, those Jimmy Dean sausages are suspect... did you call the company? So many of the really yummy processed meats have fillers in them. (I try not to think about it...) You could also try an Enterolab test and see what you're reacting to. I did it to confirm my suspicions about...
  15. Thanks for this link, Lynayah. I didn't know there were certification organizations who inspect gluten-free foods and determine their true gluten "freeness". I googled the GFCO and found their website where you can look up products that are certified by them to be gluten-free. You can search by company name, like "Enjoy Life", or you can search by product...
  16. My trainer told me that ankle and wrist weights are actually bad for your joints. It puts excessive force on them by adding weight at a distance, i.e. the distance from your ankle to your hip joint and the distance from your wrist to your shoulder. A better idea is to wear extra weight around your middle. That will still give you a good workout but not stress...
  17. I did two sets of labs. One for gluten and casein plus the gene test, the second for eggs, soy and yeast. I got my first test results back in 12 calendar days. The second took a little longer -- 18 days. They say 2-3 weeks, and that was my experience. Waiting is hard. Hang in there.
  18. I was toying with the idea of finding a nutritionist or dietitian, but found a great source on the internet for nutritional info. It's a chiropractor's website in Clearwater, Florida, and she's got a ton of info about vitamins, minerals, nutritional needs, and what foods give you which vitamins/minerals. Here's a link to the vitamin page: Open Original...
  19. Kayo - you came to the right place for support. I, too, have just been diagnosed by Enterolab in February, and have been hanging out here at this forum ever since. There are so many wonderful, supportive, knowledgeable people here and talking with them will make you feel so much better about the whole situation. Yes, there will be anger, sadness, depression...
  20. Somebody probably hit the wrong button when replying to you. Apparently there's a rating system on this new format where you can rate posts with + or -. I don't think anyone uses it on purpose.
  21. I never thought of using imitation butter extract. Good thought!!! All of my baking still comes out looking like science experiments, but I'll keep trying.
  22. I use a hormone replacement patch and always have a red rash under it when I take it off, which takes a few days to go away. Fortunately I can move the placement around so at any one time I only have one rash and one patch, not in the same place. You'd think the manufacturers could come up with a better adhesive for these products...
  23. Here's a link from the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center about refractory Celiac. It lists some other possibilities for your continuing symptoms: Open Original Shared Link Hope you're feeling better very soon.
  24. Gluten intolerance: Gluten intolerance gone horribly wrong: lol!
  25. Well, maybe I'll try it with Earth Balance soy-free. It actually tastes remarkably like butter, despite it's healthy ingredients.
