ARCHIVED Pamela's Brownies
hypersof replied to hypersof's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
if it can be of any help/ interest to someone: I think I don't react to the tapioca flour or other ingredient in pamelas mix, as I've eaten other things with them w/o a problem... but it may as well be the buckwheat! not 100% sure yet, but it seems like it... it isn't easy to figure out these things! but I feel like I am doing progress here -
ARCHIVED Arrowhead Mills Buckwheat Flour
hypersof replied to hypersof's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
thanks so much for your input! I just realize now that I've had buckwheat (Pocono Kasha) about a month ago...didn't seem to have a reaction back then (but I had very little, when these last days I've had a lot of stuff w/ buckwheat flour in it...) I still have some at home so I will try to recover first, and then try the Kasha again...trying to make... -

ARCHIVED Arrowhead Mills Buckwheat Flour
hypersof posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi all I am 3 months gluten-free now, and doing much much better -most of the time. It's been a few days I feel like crap again (BM problems, skin rash, fatigue, brain fog...) and looking back at my food diary, I am thinking arrowhead mills buckwheat flour is the culprit (bought a pack last week, since then I baked quite some stuff with it. after a... -

hi! sorry I haven't come here for a while... I never sorted out if the mix got me or if it was something else...I just went back to baking my brownies from scratch and I am fine:) the basic recipe I use is pretty simple: melt chocolate (180g) & butter (150g) / mix eggs (3), sugar (150g) & flour (60g) / mix these two mixes, and then bake ... -
ARCHIVED How About Positive Family Support?
hypersof replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep! My brother and SIL had bought a BUNCH of nice french food for hubby & me, when we came back to Paris to visit the family a few months ago -like, 3 days after my diagnosis! I told them right away about the diagnosis & diet, they went with me through all the labels to see what I could have, put me a portion apart before serving things to... -
Hi all I am writing because I'm planning to go out for dinner (couldn't have imagined being stressed by eating out a few months ago ) first time since going gluten-free. I just want to take my husband out for a nice dinner for his birthday in a couple of weeks -we're french so we love good food, plus I think the whole gluten-free thing has been...

Yep, I agree. I think a lot of us have been diagnosed w/ IBS before discovering the celiac thing... I am "only" gluten intolerant/ sensitive/ whatever, but I have to point out that before going gluten-free, absolutely NOTHING I tried -for several years- to relieve the IBS symptoms worked (be it water/ fiber intake, eating a very balanced diet, not too much...

hi there I am really not a specialist about make up, since gluten gives me skin problems I avoided it a lot... But just in case it helps (?), here are the two products I use: -100% pure lip & cheek tint -it is gluten-free, though I know they have some other products with gluten in them (CC?). I use it for cheeks & eyes and haven't had a problem...

I am sorry for you! it turns out, this is going OK for us -hubby came back 10 days ago... I had a hard time explaining cc and not looking like I'm completely paranoid to him...and he decided to stick to his first idea of being gluten-free with me (at home only) because he feels he would be overwhelmed if he had to watch all of his movements (cleaning... -
Hi all! I have been "diagnosed" almost 2 months ago...actually no firm diagnosis. My GP was not knowledgeable enough about celiac disease to test me for anything else than TTG antibodies I believe, which came back neg. In the mean time, he told me to go gluten-free and see. He was wise enough though, to tell me I probably am "intolerant, sensitive...

ARCHIVED Girl Question
hypersof replied to proud-armywife's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Same here, I think if this persists you should talk to the doc...but it's probably nothing. 2 years I've thought my disappearing periods were due to my IUD (hormonal; this tend to be a secondary effect of it) But since (recent) gluten diagnosis, I've come to realize the periods thing began happening when I began noticing GI symptoms. Of course... -
ARCHIVED Is Shampoo W/ Gluten Ok?
hypersof replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the advice! I spent a fair amount of time the other day, shopping for some new products... I think gluten isn't in THAT many products, but with the gazilion unpronouncable ingredients they put in it...I never know! Anyway, I think I found some safe: face cream (weleda)/ shampoo (everyday shea)/ hand cream (desert essence)/ handsoap (kiss... -
ARCHIVED Is Shampoo W/ Gluten Ok?
hypersof replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jason, I agree w/ the above!! I am currently trying to find out about all my Burt's bees products...read some positive things about the lip balm/ creams & shampoo that I use...but as for the ingredients, I am still doubting the Tocopherol/ vitamin E, as I didn't get an answer if it was made from wheat...anyone knows?? Otherwise, I am very interested... -

ARCHIVED Pamela's Brownies
hypersof replied to hypersof's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
ok thanks for the replies! I guess it is not Pamela's then; I will check my food diary again, and see if there is anything else that could be the culprit. otherwise I'll consider it's probably the b. beans...too bad, I like them! but it is true that they always made me uncomfortable (I tried to introduce some again for diversity) nuts are not a... -
ARCHIVED Pamela's Brownies

Hi all Just wondering if anyone has had a bad reaction to pamela's choco brownie mix in the past? Seems I got glutened from them?? at least my reaction was similar (bloating/ constip./ gas/ nausea/ swelling feet & hands/ skin rash/ brain fog etc.) The only other suspect in my diet since the last few days are black beans -seems they got me... -

Hi there! I am amazed by all your answers; thanks for the input I agree hubby shouldn't have to go gluten-free for me, but he's the one who came up with the idea (when he began realizing the extent of cc problems, mainly) and I won't complain because we currently have a tiny tiny kitchen...plus I do most of the cooking; I like it woooow,... -

I am sorry to interfere, I have no answer but related concerns...hope this is ok I was recently wondering about burt's bees products cause I use some, and a lot of them have tocopherol (origin not precised), so I contacted them and they replied I should check the ingredients, but that even for the products not containing gluten ingredients, they can... -

Hi all I am writing tonight, looking for some input about everyday life at home, regarding your significant other, his/ her reaction when diagnosed/ going gluten-free/ being glutenated etc...because I didn't really have to deal with that so far, but I will soon! >>I have been diagnosed about 6 weeks ago. The first 2/3 weeks were a bit... -
ARCHIVED How Long Are You Binned After A Glutening?
hypersof replied to Leper Messiah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
same problem here for the ups-n-downs! I keep hoping this is going to get more stable soon...on the better side! (I am "only" 6 weeks gluten-free) seems that when I feel down again, it can last anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks Sophie -
Thanks for the brownie tips! It's been 3 days I feel so-so, not terribly awful, but not good. I miss feeling great! (don't really know if this was a glutening/ cc/ or just part of the beginner's ups-n-downs...) Anyway, I am thinking, a little gluten-free brownie won't hurt my mood And Nor_TX, thanks so much for the fairy dust!! We'll all...

ARCHIVED How Long For That Brick-Like Bulge To Go Away?
hypersof replied to bridgetm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
this could definitely be a cc issue. hang in there...and let us know if it gets better when you avoid the cafeteria! I feel like, apart from the cc, it is still normal to have ups and downs -part of the healing process... (depends also on how long you have been gluten-free?) Sophie -
ARCHIVED How Long For That Brick-Like Bulge To Go Away?
hypersof replied to bridgetm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi there Just to add my two cents. I am 6 weeks into the diet, and at times I wondered, too...and I realised recently that, although the "brick" is still coming and going, it is less and less present compared to what it was before -and the swelling is less extreme/ painful (except for accidental glutening!) Do you have a food/ symptoms diary? that... -
hi there, great advice again and actually, I just had the same idea than the "mass email": since my arrival in the US, I got a blog where I post some news for my family & friends...so a few days ago I posted a message there (explaining the basics of celiac disease, and cc) I am glad to hear your positive experience about this kind of thing...
