  1. I've been a big advocate of the Peanut M&Ms. I have trouble with soy so the regular or PB Ms always get me, but I'm fine with the Peanut M&Ms as long as I have some will-power. They're great on long car rides, kayaking, slow afternoons and study time in the library (after one hour of rewriting and staring at anatomy notes on a white board today, a...
  2. I tested negative for Celiac so I'm not sure how much help administration could give me.
  3. I had to quit drinking energy drinks after my freshman year (I slammed an Amp at least 3 times a week in addition to coffee). I have never been so tempted to drink it again as I am after a glutening, but I know that even while it may help my brain, it will wreak havoc on my stomach. I'll admit to being this close to putting $3 in a vending machine for a shot...
  4. Thank you for your replies! I'll hit the tea today and I'll probably mention it to my professor at class tomorrow. It's not likely that he'll give me an extension, but he might be able to help. I'll look for sublingual B12 next time I'm at the pharmacy; sounds like a good thing to have around just in case. Thanks again!
  5. My stomach is finally feeling better from the weekend fiasco (the old "my stomach only hurts if I press on it") but I'm having trouble concentrating. It's not so much the fogginess that comes with a cold or other illness (I'll liken that to 'groggy') but I just can't get anything to stick in my short-term memory and when I try to focus I end up a little ADD...
  6. I agree; the microwave wouldn't concern me. Although I am always cautious of putting my bread or whatever I'm heating on a napkin or something to keep it from coming into contact with anything that has spilled. Before I was gluten-free I would just toss it in. I have no idea about the nuts, but now I am curious.
  7. Knowing that I made it through this just a few months ago is helping some. That first time I was freaking out, worried that I was dying or something. This time I know the process and what to expect so it's all about looking at the light at the end of the tunnel. And tips from others help too I've never had much luck with Benadryl, but maybe I'll give it...
  8. I found some gluten-free corn dogs at the gluten-free store by my house this summer. S'Better Farms. They're listed on the gluten free mall site: Open Original Shared Link They are more pricey than the regular corn dogs you used to buy, but when you're really craving that corn dog... I used to eat the MN State Fair corn dogs frequently (why go to...
  9. I just took some Tylenol for the gut and a developing headache (stress/tension plus the lack of protein in my diet this weekend... for some reason that always gets to me). I forgot to pick up Pepto when I was stocking up on rice, but I do have some mint tea, cinnamon gum and altoids to get me through til Wednesday when I can go pick some up. Also had to take...
  10. I saw my doctor today and he wasn't too concerned when I told him my symptoms and compared them to my glutening symptoms. I had been worried about pain and inflammation in the region of my pancreas, but he pointed out that it follows along the line of the large intestine. He wanted to order a stool sample just in case, but since the D stopped yesterday morning...
  11. I am now convinced that it is NOT gluten and probably not food poisoning. I have pain in my upper abdomen, pancreas area, and through to my back and my chest. It is worst when I eat or drink something. Even water hurts. I came home from school yesterday and am going to urgent care this afternoon, as soon as my mom gets off work. Thankfully the diarrhea has...
  12. I just found a couple articles on that. Interesting concept. I'll look into it.
  13. Thank you for the tip! Thinking about how I felt when I wasn't taking it, I thought it would be better just to keep taking it... and, hey, it was prescribed by a doctor right? But, it does scare me. And the massive amount of ibuprofen that probably set off my gluten-intolerance was prescribed by a doctor too; that didn't make it a smart idea. I'll definitely...
  14. I had that sudden, unconscious gasp for air also. I didn't realize it could be related until browsing this thread. I had forgotten about it, but now that I think about it, it hasn't happened since I went gluten free. About 6 years ago, right before I started high school, I went to this fitness program where they put me on a stationary bike and tested my oxygen...
  15. When I eat out, it's usually a Friday; it's just more convenient in many ways. Over the summer, when I was unemployed, I was a bit daring at restaurants. I've been back on campus for 4 weeks now and have only eaten out once in that time... and I went back to my hometown to do it at a restaurant I'd already tested a few times. If only I could have...
  16. Glutening is a definite possibility and I'm becoming more and more convinced as the evening wears on. I'm having the same chest tightness and jaw pain I had when I first got sick in the spring. It's just that whenever I accidentally consumed gluten over the summer my symptoms were lower-abdominal pain, maybe a day or two of brain fog, minor diarrhea (sometimes...
  17. Burgers without the bun cooked over charcoal with plenty of seasoned salt for added flavor. Alexia sweet potato fries on the side and some Jack Daniel's BBQ sauce (before I started watching the fructose) drizzled over it all. And, of course, corn on the cob if it was a good day at the farmer's market. Fish tacos are more and more common at my house (my...
  18. I've been feeling a little off all week, but I could always put it down to semiconscious consumption of something containing soy or large amounts of sugar (every once in a while a small amount of soy is a small price to pay for flavor). I was hungry for breakfast Thursday morning and got the ham and eggs from the caf. I wasn't very hungry the rest of the...
  19. I got that same stabbing pain. It started out mild, but the more I ate the worse it got. One time I felt like there was a twisting knife just above my waist line. I cut out all those gluten-free snacks that are loaded with soybeans and by-products like oil, lecithin, etc and noticed a vast improvement. Now I do okay with small amounts like Tostito's tortilla...
  20. That is good to know; thank you! My doctor didn't say anything about that. I'll be more careful next time.
  21. Thank you all for your replies. I can always find some sanity here when nothing makes sense. I am beginning to feel better. I was actually hungry for breakfast today for the first time this week so at least the glutening symptoms are receding. I think I'm going to go back to a morning preventative Prilosec for a while to calm down the reflux problems...
  22. I considered Immodium this morning and found we were out; I will probably pick some up before going back to campus. I'll give Pepto a try too. Another possibility I've been considering is GERD. Sorry if this is TMI but the D is usually very loose and yellowish and seems to occur shortly after eating. I read that this can be attributed to either GERD or...
  23. My mom bought me a new cereal on Monday which looked to be gluten-free (as in no gluten ingredients used), but I saw that it was not expressly labeled gluten-free and contained oat flour. Normally I avoid such things ("Mom, it's all yours; enjoy") but my choices were this cereal (Mother's Cocoa Bumpers), Corn Chex, or a hot breakfast from the stove. I do...
  24. I've had similar problems with my back and knees but they were thought to be caused by 6 surgeries in one knee and the effects compensation and limping on my other knee and lower back. I am only 20, but I often sound like a 90 year old when I stand up. I did notice improvement when I went gluten-free but that coincided with an exceptionally good stretch of...
  25. Eating out gluten-free is not as difficult as gluten-free and soy-free. Noodles & Co is really good about gluten-free and offer quite a few options; however, when I went soy-free my options were narrowed down to their Pad Thai or... well, a choice between the large and small. I've never had a problem there. Chipotle is also easy, thanks to the burrito...
