  1. Open Original Shared Link It is a carry-forward of the extended ASCII character set used by PC-DOS and MS-DOS. What value you type depends on what vowel you want to combine with the circumflex. I've been distracted with other things, so I am rather late in my reply. I wasn't ignoring you.
  2. It is my understanding that, at this time, all Hall's formulas are gluten-free. This was not always so, but the barley content was removed from those that had it well over a year ago. I am not familiar with isomalt, but if it is made from beets it should be safe. Beets are not a grain and do not contain any gluten.
  3. Steve, if you were to actually read the proposed regulation, you might notice that it differs in a significant way from the European one. The difference is the issue that you have been pounding at for as long as I have known you. Under the proposal, carrots can be labeled gluten-free. You don't have to add gluten to claim gluten-free. Products which are...
  4. Part of the problem here lies with the very word, "gluten." The Open Original Shared Link is not the same as what we mean when we say "gluten." The above link leads to: gluten (uncountable) 1. The major protein in cereal grains, especially wheat; responsible for the elasticity in dough and the structure in baked bread. This is how...
  5. Laura and Lisa, my fellow moderators, have captured the sense well. You can recommend just about any product, as long as you do not make it. You can suggest a store to buy it at, as long as you don't have an interest in the store. You can put information about your store in your profile, including a link if you have a web site. You are moving into...
  6. VH is owned by ConAgra, and they have ConAgra's policy that any gluten will be clearly listed in the ingredients. The majority of VH sauces are gluten-free, including their regular and reduced-sodium soy sauces. VH products are, to the best of my knowledge, only sold in Canada.
  7. Incredible! Yes, it is back to what it was. The top post on page 1200 is back to Susie's post. I have no idea what happened.
  8. The post that was on the top of page 1200 is now about five posts down the page. To do that, posts would have to be inserted into the thread. A moderator could find an obscure old thread with five posts and merge that thread with this one to cause such an effect. But without going back and rereading the entire thread, it could be very difficult to find the...
  9. There has been so much sadness and anger here of late. Our nephew sent us a couple of phunnies that I want to share. Missing Husband Rick was in trouble -- He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was really angry. She told him, 'Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in less than 6 seconds...
  10. Well stated, Jess. Sarah, you need legal support. You have lots of rights in this situation. Don't let him take advantage of confusion or hesitation. PLEASE get a lawyer involved. Don't agree to anything until your lawyer has looked at it. You are in our thoughts.
  11. I'm here. It has been a busy day for me at our business. I have been looking in, and thinking. SO SO much to think about. Sarah, I am thinking about you. Amanda, your new signature moved me.
  12. Tapioca is gluten free. I don't have any problems with it. I can't speak for why others may be avoiding it.
  13. Sometimes it takes a little while for the mods to see everything. I think I'm the only one on at the moment, and I'm at work so I'm kind of in and out. But it is pinned now (as is this one).
  14. I don't have any specific answers to your question. I am in the Toronto area. You might want to send a PM to member elye; she is in Nepean (now part of Ottawa) up the road from you.
  15. Most science is inexact. If you adhere to the conviction that all humans are, to some degree, intolerant to grains, then something above zero should be expected in the general population (control sample). A level significantly higher than that of the control sample is indicative of a different tolerance, which in this case is Celiac Disease.
  16. I cannot comment on other brands, since I have not investigated, but I do know that the orange juice sold by Minute Maid is safe. I use it regularly and have done so for years.
  17. Happy birthday, my friend! :)
  18. Modified food starch can refer to any starch which has been partially broken down ("modified"). The modification does not add any protein, so if the original starch was not from a gluten-containing grain, then the modified starch does not contain gluten. It is usually corn starch. In the US, by law, if it is wheat starch then the word "wheat" must appear...
  19. Dropping in for a quick visit. I'm current on reading, but don't have much silly in me to share. There is an ancient Chinese curse, I believe, that goes something like, "May you live in interesting times." For those of us who moderate here, it has been "interesting times" for the last 24 hours or so. I went for my annual follow-up visit with the ophthalmologist...
  20. These boards are run for specific purposes, by an individual, at his expense. I think that he has the right to make rules and appoint moderators (I am one as well) to monitor them. This section is titled Dermatitis Herpetiformis and has as its purpose, "Discussions concerning the skin condition associated with celiac disease." This is clearly visible on...
  21. Your majesty, you must remain phunny whilst wearing the crown!
