  2. I like Tinkyada brown rice pasta, Udi's breads, muffins, and bagels, and Glutino English muffins. All the Chex cereals are gluten free except obviously Wheat Chex. Ancient Harvest quinoa pasta is OK too.
  3. Fasting will certainly give you headaches, irritability, dizziness and other symptoms. For goodness sake, eat! Your body needs nourishment to heal if you are celiac, and to function even if you aren't. There are LOTS of foods out there that don't contain gluten! Meat, fruits, vegetables, dairy if you tolerate it, rice, potatoes, Rice Chex, Corn Chex, Fritos...
  4. What is wheat doing in rice or ice cream, for goodness sake?! So unnecessary. Jen, I usually don't worry about shared facilities - it depends how sensitive you are. I think you are wise to avoid them for now, once you are healed a bit you can try introducing them and see if you are OK.
  5. I feel so stupid! Noticed some unusual skin breakouts this week, a little D yesterday, today - serious D, bloating. Spent the morning trying to figure out what I've been eating that is different, just wracking my brains. It was Blue Bunny Bunny Tracks Ice cream! Says it right there on the label - "May contain traces of wheat". And I've been eating it all...
  6. I would keep the baby gluten free until he is old enough to try it on his own. With your family history, he is at risk for celiac in any case, and there are lots of people (me, for instance) who started on wheat as infants who developed celiac anyway. And if he is celiac, I think it could make him very ill unnecessarily.
  7. Betty Crocker makes gluten free Bisquick and cake, cookie and brownie mixes. They also have a website with gluten free recipes.   9. I second the vote for Gluten Free Pantry Favorite Sandwich bread mix - my gluten-eating daughter adores it, and she doesn't have to eat it!

  11. We have some gluten bread, cereal, cookies, etc. in the house for my teenager, which works OK as long as it's kept in separate cabinets from my food, but NO flour - it's too messy and impossible to keep out of everything.

  13. I'm so sorry you have another health problem to cope with - it does seem SO unfair! I would try to get my husband to bring me food at the hospital if it were me. It's nice to see you posting again
  14. You could try a little and see if it upsets you. Some people cannot tolerate lactose at all in the beginning, others can. I did OK with very small amounts (like what would be in chocolate). It may depend on how badly damaged your intestines are. That's wonderful that you are feeling great!
  15. I don't cook gluten food, either. If I can't eat it, I don't see any reason I should cook it. I make lots of perfectly edible and delicious food, and if someone wants gluten food instead they can darn well make it themselves - and NOT with wheat flour in my house.   16. Welcome back! Glad you had a great wedding and honeymoon. You CAN live well on this diet, and healthy is the best way for you to start your new life together! Gluten free cooking can be an interesting adventure; I made wonderful chocolate chip muffins for my family for breakfast today and my gluten-eaters LOVED them.
  17. Suzanna, don't stay away because you are "no use to anyone" here. We hope WE can be of use to YOU while you are learning to cope. I echo what others have said - look for a good therapist. Also try meditation, exercise, yoga, hobbies - anything that brings you joy, relieves stress and helps take your mind away from the pain. And maybe learning to cook yourself...

  20. I am another one who doesn't like the flavor of Bob's Red Mill - the bean flour taste is unpleasant to me. I use apple cider vinegar in breads with no problem, so probably change the flour. Recipe #1 looks yummy; hopefully with a milder flour it will taste as good as it looks!

  22. I have always been the "always cold" and can't warm up type. Come to think of it, it is a little better since going gluten free; I thought perhaps the perimenopause hormones were making me run a little hotter, or the 10 pounds I've gained, but maybe it was the gluten all along? My blood pressure and thyroid are both normal.
  23. I agree, people should eat what you put out - it isn't polite to be looking in your cabinets or fridge and asking for what's in there instead. And the parents ought to step up and tell the kids that, regardless of what type of food it is.

  25. Unfortunately, because we have to thinkabout food all the time, I think that sets us up for a disordered relationship to food. Ideally, people ought to simply eat something nutritious and satisfying when they are hungry, then forget about food until they are hungry again. And for us that isn't possible. I know I have more cravings, and do more bingeing on...
