  1. I'm curious... What is the SIBO diet? And are you on it because of things you can't eat along with gluten? I'm glad you are feeling better and I hope that it continues, but not the hungry part... of course. ~Sarah
  2. Thanks for the reply Streetlegal. What were your symptoms (other than D, of course) for having micro colitis and what do you do to treat it? If you aren't comfortable responding don't worry about it... I'm just curious to know if I'm having symptoms of this as well. I'll be looking it up some time, I think I actually looked it up before, I just don't remember...
  3. Hey Streetlegal, the colitis is one thing I haven't looked into very much. What made you or your doc think of it? I'll have to check it out. I would have my antibody levels checked, but I'm just not sure if it would really work very well because I only had the biopsy and didn't have any blood work so there isn't really a reference point. Not long after...
  4. You should come back here and post how it goes so I can hear. Hope you get some answers soon! ~Sarah
  5. Chakra2, thanks for the advice! About the soy and corn, I have cut both of those out of my diet as well, I just wasn't very specific in my list. The corn I was counting in the grain column and the soy in the legume column - so yeah, they are a problem for me too. About the natural healing, I actually am working with a Natural Practitioner who specializes...
  6. I just wanted to let whoever know that the white chocolate that Starbucks uses has dairy in it. When I was off of dairy I asked to read the ingredients and low and behold - there it was - the main ingredients (besides sugar) were diary. That could have been what you reacted to, pixespirit. One other thing though, is that if you go to a Starbucks...
  7. Thanks for replying, adab8ca. It actually doesn't discourage me to hear that it might take a year or more, I am looking for just that sort of thing. So far I don't think I have read of any one personally taking this long to start to feel better. Some people say they took a "long" time at 6 to 8 months, but I have yet to hear of someone taking longer than...
  8. Has anyone else experienced still feeling sick after being off of gluten for more than 10 months? I am very careful about CC. All my cleaning products are gluten-free, as well as toiletries. I don't eat out and I don't eat any packaged products, just whole foods. I have found many other foods that I have problems with as well including: ~nightshades...
  9. I have made a very similar recipe that used honey and it turned out good too. I haven't yet tried to sub it in this particular recipe, but I think it might work just fine. I'm not sure about the splenda. I know that things turn out a little different when cooking with it, but I have never used it myself. By the way - enjoy your mixer! They are awesome...
  10. I have used Bob's Red Mill All purpose flour mix as well as mixing up the flour suggestion in the recipe (which I think is adapted from the Gluten Free Gourmet). I usually sub 1-2 cups of brown rice flour and maybe a little sorghum flour with the rest being the alpurpose blend. My mom has used all quinoa and brown rice and had it turn out great. A friend...
  11. If you want to try a recipe, I just use my bread recipe to make hamburger and hot dog buns. I drop the dough on a cookie sheet in the shape that I want and then dip my fingers in water and finish shaping and smooth out the dough. Then I let dough rise like normal and bake. I actually like how the buns/roles turn out even better than the bread, because...
  12. Oh! I just read this. Still sounds promising, but do they say what amount they test for? I'm just curious after the wishy washy info they gave me when I called about the rice tortillas.
  13. Thanks for posting that. I haven't even looked at the english muffins yet. I'm glad to know that they should be a safe thing to eat. I'm kind of impressed that they test them for levels.
  14. If you are sensitive to CC I would call about the english muffins. I called about Food for Life's rice tortillas when two of my kids where having a reaction to something and the answers I got about cross contamination made me decide to not buy their products anymore. They produce their tortillas on shared equipment with wheat and that may also be the case...
  15. I have personally had sever stomach pain and cramping within 10 - 15 minutes of having exposure to gluten. I think some people just feel it quicker than others.
  16. Thanks for sharing this article, Lisa. It was interesting and I think very true. I have learned more from reading everyone's posts and replies on this forum than from any other one place that I have gone to for help and info. ~Sarah
  17. I just wanted to add that there are a lot of natural things you can do if you don't want to try meds. I think that in general medication should be used as a last resort - there is a place for it, but it is much better to try natural things first if you are not in a crisis situation (usually going the natural route take more time). Anyway, you can do...
  18. I'm so sorry to hear that you are feeling this way. I have felt very similar, and it is a very discouraging place to be. Don't give up! You are a very important person and even though you don't feel like it now, you have something to offer to the world that no one else can. I think that the suggestions so far are good ones and worth trying, but I wanted...
  19. Yes I have cut out many other intolerance's, many are the same one that you listed. So far the list includes: gluten, all grains (except just recently trying some brown rice), nightshades, nuts, legumes, winter squash, all meats, citrus fruits, broc/cabbage family, as well as some other fruits and I cannot tolerate much if any onions, garlic, or cilantro...
  20. Lisa, Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. I am very careful too. I don't eat anything packaged or processed other than I just started trying brown rice a little and I have had Tinkyada pasta a couple of times recently. Other than that I only eat whole foods with the exception of Tillamook cheese. Tillamook cheese seems to be safe. I called their company...

    ARCHIVED Go Ask Connie

Hi Connie, I like reading your posts. You always have a little humor in there somewhere. I just wanted to tell you that I have been officially gluten free since November 4th. That was when I went in for my doctor appointment after my endoscopy. He said there was no doubt that I had Celiac Disease. That being said, I have had the worst time with my health...
  22. I really am curious - has anyone come across a mozzarella that might have gluten or be cross contaminated? I have to be really careful. My kids and I are very sensitive to CC. We can't eat anything that has been in a facility that processes gluten foods and even some that just use grains that only would have come into contact at harvesting has caused problems...
  23. I haven't used mozzarella too often since going gluten free, but do some have gluten? I always buy the big bricks or the string cheese for my kids, but I didn't really think that mozzarella would be at a higher risk for having gluten. Non of the ingredients in the ones that I have bought have been anything that I would think of as containing gluten, just...
  24. All your research is interesting. I've had problems with candida too, as well as my 2 year old daughter. My daughter had problems with candida soon after she was born and we would clear up the rash (diaper area) and thrush only to have them come back withing a week or less. I would clear it up by using coconut oil topically most of the time, but once or twice...
  25. Haha... This is making me giggle
