  1. Find another doctor! They should test your kids just based on the fact that you have celiac alone. That said, however I have read that false negatives on the blood tests are more common in children. Look for a D.O. instead of an MD if your insurance allows as they are more likely to accept a diagnosis based on dietary response and genes even if the blood...
  2. What a great idea! I've done taco bars and loaded baked potatoes bars before. I'm going to have to try this next party. My only prblem is I don't know how to make very many types of sauces yet for dipping. I make a spicy peanut butter based sauce and a faux soy-ginger-honey sauce using coconut aminos instead of soy. I will have to figure out how to make...
  3. If you are still doing an elimiantion diet and adding things you might try soybean oil first. I never had any allergy testing for soy so I consider my reactions to be an intolerance and I also avoid it because thyroid problems run in my family. I have read, however, that some people with soy allergies can have the oil because it does not have the soy protein...
  4. Try the edamame first, but with soy you might also want to test different forms of it (spaced one week apart of course). Some people don't have any reaction to soybean oil (AKA vegetable oil) or soy lectin. I have found my symptoms are different depending on what form of soy I have. With soybean oil I get an instant headache. With soy lectin I get fatigue...
  5. That sounds really good. I have done something similar with chicken instead of salmon. I also sometimes put cellophane rice noodles or bean thread noodles in the wraps to vary the texture. I love how you can do just about anythign with rice papper wrappers and the results are usually good cold for lunch too!
  6. A few options you could look into: Flax seed flour (ground flax seeds) or Coconut flour. I'm not sure what you could do with these without eggs, however as most low carb gluten-free recipes I have seen use eggs to hold it together. Does your bean allergy include peas? What about chickpeas? There's chickpea flour or other types of pea flour. Lentils...
  7. We had leftover chili over rice tonight. Sometime this week I'm going to try to make these: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Irish-Egg-Rolls/Detail.aspx Only use rice paper wrappers in place of the egg roll wrappers and bake them instead of frying them (rice paper seems to tear up when I try to fry it).
  8. We had turkey chili with blue corn muffins.
  9. I was told by someone on this board that as long as you are gluten free iodine will not CAUSE new outbreaks of DH. It just irritates DH if you have active blisters. The DH should go away after a few months of a strict gluten-free diet. I avoided iodine for about 6 months before I learned that I didn't need to anymore. My DH rash is gone and has not come...
  10. Your new doctor is much better than the old that's for sure. The bloodwork could have come back negative because you stopped eating gluten. They use the same bloodwork with diagnosed celaics to make sure they are following the diet properly (a negative follow up test indicates they have no active antibodies and therefore have not had large quantitites of...
  11. Yes, it is likely you are one of us. If your doctor has not yet done a full celiac blood panel get that done when you go to your appointment. Do NOT go gluten free until all your celaic testing is done as that will risk a false negative result. If the test is positve your doctor may want to do a biopsy of your intestine to confirm. Some docotrs will diagnose...
  12. Hi, I had the same symptoms of runny nose/congestion/out of breath, etc when I reintroduced dairy after 6 months gluten free/dairy free. At first it was not very bothersome and I would take an allergy med sometimes so I could have some cheese. Then all of the sudden in Feb of this year I started having severe allergic reactions to dairy. My lips tingle...
  13. Here is an old thread with mixed reviews of Amy's:
  14. I have read a lot of posts about people having gluten reactions to Amy's "gluten free" meals. I stay far away from them for this reason. If you are super sensitive to cc the Amy's meals may not be safe for you.
  15. Too Funny! I'm just about past the point of being charitable myself. We have told them firmly we are not coming this year and hopefully no one else will call trying to convince us. DH and I have many siblings and these are all siblings from both sides and our parents giving us grief. It hurts even more that they are not distant cousins or something....
  16. You might want to look into candida. Since you lived in a house with black mold you may have systemic yeast infection. I developed an allergy to mushrooms after living in a house with black mold about 5 years ago. I have often suspected a yeast/mold connection but I don't have any scientific evidence to back that up. Probiotics, anti-fungals and avoiding...
  17. Maybe a dumb question but have you had your blood sugar checked? Bananas and OJ are high in sugar. If you have a blood sugar problem like hypoglycemia you will feel dizzy and tired like you are describing after eating a banana or drinking some OJ. Try to stick with the supplements instead. Also if you suspect blood sugar issues at all, you can usually...
  18. I have encountered the attitude that life-threatening allergies can't be real on other message boards. Usually when the topic of schools going nut free or designating nut-free zones comes up there are always a few parents arguing that their kids should be allowed to eat their peanut butter sandwiches at school because nut allergies are not relaly life threatening...
  19. Thank you for seeing what I am facing. My husband has talked to some family members and it still seems to be going over their head that this is not just lactose intolerance like I had before when I visited them last. In fact, he had a very frustrating phone convo tonight with a family member (not the one with the nut allergic child) about how sick I have...
  20. The tests are very rarely false positive. It sounds like your doctor was being vague and you don't know whether the test was positiv eor not. Get a copy of the tests to read for yourself and you can also post them here--many on this board are good at explaining test results. If the tests are positive you pretty much have it. Your next step is to try the...
  21. I am waiting on an appointment with an allergist at the end of the month and hopefully I can get an epipen then. Did you regular dr prescribe it? Maybe I need to call my doctors office and ask for a prescription over the phone? I would feel better about traveling if I had one. I love Lara Bars. They are one of the things I carry in my emergency food...
  22. Do you mean IBS or IBD? IBS is not a diagnosis, it is a symptom of another disease, like Celiac disease. Most doctors say it's IBS when they have no idea what is causing your bowels to be irritable. So the short answer is yes, if something other than gluten is bothering you you should be able to figure it out by an elimination diet. It is also possible...
  23. Did they end up adding oats to them? I did a survey a while back for Enjoy Life and they were asking in the survey about whether Oats were considered gluten free. I told them no because some celiacs (myself included) react to oats. I hope they did not add oats to their products. Glad to hear they are better though.
  24. It is common for celiacs to get more sensitive once they go 100% gluten free. That happened to me as well. You may need to make your house completely gluten free. I know in the past that whenever my husband brought gluten items in to the house I was more likely to be sick. Now, the only thing he is allowed to have is restaurant leftovers which he will...
  25. Sadly, one of these families even has a child with a nut allergy--they carry an epipen for her, don't allow nut products in their house and make people wash their hands when they come over. I'm hoping that I can get an epipen so they will take my allergies more seriously. They don't seem to believe that someone can develop an IgE reaction later in life...
