  1. Oh yes! In fact, I just went back to the GI dr. today to see if it was something I was eating. I never had stomach issues before - now it is worse than ever, started feeling very, very tired again and I feel nauseous. He prescribed Align digestive enzymes, 2 fiber pills a day, and to take out creamy sauces, raw vegetables and salads, no alcohol and my...
  2. I was told to gain weight when I was diagnosed with Celiac in April. It took a few months for me to gain 10 lbs. It was alot of work - I had to consume 3000 calories a day and it finally started happening. I couldn't eat like that forever and had to stop - I felt sick, not GI sick, but full-never-want-to-eat-again sick. And I didn't eat junk food - wanted...
  3. Thanks everyone for your support and suggestions!! Hopefully the comments I receive will die down now that the "newness" has worn off for them. I would just like to honestly tell them how hard being gluten free really is, constantly on alert and analyzing EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth. It's enough to make a lil' girl tired! But I usually just say...
  4. I need some witty, snide, smart or funny remarks to say to people when they say, "It could be worse" when I tell them I have Celiac Disease. Yes, of course it could. A few months ago we all thought I had cancer. Of course I am happy that was a misdiagnosis, but I would love for people to go gluten-free for 1 month and tell me how grateful and happy they...
  5. Hang in there, merbear! I, too had no symptoms that were typical. I had chronic anemia, not fixed by iron infusions and then they diagnosed me with lymphoma. Not accepting that diagnosis I demanded the Celiac test, even though I didn't react to gluten the normal way. My body was reacting actually, just in the form mimicking lymphoma. Anyway, I started...
  6. I hear ya, Vbecton! I look at people in a new light now - those free to choose whatever they want to eat. I feel like a scientist analyzing everything that goes into my mouth and recording results. Like this afternoon - I was feeling good. Had a bunch (small bunch) of red seedless grapes and WHAM! gas, bloating, totally wiped out! What is that? If...
  7. Ugh! As if it's not bad enough to learn a new lifestyle, you have to deal with stubborn people. I am sorry to hear about your boyfriend's mom. Maybe loan her a book. I gave my mom a good one: Healthier Without Wheat. I don't know who wrote it, but it had alot of good information. Not diet and recipes, but information about gluten and what it does to...
  8. Thank you, thank you for everyone who replied to Dana. I am in the same boat, too and the posts have lots of great information. I have a question though. While on this food journey I have been trying to stay 'whole foods' and not use stuff with lots of chemicals and such. Is the diary alternatives usually free from those? I know nothing about tofu and...
  9. Lori2 - I was thinking the same thing as I am trying to figure out my worsening issues. This is a good question. To think that gluten free flours are the source of my problems bewilders me - must investigate! Thank you for that information, not that I enjoyed reading it! Wendi
  10. MommyStina - bring your own food and stay healthy! I'm sorry your family is so caught up in the wedding to not think of others. There are probably many people coming to the wedding that have other allergies and issues, too. I'm sorry for all those, but it is getting harder and harder to accomodate a large group for meals. This past weekend I helped a...
  11. You are both right - I need to eat clean and fresh. The intestinal biopsy showed a very small amount of villi damage at the very top of my small intestines but most of the intestines looked great. He said it is very rare to diagnose someone Marsh stage 1 but that is what I am. It is interesting because you would think that if I had so little damage done...
  12. GFManna - Yes, I'm in total denial about the dairy - I probably need to cut it out to see if that helps. Is there a test they can do for that to see if a person is? My mom and I have just started baking gluten-free and getting used to this lifestyle change. I hate to throw another monkey in the works! But, I need to put on my big girl pants and deal with...
  13. Tori, hugs to you - it is so hard. I'm so sorry you are having such a life-long struggle. Your story makes me sound like a baby, a rant I just posted. It does feel good to 'get it out' on the forum here and hopefully someone can give you some good advice. I've only been gluten free for 3 months and having more problems than before my diagnosis! ...
  14. I am going to apologize upfront. I normally don't complain. Even though I'm an only child, I normally suck it up and do it. But this gluten free diet SUCKS! Sorry - really am. I know I'm working on little sleep and feeling terrible, but I really need to vent. You guys are here and willing to read. I will spare my family. I have been celiac disease...
  15. Coolclimates - I am not your typical GI Celiac sufferer as well. My symptoms were swollen legs/feet and anemia. I have been on my gluten-free diet for 2 months now and just last week I started to see some energy return. At first I was feeling worse then I started having good moments/bad moments. I guess our bodies are regulating and 'detoxing'. I hope...
  16. I have no physical symptoms of Celiacs as well. The only way we found out was wacky blood work and a crazy CT scan. The only way to tell if I'm healing is through bloodwork and if I eat gluten I'm not gonna heal. Granted, I have only been on this Celiac train for 2 months. But I thought I would share. Have fun with the dietitian. I have one by me...
  17. Hi there and welcome! I'm brand new myself, diagnosed with celiac disease just last month. I have read that everybody reacts differently to going Gluten Free, so maybe this is your body's way of dealing with the lack of gluten. And I have heard that people's healing time is different; some people feel better immediately while others wait months to feel...
  18. Love this thread! I just came from a family birthday lunch and my aunt made the entire meal Gluten Free for me! Nobody minded a bit - actually many couldn't tell/didn't know. But it was nice to partake and not have to worry. My mom has become my personal baker now. She is trying tons of recipes and they are so yummy! It is her mission to help me...
  19. I am so sorry you are going through this. Waiting until they find out what is going on is the worst. It sounds like your GI doctor is your best bet. Hopefully you can get in soon. Did they test you for Crohn's or Diverticulitis when they diagnosed you with Celiac's? An upper endoscopy could tell you tons. Let us know what happens.
  20. Severe pitting edema (swelling of both legs and feet) was the thing that sent me to the doctor 3 months ago. It is what led to my celiac disease diagnosis. But before the actual diagnosis my GP put me on diuretics and that helped alot. I have been gluten free for 3 weeks and haven't taken my diuretics since then and I haven't had as much swelling. They...
  21. After having biopsies taken and a SBFT I'm going to swallow a Pill Cam on Tuesday. Doctor wants to see the damage shown from scans and to make sure there isn't anything else going on along with Celiacs. celiac disease is not a passive disease. I don't have any GI symptoms (just malabsorption) and yet he feels the damage is severe. I'll have to let you...
