  1. I don't think that there are any meds that can help a reaction from gluten if you have Celiac Disease. The only treatment is to not have any gluten. Celiac Disease is different from an allergy - it is actually an autoimmune disorder, and as far as research knows so far there is no treatment to stop a reaction. I believe many people on this forum have had...
  2. Oh, also, they do say that illness can trigger Celiac Disease. It sound like you're on the right track.
  3. I think that Celliac Disease is a definet possibility. I would call the doc today and ask for them to call in a blood work up for today so you can take her back off of gluten. She does need to be on gluten to have an accurate test. The other thing I thought of was the possability of Lyme Disease - which can also respond to a gluten free diet. Type Lyme Disease...
  4. This is just a thought, but I had bad chest pain when I was having gallbladder attacks. One of my docs said that people often think they are having heart attacks when they have the chest pain with gall attacks. Another thing is my GI Dr. said he thought I could be having spasm from my reflux which sometimes goes away with gluten-free diet, but sometimes needs...
  5. I have tried a couple of the recipes off of glutenfreegirl and they have been wonderful! I just tried her "blueberry muffins with lemon zest" recipe and they are the best I have ever made - regardless of gluten. You all should try them. I also read her book recently and she is a wonderful writer - very engaging.
  6. I have read in several places (wish I could remember where) as well as been told by a couple of other people that the non-stick coating on pans can absorb and leach gluten into food that is cooked on it whether or not it is scratched. I don't know if this info was 100% correct or not, but I decided to not chance it for us.
  7. Glad they turned out okay. I hope you have a fabulous time at your dinner party! ~Sarah
  8. It could be that they are concerned about cross contamination. I resently found that many companies that package rice and rice products also process and package other grains, meaning often gluten containing grains. I realized that I need to make sure I purchase rice from a gluten free facility. Honestly, the more I find out the more complicated this seems...
  9. The glutenfreegoddess site has mostly diary and egg free recipes and everything I have tried has turned out great. ~Sarah
  10. Oh! I know your pain! gluten-free baking is so totally different than baking with gluten and there is so much trial and error. I have had quite a bit of disasters myself. I haven't tried too many cake recipes, but I just made the Vanilla Cupcake recipe off of glutenfreegoddess.blogspot Here is the link: Open Original Shared Link You should be able to...
  11. Thanks for the book suggestion - I've been wanting some ideas on good books about Celiac.
  12. About the cross contamination thing. Here's my theory: washing dishes with gluten particles on them in the same water/dishwasher as dishes that will be used for gluten free meals may leave traces of gluten on all dishes. I noticed the other day that sometimes my dishes come out of the dishwasher with specks or crumbs on them and although I rewash those dishes...
  13. According to my Natural Practitioner, the liver can, and usually does have some struggles with any health problem. It can definitely get back to functioning well after you figure out the cause of the health problems. So, try not to worry too much before you talk to the doctor - I know... it's almost impossible to not worry about your child when their health...
  14. Yes. That is one of the few symptoms that has gone away for me since I started the gluten free diet. I hope that you really are done with Restless Leg Syndrome. It is quite frustrating to put up with.
  15. I have had a similar experience. I was diagnosed with celiac in November. Very little changed with my diet change even though I have been very strict. I ended up having emergency surgery to have my gallbladder removed in Febuary. Some of your symptoms sound very much like what can commonly happen when the gallbladder is struggling. I believe that there is...
  16. Hi KimK, I just wanted to tell you that you could be having gallbladder problems. I had intense pain and vomiting about once a month for 2 years (with a few breaks here and there) and finally found out it was gallbladder attacks. I had stones in my gallbladder by the time they took it out, but I don't know if I started with them or not. My Dr. said that sometimes...
