  1. I would have said one of the following: a. Oh, thank you so much for thinking of me but I am trying to lose weight/borderline diabetic/hypoglycemic/also allergic to milk, soy, etc (whichever one is true or possibly believable for you, LOL all of these are true for me ) b. Thank you for makign the effort, but I have gotten sick far too many times...
  2. I believe Dunkin Donuts says their coffee is gluten free... No way would I ever enter a DD to risk it however....
  3. What have you been eating and did you eliminate all possible sources of cross-contamination-- Old pans, wooden spoons, new toster, etc?
  4. Since about 20% of blood test results are false negatives it wouldn't hurt to put him on a trial gluten free diet and see if any of his symptoms resolve while gluten free. Also, I have read false negatives are higher in children. If you decide to keep him on gluten, just be aware that he can develop a gluten intolerance or celaic at anytime in his life...
  5. I have made this recipe as well using honey in place of the sugar. It comes out like slightly sweet bready cookies. Very good! OP--What do you hope to achieve by baking globs of PB? They will probably just melt into a PB puddle. If you want a solid PB form with nothing but PB as an ingredient you would be better off sticking them in the freezer...
  6. Lemon Pepper chicken, Saffron rice and steamed green beans.
  7. Never read of anyone being bothered by it. I grow it fresh in my herb garden. It's wonderful for adding to dips and things....
  8. The short answer is that it depends on the brand and how it is processed. It also depends somewhat on your friend and how sensitive she is to cross contamination (cc). I am not familiar with that brand as I'm on the opposite sid eof the US from you, however the very first brand of corn meal I bought made me ill when I used it. I contacted the company only...
  9. Oh, boy..so many factors here that could have glutened him: 1. Tomato soup--Most brands have wheat in them. I know Campbell's does. 2. Dropping the noodle in, yeah that did it for sure if the soup was safe... 3. Were all your spices gluten free? 4. Did you use the same strainer that you used for the regular pasta? Even if the strainer was clean...
  10. Ok, that makes sense. That's not a long story at all. So you decided to skip the biopsy right? Just that one meal could have really messed up any progress you made. 1 week is not a very long time. Do be sure to check for all sources of cc--get new toaster, collender, cutting boards (if you have wood or plastic) and even chuck any old non-stick pans.
  11. He said an anaphylactic or hives reaction within 20-30 minutes is consistent with an allergy (specifically IgE reaction) not an intolerance. I still have not gotten the blood test results so maybe they will show somehting the skin prick did not pick up... As far as the delayed reaction to the skin prick (feeling itchy) I did not speak with the doctor...
  12. Patti were any of your intolerance reactions that make your throat close up or gives you hives within 20 minutes? Those are the symptoms I was having when I ate my suspected allergy foods (shellfish, pork, mushrooms, milk).
  13. Thanks, but I already did an elimination diet in January 2010--that's how I figured out gluten was a problem for me. I was not getting these tests because of suspected intolerances, but because of sudden severe reactions to foods I have always eaten without much trouble. I ate some yogurt one day back in february of this year and my tongue swelled up and...
  14. That's what I'm afraid of, but WHY? I did not take any anti-histamines for over a week just as they directed me. The doctor said that the skin prick test had a high rate of false positives and very few false negatives. After I left I realized that was the reverse of gluten testing which has a lot of false negative and few false positves. Was he correct...
  15. Nope, not a single one puffed up except the control. They did itch like crazy though! It was torture sitting there waiting for somehting to happen. Now I have little red bumps all over my upper arms, back and neck. I'm sure this is some type of allergic reaction. I called the allegist's office and all they told me is to take some Benedryl.
  16. I don't know if I have DH because I never got any testing. I did see a dermotologist years ago (prior to suspecting gluten issues) about the rash and she didn't know what it was! She didn't take biopsies or suggest DH or anything. She just gave me creams and antibiotics that didn't do a darn thing. I know I probably should try to get into see a new dermotologist...
  17. I know...I feel so dumb. They didn't really even explain the testing to me. I should have asked if it went into the blood supply. I was just really hoping I could get a positive allergy result since I have broken out in hives from wheat germ oil in the past. My main thing I'm concerned about is dairy but I figured sinc ei was having it done I might as...
  18. Hope you are okay! You could just eat some Lara bars or other safe prepackaged food to get you through the 24 hours if you don't want to risk cooking in someone elses kitchen. I keep a little emergency food bag on hand for things like that. It's stocked wiht Lara bars, banana chips, dried cherries, almonds, Enjoy Life bars, etc. Peanut butter and jellly...
  19. I agree with Mushroom. Please explain what you mean by this....
  20. I went to the allergist yesterday to be tested for food allergies since I recently started having anaphalactic-type reactions to dairy. They did the skin prick test and also ordered blood tests for me. Well the skin prick tests were underwhelmingly negative. I didn't have any puffy circles except for the control. However, less than 24 hours later now...
  21. I am on HCW--that's where I learned all about couponing. The funny thing is that prior to going gluten free I can look back at the times when I stockpiled a bunch of whole wheat pasta and I was really, really sick that year. Then the next year I was a little better and I had stockpiled more rice than pasta. One of my local stores did Super Double coupons...
  22. It sounds like you need to take her off of ALL milk and all products with milk in them. It's very telling that she will mostly only eat cheese and other dairy products. Some people with dairy sensitivities CRAVE cheese and milk. That's all they want. I have developed a true milk allergy recently and even I craved cheese like it was a drug my first week...
  23. It looks like you are eating a lot of processed foods. If you can, you relaly should switch to a whole foods diet for a while. Some people react badly to Udi's bread. It's not neccessarily a gluten reaction but some people just don't do well with it. I would suspect the Van's Waffles could be a bad batch or something--I don't know if they make them in...
  24. I have been glutened by sharing a water bottle with my DH when he had been eating gltueny food all day. That would definitely do it if you are sensitive to CC. Since you have a toddler you may also have been gltuened by feeding him when you touched the crackers and then ate something without washing your hands. I heard someone once give a good comparison...
  25. What do you feed her mostly? We might be able to help you figure out if somehting else is bothering her or if there is a product you are using that is not gluten-free.
