ARCHIVED Found Something For Inflammation
gary'sgirl replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's awesome that you found something to help you! I was wondering if you are still having double vision or any of the other symptoms you were experiencing? Did the nettle tea take care of your remaining problems from having Celiac? I'm so interested to know. -
ARCHIVED A Tmi Question About My Kids'- I Really Need Your Help Please!
gary'sgirl replied to MitziG's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have abdominal pain from C, like you describe. That would be my guess for the pain. I'm sure you have heard this before, but I just wanted to mention it in case you haven't. Many people who are more sensitive to small amounts of CC can't tolerate gluten free Chex. If I remember right they make the gluten free chex on the same equipment as the other... -
ARCHIVED Wild Fermented Foods Health Benefits

Skylark, Your thoughts about the detoxing from probiotics are interesting. I never noticed any detox reactions to probiotic supplements that I took either - even though they were a very high bacteria count. I have however experience "detox" or "die off" from real probiotic foods and drinks. When I first started drinking the Water Kefir, if I drank more... -
ARCHIVED Wild Fermented Foods Health Benefits
gary'sgirl replied to YoloGx's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yolo, you probably already know about this, but just in case you don't, I wanted to mention that all the symptoms you mentioned from eating the fermented foods can also be symptoms of the bad bacteria dying off, and detoxing. I forget about that sometimes when I am having symptoms, so I just wanted to mention it. -

So, will you stay on a modified GAPS diet once you find out if you are sensitive to amines or salicylates? -

Did you feel better after doing the SCD diet? I was on the SCD for a year and I did not improve. I've been trying to figure out what to try next, which is why I am doing all of the fermenting. But I'm interested to hear if it worked for you. -

I read a lot about both of the suppliers practices and what they use to grow their cultures and felt pretty confident that they are safe. I didn't have a problem with the water kefir, and I, like you are very sensitive to the smallest amounts of gluten CC. But I can't say for sure that we are on the same level of sensitivity, so if you feel it could be a... -

The kombucha and milk kefir that I just order was from this site: Open Original Shared Link. I haven't tried anything else from this site, but from looking around it seemed like a good place to order organic cultures that were not dehydrated. I tried some of the dehydrated cultures from Cultures for Health, but they are a lot harder to get going than live... -

I've been making water kefir for about three months now, it's also known as homemade soda. We love it around here! Even my kids love it - I was so happy to find a probiotic drink that my kids would like. I really think that since I started drinking this on a regular basis it is helping me - which is saying a lot, because I have tried a ton of things... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Nail Polish Remover?
gary'sgirl replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Gemini, After reading your reply to what I wrote I went back and read through what I said, and I realize that I wasn't very clear with the words that I chose. It sounded like I said that other people with Celiac are not careful(I shouldn't have used the word "careful") about not ingesting gluten. I'm sorry, that was not what I meant to say at all. ... -
ARCHIVED Brazilian cheese bread with a Utah twist - Salt Lake Tribune (blog)
gary'sgirl replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Hmmm, I think I must be missing something, but I didn't see any mention of the bread being gluten free in the article. - Then again I have been known to totally not see something that is right in front of me before. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Nail Polish Remover?
gary'sgirl replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Wintersong, I don't know whether or not there could be gluten in nail polish remover. I only recently found out that there could be trace amounts of gluten in some nail polishes, so I decided to just stop using any for now. I just wanted to encourage you that even though some people may not think that you have to be careful of topical gluten, I... -

Hi all! I was reading through all the posts over the past few days and saw all the suggestions for looking into low B12. I read a couple of different articles over the past couple of years that said if you supplement with folic acid (B9) it will throw off your blood tests for levels of vitamin B12 making the levels look higher than they really are... -
ARCHIVED Sugar Malabsorption In Toddler
gary'sgirl replied to anna34's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What type of sugar was the problem, or was it all types? I know that some people have problems with cane sugar. I'm not sure if it's and intolerance or if it's an allergic reaction that people usually get with that. Two of my kids and I have fructose malabsorption, which is like an intolerance (kind of anyway). We went on the FODMAP diet (along... -
ARCHIVED Sugar Malabsorption In Toddler
gary'sgirl replied to anna34's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I may have missed something, but I can't figure out why you think he has malabsorption of sugar from what you wrote. Did your son have a test that suggested that he is not absorbing or digesting sugars? One thing that is somewhat common in people with celiac is to have fructose malabsorption. Could this be what you are asking about? Fructose is... -
It does really feel that way. This health problem has been life altering for my family and I. Not all bad though. Hope you feel better about things soon.

do you fill the bottom of the pan pretty full? If you do it might be that there are just too many kernels to fully pop them all. That's what our problem was when we were getting too many kernels in ours. We use Jolly Time organic popcorn too.

ARCHIVED Fructose Malabsorption
gary'sgirl replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I just thought of another way to help your hernia. If you can find a really good chiropractor, they should be able to put the hernia back in place and show you ways to help it stay where it should. -
ARCHIVED Looking For Sub For Xanthan Gum
gary'sgirl replied to AVR1962's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Irishheart, I read some about gums and carageenan a little over a year ago and though I can't remember all of the details I remember thinking that I didn't want to use that stuff ever again I went on the SCD diet for a while and in the book (or the web site - I can't remember) it talked a little about why it was irritating to the damaged gut. I'm... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Sub For Xanthan Gum
gary'sgirl replied to AVR1962's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Marilyn, I mostly use almond flour and coconut flour for baking now. The taste and the texture you get from using these flours are so much better than any I was able to get using all the other flours that they are pretty much all I use now. If you use coconut flour, you have to follow special recipes designed for coconut flour because it is very... -
ARCHIVED Baby With Gluten Intolerance?
gary'sgirl replied to Amaya'sMama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think this poster must mean an allergy to wheat, because I don't think there is such a thing as an allergy to gluten, only sensitivity/intolerance or Celiac disease. Also, it would not be very beneficial for you to get a blood test as this poster suggests, because it would not be valid if you are not eating gluten, and you of course don't want to eat... -
ARCHIVED What Did You Think Was Gluten Cc When It Actully Wasn't
gary'sgirl replied to T.H.'s topic in Super Sensitive People
It kind of sounds like you could be having some trouble with fructose. You should check into it and see if it makes sense with the foods you know you have trouble with. -
ARCHIVED Fructose Malabsorption
gary'sgirl replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I just found out that my recent problems with reflux have been from having the hiatal hernia, so by no means am I an expert in what to do, because I am just going down that road for myself. But, my mom and one of my sisters have been dealing with it for a long time now and they are able to pull it out by massaging in a downward motion to the left of the sternum... -
ARCHIVED Fructose Malabsorption
gary'sgirl replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Just a quick thought... Most of the symptoms you describe can be caused by your hiatal hernia too. I've been dealing with acid reflux for a long time and the worst reflux pain I experienced was from my hiatal hernia. Hope you feel better soon!
