  1. I found this article and was wondering what your thoughts were? Open Original Shared Link Wendi
  2. We spend $800 - $1000 a month for a family of 4, but that is what we spent before gluten free. 2 of us are Celiacs but mainly we all eat gluten free. I sometimes make 2 different kinds of pancakes, pasta, etc. but with CC and us being so new at this lifestyle, right now it is easier and safer for us to all be gluten free. We are trying to get our...
  3. Very cute!
  4. Finding out what kind of drywall, joint compound, etc. a builder used years ago is impossible. Demolition is going to cause so much dust. What a mess. And my doctor just told me to be extra hyper vigilant as my numbers aren't going down (Celiac blood panel). Any others out there that have been through a remodel? I'm still researching and if I find anything...
  5. Man, that stinks! Hope you feel better soon.
  6. After some basic research I think I'm beginning to panic. After Christmas we are going to be doing some minor renovations (in our kitchen no less!!!!!! ). I started wondering about inhaled gluten and the drywall and joint compound. We are the do-it-yourself type. Even if I wear an OSHA mask, this stuff is going to be ALL OVER MY HOUSE! And my gluten...
  7. I agree, but you have to allow for some grieving. They say the "year of firsts" is the time for adjustments and mourning (talking about losing a loved one, but can be applied to amputees, diabetics, critically ill, etc.). Every first new experience, holiday, social outing as a Celiac is a huge step in becoming that positive person. And even positive people...
  8. I would not contact the uncle because there is no way to control the CC even if they bought gluten free items. The learning curve cooking gluten free is way to high! If you can't bring your own bit of turkey in a ziploc and eat your aunt's sides (bless her!) then fill up on aunt's offerings and have your traditional Thanksgiving Day meal at home, when you...
  9. Thanks everyone. I have my turkey in the freezer and it says Gluten Free on the side. (honeysuckle white). Probably overkill, buy my celiac numbers aren't going down and my doctor and nutritionist said be extra vigilant. NO natural flavorings unless I can verify they are gluten free. And I was just wondering about other meats - it is all a learning process...
  10. While cruising around the forum this morning I was struck by how much comfort this forum provides everyone. Thank you so much to whomever started and maintains this forum for everyone suffering with celiac disease/GI issues. I love this site!!!!! (insert kissy smiley emoticon here) Wendi
  11. I am sorry you aren't gaining your energy back as quickly as you would like. I've been Celiacs for 7 months now (wow! where did that time go?) and it did take me a few of those to absorb all those nutrients and vitamins that I was SO low in! Ask your doctor (or better yet, any experienced one on this forum!) what things you can do to promote faster healing...
  12. I looked but I'm not sure - what does SCD stand for? Thanks.
  13. With all the Turkey Talk lately, I've learned that some/most turkey manufacturers inject natural flavorings and seasonings and broth to enhance the flavor. Some contain gluten. It made me start thinking about our other meats we buy every day. Do they inject flavors and such into our chicken, beef, etc? Has anyone looked into this, before I google? Just...
  14. Love LaraBars, too but the price is huge and the size is small. I just bought a food processor and I'm in the process of making my own. They are easy. Next I'm going to experiment with making my own oatmeal bars. EnviroKids makes a few bars, too as well as Glutino. Is Glutino not safe now? I've been reading about unsafe gluten free foods and I remember...
  15. Welcome Jill! This is a GREAT resource for gluten sensitive folks like us. I am the only Celiac (so far) in my family and it is nice to have a place to come to come vent and celebrate. One thing I have learned in my short 6 months with Celiacs is that everybody's body reacts differently, symptoms range, and healing times vary. AND, doctors don't know...
  16. That is something I need to remember! Lesson learned.
  17. Oh my, this very thing happened to me today!! Went to Jason's Deli and ordered everything to go, we were taking it to my grandmother's to eat with her. I was so excited that they had Udi's bread!!! Ordered our meals, raved about how excited I was, thank everyone for being so nice and drive the 1/2 hour to grandma's. Imagine my total disappointment...
  18. I'm so excited for you - it is nice to have everything gluten-free and not worry. You have a great menu and others have given great ideas. Our Thanksgiving dinner wouldn't be complete without cranberry sauce, pumpkin pies and turkey and stuffing w/ gravy. All new gluten-free this year of course. I'm hoping it will be just as yummy! Have a great...
  19. I didn't do a stool test but he took biopsies during my upper GI. Wouldn't he be able to ID the DNA that way?
  20. I just completed a two week round of antibiotics (Xifaxan 550mg) for my SIBO, but I am still bloated. Have no clue, but just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Oh, and I was tested for Dairy and Fructose Intolerances and they were negative. Upper GI scope showed Gastritis and Esonophilic Esophagitis. Go back to doc on Wednesday for follow...
  21. Hi to the both of you! Starting our gluten free is a huge learning curve and the body goes through crazy things while healing. To the first poster - I had the same nausea and they think it is a small bowel infection, I just completed a two weeks course of antibiotics, which caused more nausea, but hopefully this week we will see improvements. Or it could...
  22. Congratulations to you and your daughter! Love the post saying it's about the event, not the food. I was just saying that to my grandmother regarding Thanksgiving!
  23. Just got back from our big family vacation to the Outer Banks. We rented a beach house and loaded up the car. I was a bit nervous about CC with my grandmother and dad in the kitchen, but my daughter and I did not get glutened one bit!!!! I used the pots and pans there, although I did bring my own cutting boards, can opener and colander. Success! AND...
  24. Just wash your hands ALOT after you feed her and play with her. I also wash after giving my dog his treats (he is a trick dog). Lots of hand washing!!!!!
  25. Wow! Lots of first timers here!! Love the advice and I will definitely be thinking of all my gluten-free friends on these holiday events. Keep the advice coming - I love to read it!
