  1. We are based in Georgia right now, but waiting for a PCS when my husbands platform changes. He deploys to Iraq and is Air Force as well. Unfortunately, they DO let them go off base at pretty much every base. My husband has brought back all kinds of odd pictures and little presents for the kid. He will be headed to Afghanistan next year which complicates...
  2. Some people, I swear! I hate that some celiacs are asymptomatic because they truly believe they can continue to eat wheat with "no problems". Ugh.
  3. I wish we had a whole foods nearby
  4. If you have DH you have celiac. DH only comes with celiac. I hope you feel better!!!
  5. I feel terrible if I get stressed out, AND I felt worse after coming back from the beach. It's possible that you are getting tiny cc's and they add up to a big reaction? I love that you are taking the precautions with doing the dishes, I would too! Just give it time, I am finally not having constant pain in my side, 4 months after going gluten-free...
  6. You guys are braver than I am! I have yet to have ANY type of thing like that...I'm a chicken (oops I made a joke too hahaha )
  7. Tough love: If you want to get better, you have to stop eating wheat. Simple fact. Not so tough love: It's hard to give it up! Especially when it's always around. You have to want to feel better (and I promise once you feel better you won't WANT to eat that stuff anymore). I hope it gets easier for you!!
  8. I totally understand the deployment issue, mine is about to deploy again. I have considered going to stay with family but 1)no one has room for us, and 2) I have a house/school/dog/cats and I love my independence. Also, the food thing played into it- constantly being cc'd is NOT my idea of fun lol. I hope you find a solution, and tell your daughter to...

    ARCHIVED Omg!

I'm so sorry! It's never fun to be like that. I hope it gets better
  10. SO true. I think this was more referring to grill grates and the like. I dunno. I personally still would not eat it.
  11. Thats what I did, my toddler eats completely gluten-free when he is at home, the school tries to keep hi gluten-free with the food I send but occasionally he slips through the cracks by asking for a snack. It cut down majorly on my CC's and the toddler seems much happier AND healthier. It's a little more expensive but I am not always wondering why I am sick...
  12. I do believe it is 650 F but I am not entirely sure
  13. Well for me it was the fear of having a reaction in public (we didn't know what was wrong with me yet or how to prevent it) and my baby being left to fend for himself. My husband deploys a lot so there was no safety net with a spouse coming to rescue me/him.
  14. Thanks guys. I talked to one of my friends who is a pediatric nurse and she said I was doing all right with giving him one vitamin in the morning. The bottle says two but I thought that was overkill.
  15. Depending on how much gluten you get I do think you can have different reactions. If I ate a piece of wheat bread, I would feel horrible immediately. But if I used the same colander to rinse my pasta or got CC'd with a spoon, It would take a little longer. Soy sauce? Instant bathroom run. CC'd gluten-free crackers? Takes me a few days. I have to say...
  16. Yes!!! EVERY CRUMB MATTERS!!! I get constipation followed by D after a few days when I get glutened. You need a separate toaster, and to watch out for cross contamination. You can get sick from one tiny crumb. I have gotten sick from my toddler before, he had a graham cracker at playgroup and then took a bite of my lunch when he got home. It was an eye...
  17. well HE doesn't have celiac or an intolerance that we know of yet. He is accustomed to eating gluten-free though because of me. I do let him eat "normal" snacks at playgroup but he usually comes to me and asks for MY snacks instead. The lil kid vitamins I got him are made specifically for toddlers and they're gluten-free and natural, basically just...
  18. The nurse at the pediatricians office suggested giving my kid an immune supplement and acidophilous (I spelled that wrong, sorry lol) supplement since he has never been around other kids before in a school type setting. I'm wondering if I should give them to him with food? Is it even worth my time? I want to keep him from catching everything if I can or...
  19. I know it's hard. I LOVE LOVE LOVE food, I love to cook, I love to try new things...and now I can't. WHen I go to spouse socials I bring my own wine and my own food. I pack a picnic. THIS base is used to it now, but when we PCS I get to start the explanations all over again. It stresses me out to think that not only am I going to have to get my son settled...
  20. Oh my goodness I just had this conversation with my sons school! They said "well we gave him cheerios for snack"...When I said that they were not safe and he had to have chex instead, the administrator told me that I was overreacting!! After taking it to the owner, I got a letter of apology, a discount, and the promise that it will not happen again. It's...
  21. UGH so sorry you have to handle this! What a pain in the butt. I would definitely bring your own food. Everyone else can kiss it because it because THEY won't get sick from the food. Do what you have to to make it safe for you and your daughter. ((hugs))!!!
  22. WOOHOOOOO!!!! This kicks off "Birfday Hanukkah" for me, my mom celebrates it a whole week, and my Jewish grandmother hopped on board and named it lol. This is wxactly what I was singing as I was replying!! hahahaha we ended up having to watch the episode because my 2 year old was so excited over the song. Yo Gabba Gabba FOR THE WIN!!!
  23. OMG someone tweeted me today and said "Fiber is good for you, you need to eat more wheat!" NO I DON'T!!
  24. OOOH I feel your pain! Here's one of my "punch the idiot" moments: wife at spouse social: "Here, I'll just make you some toast and you can eat that. That's what I eat when I have an upset stomach" me: "I don't have an upset stomach, and I won't have one as long as I don't eat anything with flour. Like bread." her: "but...it's bread. There's NOTHING...
  25. I am going to be baking my own bday cake for my bday on Thursday and I am glad I ran across this!! It'll help me with the times lol. YAY for good gluten-free cupcakes/cakes!!
