  1. I am so glad you had a great Thanksgiving! We did, too. We went to lunch at cousin's house (mom's side) and dinner at aunt's house (dad's side) and my daughter and I did not get sick! Hooray!! AND the best part - we could eat good food WE prepared and brought and weren't forced to eat the dry tasteless turkey that my aunt always makes. I actually think...
  2. This article explains how our ZPizzas local to me do it: Open Original Shared Link I am thankful to Zach and many other Celiac advocates out there that take the time to inform the public and local businesses. And I am thankful for the businesses that are really interested in learning. As I become more knowledgeable and organize resources one day I hope...
  3. My daughter and I eat at Z Pizza and their gluten free pizza is AMAZING! I've watched them make it and the change gloves, put down clean paper on counter, use special pizza slider for that pizza - we've never had any problems. AND - they use organic products for all their ingredients, even the gluten filled pizzas.
  4. Oh My Word! I am so sorry!! I've been gluten-free for 1 1/2 years now and finally adjusted. Yeah - it isn't fair. I mean, why after 10 years is this just now showing up???? God, that is scary and frustrating. For 10 years you have been faithful and diligent and NOW you get other issues? What the heck??? I am soooooo sorry! I can't offer advice...
  5. McDonald's says on their website that the French Fries contain wheat - they use natural beef flavoring that contains wheat starches) Open Original Shared Link (scroll a ways down) We eat happily at Wendy's (chili and baked potatoes and french fries but only if cooked in dedicated fryer -ask) **I just checked Wendy's site and french fries are no longer...
  6. Stay strong Bonnie, but if you need to let loose and vent know we are here! Thinking happy positive thoughts for you and your family. Wendi
  7. Well, you could get a CT scan and see what could be causing abdominal swelling. I had large mesenteric lymph nodes and intestinal wall swelling that caused my tummy bloat. Could be an infection. Any number of things - ask for a CT scan.
  8. I checked my makeup, toothpaste, mouthwash, lipstick and chapstick and body/hand lotion. I did the same for my husband's products. BUT, when it came to my hair products I couldn't give up my beloved brands. I keep using them and love them. I did have my one year followup last week and all my Celiac blood test results came back showing declining numbers...
  9. My word Donna! You need a hug. You are still new to gluten free and it is a huge lifestyle change. It took me a good year and a half to be emotionally ok (although I did have a mini-break down the other night because I felt abnormal and different - I HATE pity and I get alot of it from family! Grrrr!). If I were you, if you have a WHole Foods near you...
  10. My next door neighbor has been having issues when she eats eggs - her throat closes up and she vomits. Then she is fine. But every time she gets allergy tested her results say she is not allergic to eggs. Allergy testing can be wrong. The only way to see if you react to soy, dairy or other grains is to eliminate them for a while and then add one back...
  11. I answered Other under symptoms because mine (anemia, weight loss) wasn't listed. 4) I went to 2 specialists - the first one diagnosed me with cancer! 5) It took about 9 months for my iron levels and weight to come back up. It took 18 months to get my Celiac Panel bloodwork numbers back to nearly normal. (still working on that one!)
  12. Hooray for you for getting second opinions!!! Hooray for listening to your body and trusting your instincts!! Boo for cancer!
  13. I have heard corn and soy can cause problems to villi: Open Original Shared Link
  14. I didn't have symptoms that doctors would identify with Celiacs. Edema in left foot, lymph nodes in abdomen swollen, anemia, weight loss. They seriously though I had cancer and were prepping me for chemo! Never had a tummy ache or skin issues. Now that I have been gluten free for 1 and 1/2 years my edema is better, although not gone and I have gained...
  15. I was diagnosed with lymphoma based on bloodwork and CT of abdomen. Everything pointed to that except the biopsy of lymph nodes. It turned out I had Celiacs but the doctors were convinced I had lymphoma some where. They tested and poked and prodded everywhere in my body. They just couldn't believe swollen mesenteric lymph nodes, swelling in my illeum...
  16. For leg cramps I can recommend magnesium - my mom used to suffer for years and tried every trick in the book. Last year she started adding magnesium powder to her breakfast drink and they have gone away. You have to experiment and find the right dosage for your body, but it could work for you, too!

Welcome! When I was diagnosed last year it came as a complete shock - I never had any symptoms at all, they were searching for cancer. And while I didn't have the healing issues that come fast for some and slow for others I did have the emotional and mental issues. You will go through a grieving process, angry one minute and denial the next. Finally,...
  18. I've had these sounds, too. Not often but I know exactly what you are talking about. I will have to take notice when they happen. I just thought they were sounds of a happy, healed gut. I do know it usually happens hours after I have eaten and I know I am a slow-digester so maybe it is moving food along?
  19. I am sorry your nephew hurt your feeling so. That is the saddest part. Let's blame that on wedding nerves and we all have NO idea what his future bride said to him about your message. She might have portrayed the message you left in a less-than-flattering light and he reacted badly to that. I am sorry. If you know the name of the restaurant call ahead...
  20. I cheated on purpose because I didn't believe I had Celiac. It was 9 months after being totally gluten free. I never had any gi symptoms before diagnosis and wasn't sure if I would have them afterwards. Because I was initially diagnosed with lymphoma and then changed to Celiac I was a nervous wreck that I had silent Celiac and would never know if gluten...
  21. If I eat alot of gluten (like a bite of gluten cake) I will throw up in a couple of hours. Then I feel wiped out and tired for a day or two. If I eat a crumb or breath in gluten (it happened at a farm on a windy day - ugh!) I am nauseated but don't throw up. That being said, the farther I get from the day I went gluten free, the more severe my reactions...
  22. I LOVE this one: Adventures of a Gluten Free Mom Open Original Shared Link Enjoy!
  23. When I went to the doctor in the beginning for swollen feet they did a CAT scan and bloodwork. One day later they told me I had lymphoma. I was sent to an oncologist - she told me what type of chemo I would be on, gave me website to get a wig because my hair was going to fall out, and scheduled me for surgery (the lymph nodes that were very swollen were...
  24. I had severe malabsorption when I was diagnosed. I was told to take a multi-vitamin and some calcium. I really did try but kept forgetting. However, my numbers jumped to normal within months just being on the gluten free diet. I am not advocating forgetting the vitamins and supplements though. Just letting you know my experience, or lack thereof, with...
  25. My daughters were tested after we discovered I had celiac disease. One daughter was negative on all counts while the other had the genes but no antibodies. She was having symptoms however. She decided to go gluten free without biopsy (she was only 10) and has felt great ever since! It was a no-brainer for her. I hope your husband can make the decision...
