I tried this recently too and agree it is very good. -
ARCHIVED Miss The Convenience
SaraKat replied to The Glutenator's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Going out to eat is a real nightmare so far. No one knows what celiac or gluten is unless I am in NYC. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Handle Going To A Wedding?
SaraKat replied to SaraKat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone. I think I will call the place directly and tell them I don't want to bother the bride and see what they say. The wedding is at a yacht club so there is a restaurant there, it won't just be the wedding/catered food. Hopefully they can just make something plain for me. -
ARCHIVED Suggestion For Dinner Out With The Family
SaraKat replied to MelindaLee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Usually buffets have salad bars, that might be your best bet or maybe the restaurant can prepare a non buffet dinner for you- plain chicken with vegetables. -
ARCHIVED What To Expect After Gluten Free Diet
SaraKat replied to undiagnosedillness's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am a newly diagnosed celiac. I didn't have the classic symptoms- I had a pain in my left lower ribcage area since Oct 2009 and found out through a rheumatologist (then a GI Dr for the biopsy) I had celiac. My GI Dr doesn't think the rib pain is connected to my celiac, but I have been on the diet since 9/1 and while I still have the rib pain a little,... -
ARCHIVED What Is The Best Test To Dermine Celiac Disease?
SaraKat replied to chucksusanandgrace's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had a blood test and an endoscopy. I didn't have the genetic blood test- it was an antibody one. I heard the TTG IGA is a good one for starters or ask for the celiac panel. I think the genetic test would show if you have the gene for it, but you still may not have actual celiac disease. I am new so I could be off. -
I have a wedding coming up in November and I was just diagnosed. I hate to be the picky one or complainer, but do I tell the bride or just wait till I get there and tell the waitress/er at our table that I need my dinner plain? I'd much rather not get the bride involved if at all possible. What do you do?

ARCHIVED Am I The Only Gluten Girl?
SaraKat replied to Melissaann829's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just read that. That is interesting. I don't doubt my Dad has MS. He is 63 and was dx'd at 35. He had the spinal tap and the lesions, etc. He is wheelchair bound now and has limited use of his hands. I don't think he has been misdiagnosed all these years. I am just kind of surprised that when they say your immediate family members have a 1... -
ARCHIVED Am I The Only Gluten Girl?
SaraKat replied to Melissaann829's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is similar to me. I just got diagnosed a few weeks ago and my parents cannot recall anyone that has had stomach issues in our immediate or extended families. My Mom and sister are getting tested, but get this- my Dad who has MS went to his Dr about getting tested for celiac and his Dr told him that it wasn't necessary. Isn't that weird!! I think... -
ARCHIVED 2 Questions About Type II Diabetes...
SaraKat replied to SaraKat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks to both of you! That clears some things up. Missy'smom- I don't really have a huge concern about diabetes as far as me thinking that I have it, but when I looked back on my blood tests from last year I noticed that my glucose was always at 99 or 101, which is right around normal, but 101 is high. I wonder if I should pursue that at all. I just... -
ARCHIVED Really Nervious - Help With Questions For My Gastro Appointment Tomorrow
SaraKat replied to jstanton8's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Those results look negative? My results were over 100 and one test was even over 400. I suppose if I were you, I would go gluten-free to see how you feel rather than doing a biopsy since your results look very negative. I am new to this though, so someone else might have a better answer. Good Luck! Oh, and I had the total serum IGA test and that... -
ARCHIVED Silent Celiac - How Do You Know If You Have Been Glutened?
SaraKat replied to love2travel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This post is like me too. I have been trying to find out why I was having left ribcage pain & underarm pain since Oct 2009. Randomly I found out I have celiac by a rheumatologist and then was referred to a GI Dr who confirmed with biopsy. I have been mostly gluten free since 9/1/10. I know I have had a few slip ups from being new on the diet and... -
Is it autoimmune and is it hereditary? I always thought Type II is from bad eating habits/non exercise, I thought Type I was AI and hereditary? My Dad has it and told me it is autoimmune and hereditary. I should have asked my Dr, but totally forgot and I find conflicting answers on Google search. Anyone know? Thanks! What are early warning signs of...

ARCHIVED New Here, Another Biopsy On Friday
SaraKat replied to kimboloco's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
These were my blood test results: TTG IGA is >100 Reticulin AB: negative (not sure what this is) Gliadin Panel: IgG: is 131 IgA: >400 Endomysial AB Endo Antibodies IgA: Positive, titer 1:320 my TTG IGA result is the same as yours- >100. I just had my biopsy 8/31 and it was positive. I've been a tad anemic, but nothing off the charts... -
My Dr said it was just positive, he didn't mention a scale rating or anything which I have heard used on this site before. I guess the gastric one is self explanatory, but the duodenum one is the questionable one, does anyone know if this is really bad? DIAGNOSIS: A-Duodenum biopsy: Fragments of duodenal mucosa with marked villous blunting and atrophy...

ARCHIVED Seeing Doctor Tomorrow- What Tests? Cost?
SaraKat replied to winter.skadi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am not a Dr or anything, but when I was dx'd with celiac they just did the Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and it came back positive (38). Then the Dr told me I needed the endoscopy to confirm, but she told me that the TTG IGA was like 97% or 98% accurate. So, I made an appt with the GI Dr and he also wanted to run a celiac blood test, but when... -
I felt the formal diagnosis was important to see how bad the damage was and to see if there was anything else wrong. I also didn't have the typical GI symptoms where I felt very sick- I had some joint pain, which was really bad, but not totally disabling or anything. My blood test was mid Aug and the endoscopy was 2 weeks later. So, I figured I could...

ARCHIVED What Was Your Last Gluten Meal ?
SaraKat replied to Dellers's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I remember going to my in laws the weekend before and having a big Italian meal- pasta, breads, etc. I also had a chicken finger sub that weekend. Pizza sounds good! Enjoy!! I tried gluten-free pizza from my local pizza place recently and it was very good! -
ARCHIVED Is There A Type Of Dr That Specializes In Autoimmune Diseases?
SaraKat replied to SaraKat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thx for your response. Yeah, that is very technical- so are you saying that CD4+ and CD8+ T cells are the same cells that are in the celiac intestine? That is very weird! I wonder if a Rheumatologist would know of this connection. It just seems that these syringomas are so rare and I found an article saying that the first case of eruptive syringomas... -
ARCHIVED For Those With Hypothyroidism

I take 25mcg of Synthroid. -
ARCHIVED Is There A Type Of Dr That Specializes In Autoimmune Diseases?
SaraKat posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was dx'd with Celiac in August, but back in April I went to my dermatologist for my annual body scan and she found a cluster of little bumps behind my left knee and she wanted to biopsy them. She did and they came back as something called "eruptive syringomas" she told me back then that they are sometimes autoimmune related, but she didn't want to scare... -
ARCHIVED Joint Inflammation
SaraKat replied to MarkR555's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, that was my main symptom and that is why I was shocked about the celiac diagnosis. My left lower ribcage/joint was so painful I ended up going to a rheumatologist in mid August and she is the one that discovered the celiac. I've been on the diet for 1.5 weeks and there is a noticeable difference in the pain. I still feel it, but it is not disabling... -
ARCHIVED Is Clear Sambuca Romana gluten-free?
SaraKat replied to SaraKat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks! I had some this weekend and totally forgot that it might not be gluten-free. I just started the diet last week and really didn't have GI symptoms to begin with so I couldn't tell by drinking it. That was the only questionable thing I've had so far (to my knowledge)! -
ARCHIVED Longshot, But Has Anyone Dined At Dos Caminos Nyc And Had A gluten-free Dinner?
SaraKat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Longshot, but has anyone dined at Dos Caminos NYC and had a gluten-free dinner? I can't find much online. What do you typically order at a Mexican restaurant gluten-free? -
ARCHIVED Is Plain Starbucks Coffee gluten-free?
SaraKat replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I drink it everyday and have no issues- I add the raw sugar and half and half and I don't have issues with those either. I am hoping the pumpkin spice latte is!!!
