ARCHIVED Tricked Into The Blood Test And I Need Resources!
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I wish I had known about things like this when I was 18 or 19. We will wait to see how much the bill is for the celiac test. I DID sign something at the doctor's office giving my husband permission to recieve medical information about me if I'm in an accident or something like that. But I don't think it gave him permision to make medical decisions... -
ARCHIVED Tricked Into The Blood Test And I Need Resources!
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wasn't in an Er for the pregnancy test. I was in a regular doctor's office. We haven't received a bill yet for the celiac test so we will just have to decide what to do if/when we get one. If my insurance covers it I may not do anything except find another doctor. This doctor clearly did not do the test to check for my compliance to a gluten-free diet... -
ARCHIVED Barium Meal Ft ?
GlutenFreeManna replied to tennisman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your doctor didn't tell you why they are doing a barium test? There are lots of different things they could be looking for like blockages, a hernia, and certain diseases that would show up on the x-ray. My husband had one to check for diverticulitis. The stuff you have to swallow IS nasty. My husband kissed me later after his test and I was sick and had... -
ARCHIVED Tricked Into The Blood Test And I Need Resources!

Oh my that's terrible! It's like he was just ordering tests to say he did them. The doctor I saw was asking me all these question like "do you have bloting, gas, diarhea, etc." Everytime my answer was "Only if I have accidental gluten." As long as I'm gluten free I don't have any celiac symptoms. Imagine that! -

GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No, what animation? Could you post a link for me please? As far as the testing without my permission, it may technically be some form of malpractice but what can you do about it besides find another doctor and tell all your friends to stay away? I have had other docotrs do tests without my permission in the past as well. I went to the doctor as a... -
ARCHIVED Tricked Into The Blood Test And I Need Resources!
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know either, perhaps she thinks its like testing for a vitamin deficiency or something. I tried to explain how the tests look for antibodies and since I had not been eating gluten I would not have any antibodies in my blood. She just gave me a bewildered stare. -
ARCHIVED Tricked Into The Blood Test And I Need Resources!
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the links. I'm pretty sure she was talking about the celiac panel tests, not the gene tests. She didn't bring up the gene testign at all, but she did question me carefully about my family's medical history. I may end up finding a different docotr once my blood tests for the thyroid come back. She did do a more indepth thyroid testing than the... -

I'm not the one who posted about corn tortillas, but Mission brand corn tortillas are safe. They are made on lines that only make corn products. Their flour tortillas are made on completely different equipment. I'm very sensitive to cc and have never had a problem with Mission corn tortillas.

ARCHIVED Tricked Into The Blood Test And I Need Resources!
GlutenFreeManna posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For those that don't know me I have been gluten free for over a year now. I never had any testing because even a tiny bit of gluten makes me very sick. I'm well aware from reading here that if I do a blood test without consuming gluten for weeks in advance it will come back false negative. I have been having some new non-gluten related symptoms that I... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Like To See For Products?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Diane-in-FL's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The only thing I really miss is Triscuits and Shredded Wheat. I haven't found any gluten-free products with a similar texture and when I looked up how they make shredded wheat products I realized it would be pretty much impossible to make at home out of gluten-free grains. Maybe some company though could come up with a process to dry and "shred" brown rice... -
ARCHIVED No Way To Turn Entire Home gluten-free
GlutenFreeManna replied to Aphreal's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Most of my coupons come from the Sunday inserts. I buy one or two papers each week and then I pay a clipping service for any extras of coupons I need. I also find a lot of IP (Internet Printable) coupons for gluten free products and organic products. There are not any good tortilla coupons out right now but there should be some out soon for Mardi gras... -
I felt pretty good within 6 months and great a year out (I'm 1 year, 2 months now). HOWEVER: I had to remove dairy and soy. I had to really get vigilant about taking my vitamins and supplements. I had to be very strict about my diet and do mostly whole foods. I rarely eat out, my entire household is gluten free and I try to only introduced...

Are you talking about sparkling water or vitamin water or something? I have never seen plain old bottled water with gluten or anything else in it. I drink plain old tap water filtered through a brita filter.

ARCHIVED Simple Stew Without Processed Ingredients?
GlutenFreeManna replied to cO-ol's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It sounds like crock pot is the way to go for you. I love my crock pot and I get a lot of recipes from the crockpot lady's blog here: Open Original Shared Link Everything she makes is gltuen free. Some things are more complicated than others. I am also soy and dairy free and I find I can make most of the things on her blog work for me (except maybe... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cosmetics?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Jess-Ay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just wanted to say be sure to get up to date information for anything made by Burt's Bees. They may have been safe at one time, but I have read the company was sold a couple years ago and changed their formulas. Many people (not just in the gluten-free world) were upset by the company changing formulas. So double check the dates of any posts you read... -
ARCHIVED Asthma And Dairy - Is It Lactose Or Casien Or Other That Is The Culprit?
GlutenFreeManna replied to StacyA's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have asthma. My asthma went away when I eliminated dairy. 6 months after eliminating dairy I started adding low lactose dairy (cheese, yogurt, butter etc) and it didn't seem to bother me at first. 1 year later (this month in fact) I found I was having increased asthma again due to eating too much dairy. Then last week I had a day when I ate cheese or... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Like The Odd Man Out Here
GlutenFreeManna replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The depression and other emotions you are feeling are normal to some extent with any auto immune disease, BUT they are also very likely to be caused by celiac disease. Celiac disease and depression are correlated. When I am on gluten my future seems very bleak and I feel like there is no hope at all just as you are describing. You are asking yourself ... -

I just re-read my last reply and I apologize if it sounded harsh. I should not reply to things when I was recently glutened and don't feel well. Sorry. -
ARCHIVED Feeling Like The Odd Man Out Here
GlutenFreeManna replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not sure how your points are relevant to the OP. The OP is not self-diagnosing, they are doubting a doctor's diagnosis based on positive blood tests/positive biopsy. Self diagnosed folks are not just going to go on suffering thinking they have Celiac if the diet doesn't work. If the diet doesn't work then they go back to their doctor and do more tests... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By A "gluten Free" Product!
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh I'm sorry you have to toss them, but I'm glad I could help you avoid getting sick. They are so not worth it. In case anyone else is interested the UPC on the bag I bought is 0 73472 00369 5 Lot# K0769DV The UPC matches the ones recalled in Canada, but the Lot# is different. I bought mine at Bloom in Virginia Beach, VA. I plan to contact... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By A "gluten Free" Product!
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, there are currently no laws in the US regulating the words "gluten free". From what I have read laws have been proposed but they have not passed legislation. So a company can label something "gluten free" and it may not be. They ARE required to label wheat, however they are NOT required to label barley. I suspect these tortillas have barley water... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By A "gluten Free" Product!
GlutenFreeManna posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As often as I read things here I should have known that FFL was not safe. I was so excited to find these in my store. They say "gluten free" and wheat free all over them. The ingredients are not much more than brown rice and filtered water. Well I'm having the worst gluten reaction I have had in 6 months after eating these twice this week. Everything... -
ARCHIVED Grandmas, Granpas, & Aunties How Do You Deal With Relatives?
GlutenFreeManna replied to teresasupermom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If she has still been getting sick or having high levels on her blood tests I would just not let her go out to eat without you or her dad until she is older and understands better what she can't eat. It may be very likely that your relatives are giving her "just a bite" of gluten here and there think "just a little won't hurt." I know that's hard to think... -

Intersting. I didn't realize it was possible to have crohns and never have any symptoms at all. The few people I have known with crohns are miserable or have to take strong meds to feel somewhat normal. The same goes for hypothyroidism. I get screened regularly for hypothyroidism because it runs in my family, but I have never known anyone with hypothyroidism...
