  1. Yeah, it is quite a bit of work. Though as a starving student any bit helps and it is worth the hassle!
  2. In Canada people with celiac disease can get a tax credit for the cost difference between gluten-free product and regular ones. Here is the info for you from the government's website (Open Original Shared Link). When I called, they said that if you do your taxes on-line, just give them the final cost difference but keep all the documentation in case they...
  3. A bun...a simple, soft, fluffy, fresh bakery bun!
  4. Yeah, I agree. I think for the rest of my life there will sometimes be moments when I say "damn!", but unfortunately that is just how life is. At least celiac disease is manageable and it could be a lot worse!
  5. I just went for a follow-up biopsy yesterday to see if the gluten-free diet is working at fixing up any damage (since my Ab levels are still through the roof after diligently being gluten-free). I had a very early appointment and, in my groggy state on the way home from the hospital, all I wanted was to stop at a coffee shop or bakery for a fresh muffin...
  6. I can totally relate to this topic, and like sndsurfgirl has said, the anxiety is a key indication that I have been glutenated. Before diagnosis I was very anxious all the time and it definitely affected my friendships. The anxiety made me very nosy about the people around me, and I would tend to pry a bit to much...its like I needed to know everything...
  7. I, personally, do not avoid products that are "made in a facility that also produces wheat." The way I see it, most products without gluten in the ingredients list are probably manufactured in a factory that currently, or at some point, has also made glutteny foods. If the company cares enough to give us a heads-up about it, they are just one step ahead...
  8. And these fad diets are really great for keeping the price of gluten-free food down (said with as much sarcasm as possible)!
  9. Please check your inbox. It seems as though we have some shared experiences.
  10. Wow, wish I had known about that place! I am sure I would have splurged once on my back-packer's budget!
  11. I have just returned from 6 weeks in Europe, and thought I would post my experiences about eating gluten free there. I was diagnosed with celiac about 3 months before the trip (while planning) which was a huge bummer, but I can say that I was able to truly enjoy seeing other parts of the world! I did get a little bitter at some points, particularly beer...
  12. I called Growers Cider and they said "Our products should be gluten free as we do not use any gluten or gluten containing ingredients to make our ciders. However, we do not test for gluten levels." Should this be safe?
  13. Does anyone know if they can sell Udi's in Canada? I know due to differences in packaging regulations, they can't always sell American products here.
  14. Like tarnalberry said, I have also been OK with some products that say "produced in a facility that also manufactures wheat products" if I really like the product, but will find an alternative if I can. For example I really like Guiltless Gourmet nachos and haven't got sick off them. I do not, though, eat anything that says "may contain traces of ..." because...
  15. I think they don't understand the cc. I said will always have to use clean cutting surfaces, utensils, etc. They, however, "know someone else with celiac who doesn't worry about it" and think that after I am gluten-free for a longer period of time I can do the same. I explained that maybe the person they know has a a gluten intolerance of gluten allergy...
  16. Back from the cottage and it was OK. I went to the sushi place before we left to ensure there were no cc problems and brought a cake for the first night. I was pretty frustrated when from breakfast and lunch she didn't buy any of the brands I suggested but just got anything "gluten free". I still at the stuff, but would have eaten better on my own. She...
  17. Thanks. By trying so hard to be considerate, she is actually being inconsiderate.
  18. I am spending a night at a cottage with some girlfriends, and was really looking forward to it. I wondered if everyone minded eating gluten-free so, for once, I would be like everyone else. Only 4 of us going so very manageable. The other girls were in, so I suggested: -picking up sandwiches from a local gluten-free restaurant for dinner on the way up...
  19. Oh, sometimes life is just complicated! But thanks!
  20. I really wish the sold Udi's here in Canada! Though, as for Glutino products, there english muffins are pretty good. I haven't found a bread I like yet here in Canada (though I agree Glutino Harvest Cornbread is the best we've got) so I use these english muffins instead of bread for toast.
  21. Can anyone share an experience with the gluten free meals on Air Canada Flights? I will be getting a dinner and a breakfast. I have read other on-line sources that said the meals were either brutal, or contained gluten (like barley salad...duh!). Also that they throw gluten-free and vegan into one meal, so it isn't very satisfying. The info was all from...
  22. I really really appreciate all of this information.. Thanks! And I will fill you all in on the adventure when I get home
  23. I have heard most european yogurts, ice creams, and gelatos have gluten. Does any one know more about this? I want to be safe if I stop for a cool treat!
  24. I do LOVE cheese Though I have heard most European ice creams and gelatos contain gluten. Boo!
