  1. My daughter always gets the dark sunken eyes when she has gluten. And I just wanted to mention that my kids don't always have the exact same reaction when they get gluten. Sometimes it's a little different than the last. I don't know if it has to do with how much or if the body just responds differently the more we get exposed. Plus, it always seems...
  2. When I read this just now it jogged my memory. A couple of months ago I noticed my son was eating something and I hadn't given him anything to eat. I went to see what it was and... AHHH! GLUTEN! He had somehow found a multi grain pretzel (a kind that we had eaten before going gluten free). I have no idea what happened, but we think that although we cleaned...
  3. It could be CC that built up in your system over time. Is it the Ancient grains quinoa? If you look up their site you can verify this, but I was having trouble with all quinoa products and I decided to see if there was a risk of CC from that company. If I remember correctly all of their products were safe except the flake which could possibly be CC'd because...
  4. Quinoa is definitely a problem for me too.
  5. This same thing happened with my daughter and my son. I noticed blood in my daughters diapers at about 5 months and I think around 6 weeks for my son. We had the same problems with the doctors - exactly the same. My ped. thought it was a dairy and/or soy problem, but I went off of those for 8 months with no improvement (I was nursing her at the time...
  6. Thanks for the suggestions GFinDC. I think I ruled out most of those things, but I probably should double check the supplements in case there is one I missed (I do take quite a few), but I think I called most of the companies already. I better go check...
  7. Mushroom, I'm curious... why can't you take the sublinguals?
  8. Mushroom, reading this brought tears to my eyes - it made me think again of how many people are suffering and have suffered and I am so thankful for the people, like you , who are willing to be there for some one in need. I totally agree - this forum is a Godsend. I have learned so much here and been encouraged by so many - even just reading other...
  9. I was diagnosed through biopsy with Celiac 10 months ago. The damage was bad enough that it still showed up after being pretty much gluten free for six weeks prior to the endoscopy. I didn't realize that I had digestive issues, because I was so used to them that I thought it was normal. Most of my symptoms though - and the worst of them - are neurological...
  10. I think Tom's of Maine is safe. I called about their toothpaste a couple of months ago, and I am pretty sure that they said the only products that they make with gluten were a couple of their shampoos, but you should call to make sure. It was really easy to get a hold of them and they answered everything as though they were familiar with it. Let us know...
  11. It looks like no one has been on this thread for a while, but I was hoping that maybe some of you who have tried the SCD would tell your story. That is if it worked for you or not and if you have any advice about it. I am going to buy the book today and I think this is the most hopeful thing I have come across since I have not had any improvement from...
  12. I think Lara Bars are free of all those things. I would go to their web site and check it out. I haven't had them yet, but I have read that a lot of people like them and they seem to be a good company.
  13. Tori, I totally hear you on the not being understood part - it leave us feeling really alone, not only are we sick, but people act like it is no big deal. It's hard, really hard. One thing that helps me is to remember that I don't want others to experience this and unless they do they really can't understand what it is like to be alive, but feel like you...
  14. Hi Keshav, I am sorry to hear that your numbers are rising even though you have been on a gluten free diet. I went to the thread you started and read it, I don't have enough experience to know what all of the test result mean, but keep pursuing it. So are you still having symptoms? It would seem that if something is wrong you would be displaying symptoms...
  15. SheriB, you know, the iron thing could be a bit of the problem. Iron was one of the things that the docs didn't test for. It seems like something that would be pretty standard to test for in my thinking. I think I'm going to go to a general practitioner and see if they will do some of these tests that I couldn't get the specialists to do - a GP seems to...
  16. Thanks for sharing Korwyn. I will have to recheck all of my cleaning products etc... for soy. I know that I am not getting it in food because I have not been eating any packaged products at all for several months, but I can't remember if I remembered to check all other products. I know that most of what I use is soy free, but now I am second guessing myself...
  17. I have called several companies (including Bryers, Tillamook, Haagendaz) about the risk of CC in the non gluten containing ice creams. The answer I got from all of them was that they couldn't guarantee that there wouldn't be any CC, because all of the ice creams are produced on the same equipment.
  18. Lucia, I replied to your thread about the SIBO diet. I really think that could be the next thing I need to do. If you have any info you could share about how to go about the diet I would really appreciate it. I also think that the acupuncture would be a good thing to try. I just may need to save up for it at this point.
  19. We are moving into a new apartment in a couple of weeks and the carpets are supposed to be cleaned really well, so in the hopes of keeping the new place as free of gluten as possible we thought we better not move the contaminated couches in. It's a good idea to get them recovered rather than new, except ours happen to be very old and I don't think it would...
  20. Those are all things I'm saying often too! Especially my one year old hears those phrases, but he doesn't listen much.
  21. Lucia, where did you find out what to eat for this diet? I have been looking up a lot about it, but can't find too many specifics on what is best to eat and for how long you should be on the diet to ensure things have gotten back to normal. Also, how long had you been on the diet when you started to notice improvement? I think that this may be part...
  22. The potato flour was definitely the cause of the problem. It will absorb moisture and cause a very dry dough if there is too much in the dough. If a recipe calls for potato flour it usually only uses a tablespoon or less, which can help with the texture. I'm sure the recipe meant starch and not flour, but I agree that the way it was worded made it sound confusing...
  23. Dilettaantesteph, yeah... any measures to enshure no poop will be running down the leg is worth it! Thanks for sharing. I think that my kids and I may be aomw of those who are supper sensitive to trace gluten as well. That being said, what do you think of the possibility of getting gluten from old carpet and couches/apolstery that had gluten being dropped...
  24. gf_soph, no worries about the post being long. I really appreciate you (and all the others ) taking the time to share your story and knowledge with me. I haven't heard specifically about the chemicals in specific foods before. Is it chemicals that occur naturally in the foods or is it pesticides or some such thing? My sister has multiple chemical syndrome...
