ARCHIVED Looking For Cheesy Potato RecipeBlack Sheep replied to farmwife67's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips When I read the first post on this thread, I was going to respond with my "recipe" for "Cream of..." soups, but this is better! I usually use organic chicken and beef broth, that's g.f. and comes in a box....Pacific foods? But I didn't think to use any butter in it, that's a good idea. Now for cream of mushroom soup, I use the boxed Creamy Portobello...

ARCHIVED German Puffy PancakeBlack Sheep replied to halfrunner's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Mmmm, that sounds so good! O.k., a couple of questions: How does the pancake get "puffy" without any leavening? Not that it really matters, I suppose...just curious on that one. My other question is a bit more important--do you know if potato, tapioca, and corn starches are all interchangeable, in any recipe that calls for one or the other? This would...

ARCHIVED Anyone Know Anything About Avocado Allergies?Black Sheep replied to Black Sheep's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut Thanks everyone! I saw my doc last week, as it had been exactly 1 mo. since I went g.f., and she wants to test me for food allergies and leaky gut. Unfortunately, I'm uninsured so this will have to wait a few weeks, but.....It's like on the one hand, I'm kind of anxious to have it done, because I want to know it there's anything out there other than...

ARCHIVED Completely DisappointedBlack Sheep replied to newgfcali's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips I agree with the other, the G.F. Goddess is a great site....I was reading that site even before my diagnosis! Another couple of good recipe sites are: Open Original Shared Link So far, I've made the g.f. beer bread, the millet bread, and the pizza crust. All were amazingly good! Better than reg. bread and pizza crust, I think because they're so...

ARCHIVED Why Are The Intolerances Growing?Black Sheep replied to Mittens6043's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut I was wondering about that, too! I was wondering why in the world would anyone, but esp. a lab, of all places, call themselves "Lame Advertisement"! My doc has suggested I do the test for food allergies/leaky gut. She says the one test will test for both. She says it will be about $217. Is the "Lame Advertisement" one any cheaper?

ARCHIVED Anyone Know Anything About Avocado Allergies?Black Sheep replied to Black Sheep's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut That's how I feel about avocados! and yes, it was the same chips, and they are g.f.! And since going g.f. I've used them to make nachos (w/out avocado) and I was fine. Plus I've eaten a few of them plain, and I was fine. I thought about all the stuff I put in the guac, too, and it's all stuff I eat all the time and have no problem with--fresh-squeezed lime...

ARCHIVED Very Frustrated!Black Sheep replied to Katie B's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Those were my dr.'s exact words--the gold standard. Yesterday I had my 1 month app't. with her--1 month after having cut gluten from my diet, at her suggestion. I understand your desire for a "firm diagnosis", as I kept going back and forth on this, too, but my problem is, I don't have insurance. Which is why my doc didn't make me get tests! But I asked her...

ARCHIVED Scopes Tomorrow!Black Sheep replied to dermgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Ah, that He is!!! I just saw this, sorry I was too late to pray for you, too, but happy to hear that you survived your ordeal, and with such a great attitude! Even though going g.f. is hard (it's been 1 month for me), it's such a blessing to finally have an answer, 'ya know? I mean, I don't know if gluten is the root of all my health issues, it's way too...

This is probably why she's putting off getting the test done. Part of her probably just doesn't want to know, because then....everything changes. I can empathize with her because I was the same way, and my daughter, who admits she's almost positive she's gluten intolerant, is going through the putting-off-the-test thing, too. I never got the test because...

What site was that, if it's o.k. to ask? The reason I'm asking is, I've noticed a lot of people here were talking about spark people, so I went there and signed up and oh, my...... I dunno....when you have to watch a video demonstration just to navigate a page.....I'm NOT computer-savvy, and that whole place is confusing. I don't want some website's diet...

ARCHIVED I... But... Look, Can Someone Tell Me If This Is A Lot?Black Sheep replied to MagpieWrites's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I wish I could knit! I tried it a couple of years ago and really liked it, but it gave me tennis elbow so bad, that to this day it flares up from time-to-time. I was thinking of trying crocheting but was told that if knitting gave me tennis elbow, so would crocheting. Maybe going g.f. will help.... N. Ohio sounds nice, Magpie! The cost of living...

Ohmygosh! Well, that explains why I suddenly seem to be allergic to avocados! I've been g.f. for 1 month now, and the two times I've eaten them since, they've caused stomach pain that has me doubled-over! I know, I know, "Why would eat them a second time?" The first time I blamed something else, as I simply couldn't imagine something like an avocado...

ARCHIVED What Is Your Daily Diet?Black Sheep replied to Stylo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I bought some LaChoy, which is just o.k.....I didn't know about the Grag's Amino's though! That's good to know! I always saw those bottles in the health food section and wondered what the heck it was.

ARCHIVED Anyone Know Anything About Avocado Allergies?Black Sheep posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut Well now if this isn't strange. For me, that is, since I've never been "allergic" to any food that I know of. All of my life I hated avocados--thought they were slimy, nasty things. It's just been within the last year that started making my own guac, and found I liked it. So every now and then I'll whip some up to have on hand as a healthy snacking alternative...

I was just on the Johnsonville site, as I wanted to know if their brats (well, not beer brats, obviously! ) were g.f. It looked as if most of their products were gluten-free., with exception of course of beer brats, and sausages containing teriyaki-type stuff, etc. Not nearly as good as Redhook brats, but hey--at least I'll be able to eat brats again...

ARCHIVED I... But... Look, Can Someone Tell Me If This Is A Lot?Black Sheep replied to MagpieWrites's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I think that's what freaked me out the most, too. Yikes. I was going to ask, but didn't have time as I had a dr. app't.---has this woman been tested for food allergies? And.....celiac? Wow, what sweet revenge ("Bwaaahahahahah!") that would be if it turned out you weren't the only one who had to give up certain foods and be on some "crazy diet!" No seriously...

ARCHIVED I... But... Look, Can Someone Tell Me If This Is A Lot?Black Sheep replied to MagpieWrites's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Oh dear Lord, that is the understatement of the year! SLIGHTLY insane? This woman RUBBED LOBSTER ON YOUR PLATE?! What the---WOW. She may truly be demon-possessed. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Better yet, move, like you mentioned. Far away. And I agree with the person who said never let your kids be alone with her, once you have them. Ohmygosh, I have one...

ARCHIVED Anybody Out There A Morbidly Obese Celiac?Black Sheep replied to ts1986's topic in Related Issues & Disorders On this site are lists of g.f. foods, and also a list of villains. The links are in the green area on the left of this page: https://www.celiac.com/ That's the only thing I know of, as I'm really new at this, too. Maybe someone else knows of other helpful lists?

ARCHIVED Need To Find A Good gluten-free Pizza Crust RecipeBlack Sheep replied to serenajane's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips I haven't tried this one yet, I just happened to stumble across it yesterday but it looks good! Now here's one I have tried, and it's excellent: Open Original Shared Link She also has a couple of great bread recipes on her site--ones that you can actually make sandwiches out of. YUM!

ARCHIVED Not Doing Well EmotionallyBlack Sheep replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease And g.f. beer. Although at $2 per bottle (and that's the cheap stuff), I am a very light drinker! And I agree with the "chocolate and wine" thing. lol

ARCHIVED New And Feeling Kind Of LostBlack Sheep replied to Legerity's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Sorry I don't know the answer to most of your questions, as I'm so new at this, too. I've been g.f. for just under 1 month now, and I know what you mean about the self-doubt thing, as it's happening to me. Because for almost 2 weeks, nothing happened. Then suddenly, a few of the major health problems I was having started to improve, and I thought, voila!...

ARCHIVED Could Use Your OpinionsBlack Sheep replied to ali11's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I also have found that ginger is very good for nausea. Ali, if you don't like to eat fresh ginger, you can always slice some up and make a tea out of it, even add peppermint, which is also good for nausea. I can't stand peppermint, so I substitute spearmint leaves. Not sure if the spearmint helps or not, but it sure is tasty! Another good way to take ginger...
