  1. I think I was a silent celiac person. For 36-years I ate whatever and whenever I wanted. I had a few small bouts of stomach issues or the big D but nothing too frequent. Then a case of food poisoning hit me last August and everything came to a boil as they say. I feel that Gluten is harmful to a celiac disease patient no matter what the reactions/symptoms...
  2. Wandering Hermit, Welcome aboard! My story is similar to yours in that my celiac disease kicked into gear after a bout of food poisoning. Before that I never really had any problems at all. Well, it took the Dr's 4-months to figure out what was ailing me and after a positive endoscopy and positive blood test here I am. I know celiac disease...

Welcome aboard! I'll repeat what others have said here and that is it takes time to heal. Patience is the key. The damage that we all have did not pop-up over night so the healing process is going to take time. An alternative to the liquid vitamins is juicing. I drink an apple/celery/carrot juice mix that we make about 3x per week. You can juice...
  4. We all know your frustration and can simpathize. It's no fun waking up each morning not knowing how you are going to feel that day. The only thing you can do for yourself is to watch what you eat and let time hopefully heal you. I was told by a celiac disease veteran that you can't measure the effects in days or even weeks but, over time you should notice...
  5. Thanksgiving weekend (before I was diagnosed with celiac disease) I was at Church and had to leave because I felt like I was going to pass-out. This was after 3-days of eating stuffing, rolls, turkey sandwiches, pumpkin pie, etc (Basically it was a Gluten Fest). Thankfully I haven't had this happen since I was diagnosed. Hang In There! 6. I think gluten withdrawal is real. Your body gets used to living a certain way and then all -of-a-sudden things have changed. It took me about 2-months after going gluten-free that I finally started to feel somewhat better and I'm still not 100% (3-1/2 now months gluten-free). Also, I think it takes time to get used to eating some new foods that you never...
  7. I live in the Cleveland area and am currently being treated by a CCF physician. Her name is Dr. Michelle Inkster and she is a gastro-specialist out at the CCF Independence branch. Dr. Inkster was the one performed the endoscopy on me and who diagnosed me with celiac disease (after 4-months of being treated by a PHP at the Clinic). Best of luck.....Cleveland...
  8. There is a restaurant up in Kapalua (I forget the name, sorry) that is well known for its Sushi. Sushi is safe as they use rice wine vinegar, seaweed, rice and fish rolled up. If you go after 10pm then everything is half price! I'm sure if you ask a local in the area they will know which place I am referring to. Best of Luck! Cleveland Bob
  9. Excellent letter! Let's hope it sparks some interest/publicity on celiac disease. A few weeks back I wrote to the food network about doing a show on Gluten-Free cooking. Specifically, I emailed the Emeril Live show as I like to watch it and other Food Network shows. I said pretty much the same thing that 1 out-of 133 American's has Celiac but yet most...
  10. Just guessing here but it could be a condition known as Barrets Esophagus. This condition is tied to GERD or Acid Reflux Disease and causes a narrowing of the Esophagus. I don't know what else you could do but continue to chew your food as well as possible. Best of Luck Cleveland Bob
  11. When I go on business trips I get the hotel to put a mini-fridge in my room (if one isn't already included) and I visit the local health food store. That way I stock-up on safe foods to eat. When dining out remember to ask a lot of questions. Do the mashed potato's include chicken broth? Do crutons or garlic bread come on the salad? If you are diligent...
  12. I went to the doctor last week for a check-up and told him about some anxiety/panic attacks I have suffered over the past 7-months and he gave me a prescription for 5mg of Lexapro. Does anybody take this? Can you please reply with good or bad before I start taking another medication. Thanks! Cleveland Bob
  13. It's not uncommon to have some undigested food in your stool. I have noticed some of the same things especially when your talking about nuts. I eat a lot of raw almonds and notice them just as you describe. Corn and peas are another wonderful surprise in the bowl. remember, your intestine's are healing and until they do you will have some foods passing through...
  14. You might wish to try a product I have used in the past.....Dr. Schulze's Intestinal Formula #1. Dr. Schulze is an alternative medicine doctor who created a variety of medicinal formulas to purge your system of toxins, etc. The Intestinal Formula capsul is taken with your largest meal (most likely dinner) and will improve digestion, relieve gas, cramps...
  15. Welcome Aboard 12bGF! This message forum can be very theraputic in that answers to your questions can be found, as well as advice from true celiac disease veterans. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Dealing with celiac disease can be frustrating as we all have found out. Some days are good and others not so good. Keep your chin-up and get yourself well...
  16. Great question! I will be interested to see the results as everyone is different. I didn't vote because I am still healing. I have been gluten-free for the past 3-months and have noticed that I am feeling a bit better (everytime I say that something happens to set me back ) these past 3-weeks or so. Anyways, all anyone can do is to take each day as...
  17. Can any please relate a gluten-free Corned Beef brand so I can uphold my tradition of enjoying corned beef & cabbage on St. Patrick's Day? Thanks! Cleveland Bob
  18. My goals here are to boost my energy and make sure my body is getting the vitamins/minerals it needs. I would like to gain a little bit of weight back just to prove that I can as I lost 20-pounds before being diagnosed with celiac disease. Thanks for your input. Cleveland Bob
  19. Here is what I take: * Aloe Extract in my morning juice. * Garlic (Antioxidant) * Magnesium (Good For The Heart) * Calcium (Good For The Heart & Bones) * Multi Vitamin * CoQ10 (Antioxidant & Good For The Heart) * Fish Oil (Omega 3 Fatty Acids = Great For The Heart) * Food Enzymes w/ meals * Melatonin (Before Bed = Helps Sleep...
  20. Can anybody please tell me if they drink the Boost Energy Drink and do they see any real results? I tried the Strawberry drink today and it taste okay but I'm curious if it really works or am I throwing my money away? Thanks! Cleveland Bob
  21. I have gas/belching with my celiac disease and it's not much fun. I was told that I have gastritis in the stomach (diagnosed from my endoscopy test) and it seems like it varies in severity depending upon how much stress I have and what I eat. Try to watch both is the only advice I can offer. Mine has been better the last few weeks as I am done with the traveling...
  22. Well, I can't speak for being vegetarian but, I am a new celiac disease patient and I definitely have gone thru withdrawal after going gluten-free. I didn't see any improvements in how I felt until I hit the 2-month mark and I still have a ways to go. Everything I have read here says you need to be patient as the damage in our bodies takes a long time to...
  23. I've been gluten-free for the past 11-weeks and for the first 8 of those weeks I felt as though my symptoms were worse, too. I really wasn't feeling any better and It can be frustrating. The past 3-weeks I have been felling better but not still not perfect/normal. I still have symptoms only they aren't as severe. I've also been able to take small amounts...
  24. Congratulations....And hopefully you will have many more celiac disease anniversaries to come! Cleveland Bob
  25. I am somewhat similar in that before I was diagnosed with celiac disease I could eat pasta or other gluteneous food and feel fine. The next day I would eat the pasta, etc. for lunch at work and then feel lousy. It was always the second day that got me. Now that I have been diagnosed I have been gluten-free for the past 2-months. It just isn't worth...
