ARCHIVED Trying To Help A Friend
GlutenFreeManna replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wait, is he vegetarian too? That might make it harder, but still not impossible. One site I like for veggie dishes is : Open Original Shared Link It is not a gluten free site, but many things are gluten free or easy to make that way. It's also not only vegetarian, but many of the recipes you could just use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth. ... -
ARCHIVED Trying To Help A Friend
GlutenFreeManna replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Does he think he has addtional intolerances he is trying to figure out? If Dairy, Soy and Wheat are all he needs to avoid he can make a lot of his own dressings/marinades with olive oil for the oil. It's pretty hard to eat out or if you are used to buying only pre-made items, but if he learns how to cook there's so much variety he can have with spices and... -
ARCHIVED Joint Pain/swelling And Tendonitis
GlutenFreeManna replied to PBJMD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had joint pain so bad I was bed ridden and swelling in my hands and ankles most noticeably. I went gluten free soy free and dairy free at the same time, so I can't say for sure that gluten was the only culprit. I do notice that my joints hurt most if I eat something with soy. It took at least two months before I was up and about and not having as much... -
Whenever I'm feeling upset because of things I can't have I start listing all the yummy thing I CAN have. Then I go and get one of them as a treat ASAP. It doesn't do much for my waistline, but I don't feel deprived at least. Next time you go to a party take a gluten free app or dessert with you to share. Make sure you get yours out first (or make your...

ARCHIVED Communion, Gluten, And Celiac Tests
GlutenFreeManna replied to fakename's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, as mushroom said, if you are already gluten free the tests will be negative. If you already know gluten makes you sick, just keep avoiding it. You don't need a doctor's permission to eat gluten free. -
Yay! I was wondering how it went. That was a record snowfall for this area. Did you go to Navan or Trader Joes?
-
No one here is trying to frustrate you by asking if you are taking in gluten still. They are trying to help you see something you may have missed. Four months is not very long to learn everything you need to know about what contains gluten and what doesn't. I've been gltuen free for a year and I'm STILL learnign new things. I JUST found out that some type...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
GlutenFreeManna replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Tonight I'm making Chicken Alfredo with steamed broccoli. This will be a huge test for me on whether I can tolerate cheese/cream again. I've been able to eat small amoutns of hard cheese and butter for a while now, but the last time I had anything creamy my body rebelled, lol. -
ARCHIVED Should I Be Tested, Or Just Try The Diet?
GlutenFreeManna replied to 1sickscooby's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are going to get tested you need to do it before trying the diet. If you try the diet and it works then you cannot be tested without subjecting yourself to eating large quantities of gluten again for about three months. The tests will not be accurate if you have not been eating gluten. Tests also have about a 20% false negative rate, so try the... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
GlutenFreeManna replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I feel this way too! We still have Christmas leftovers and I didn't even make very much. I like that everyone is eating healthy after the holidays. I was craving a salad today and I could have done without soup, but my DH wanted a hot meal. So I made some chickena nd rice soup for him. I'm planing on getting back to mostly low carb once my chocolate... -

I never even saw this bread in stores. It must have been released in only select test markets. -

ARCHIVED How Gluten Friendly Is Your State?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I live in Virginia Beach, VA and my area is somewhat gluten free friendly and getting more friendly all the time. We have a Trader Joes and an entire store of gluten free and other allergy free foods--Open Original Shared Link Another local chain store, Farm Fresh, has an aisle labeled gluten free although the selection varies by store. Harris... -
I don't have a job to have this problem, but my mom is always saying stuff like this to me. My whole life all she has ever focused on is my weight. When I was bedbound with pain and hardly able to keep any food down, yet gaining weight despite eating not much more than crackers and toast, my mom told me I needed to exercise more and try to lose weight....

Congratulations! I lost 20 lbs in my first two months myself. Unfortuantely I started eating more gluten free baked goods and the weight loss stopped, but I didn't gain anything back either. My New Years Resolution is to go back to eating low carb and exercise more. The weight fell off without even trying for me.

ARCHIVED Soft Drinks
GlutenFreeManna replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just curious, I don't think Ihave seen any soda with gluten in it, do they exist? Can anyone share which ones need to be scrutinized/avoided because of gluten? I only drink soda when I'm at a party and there's nothing safe for me to eat. I try to go with something caffeine free like Sprite. It had not occurred to me to check for gluten in soda. -
ARCHIVED Microwave Chocolate Cake For One
GlutenFreeManna posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was making a batch of cupcakes using Betty Crocker's gluten free devil's food cake mix. I poured the batter into my 18 cupcake tin and had about a cup of batter left. So, on a whim I poured the batter into a cereal bowl and microwaved it on high for 30 seconds. It came out great, a perfect baked chocolate cake I could enjoy while waiting for my cupcakes... -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What To Do!
GlutenFreeManna replied to frantichope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Be prepared to fight to get the test panel done. If you are overweight an uneducated doctor may say you can't have celiac of gluten intolerance. I ran into this problem myself and it's part of the reason why I'm self-diagnosed. My GI told me I just need to lose weight and gave me pamplets on eating healthy that included advice about eating "whole wheat... -
ARCHIVED Processed 'gluten Free'
GlutenFreeManna replied to williamsburg000's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat mostly whole foods not just because I feel better, but also because it's less expensive. I do try a new gluten free processed food about once a month and I have a few that don't give me any problems (Pamela's ginger cookies are a fantastic). I eat some processed things that are naturally gluten free without problems too like corn tortillas, rice cakes... -
ARCHIVED Need Ideas!
GlutenFreeManna replied to Jestgar's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I can't eat ham, but we had dinner at a friend's house and they sent some home for my husband to eat. I made him a ham and pineapple pizza (gluten free of course). -
ARCHIVED Kitchen Shopping
GlutenFreeManna replied to jenngolightly's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would do gas if given the option as well. I used to think I wanted one of those flat electric cook tops for the ease of cleaning, but there are several downsides to them. If a coil goes out it's hard (maybe impossible in some models) to replace. Also they advise against doing things like canning on a flat cooktop. I did can some apples at a friends... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
GlutenFreeManna replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I decided last night to use some Al Fresco chicken sausage in place of ham. Also I AM using Simply Potatoes and they ARE gluten free. It doesn't say so on the label, but I double checked their website and it says they are gluten free. I have regular old potatoes I could shred, but I decided I want an easy breakfast. The casserole looks like it will come... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
GlutenFreeManna replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I fasted today until sunset and then I went out and got a frosty from Wendys. It was the only thing that sounded good to me! Besides I will spend the next couple days eating lots. Tommorrow for breakfast/brunch I plan to make (turkey) bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches on Udi's bagels. Then I will spend the day making dairy free pumpkin custard pies and... -
ARCHIVED Hello? Are You Even Listening?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Rowena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's probably too late now, but could you ask for something else that is naturally gluten free and easy to make, but still a special treat for you? I'm making myself lamb. I'm doing it Open Original Shared Link, but it's expensive so I don't buy it very often. I will share it with my friends, but the lamb and a ceasar salad will be all I'm having for Christmas... -
ARCHIVED Christmas Goodies... Aiaiaiaiai
GlutenFreeManna replied to Rowena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Chocolate itself is gluten free (although some types of chocolate candy have malt and are out). Rowena just cannot eat chocolate in addition to the gluten I believe. If you need a gluten free chocolate fix, Snickers are safe. Yum! And welcome to the community, BTW.
