What is a functional doctor? Sounds like I need one.

ARCHIVED Other Food Intolerances Get Me Down
elk replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This sounds yum! Can I get the recipe? -
The recipe sounds yummy, I'll have to give it a try - thank you. I've tried flax on and off and I seem to have a problem with it. I'll probably try again after things are a bit more under control.

oh, I just looked it up and it has a "hint" of coco. Maybe I can get away with it

excellent, thank you!

ARCHIVED Suggestion For Dinner Out With The Family
elk replied to MelindaLee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would just pack my own food. It's more about the social aspect than it is the actual food anyway. I take my own food to restaurants all the time. -
Does it not contain chocolate at all?? I can't have chocolate so that would be freakin' great!

It was Bob's Red Mill and said gluten-free but not certified gluten-free. I have since had butter and been fine, so I'm ruling that out. If I go without dairy for a while, then I have some GI issues when I do have it.

ARCHIVED 7 Months And Feeling Bummed
elk replied to peanjmiles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Both maltodextrin and natural flavorings can be aliases for MSG, which can cause a bunch of problems. The best thing to do (IMHO) is to just stick with whole/real foods. I used to hate cooking, but I really enjoy it now. It takes a bit to get used to, but it's really just a matter of creating new habits. As far as thyroid, it is really hard to get... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Wedding Menu Ideas?
elk replied to twinkle-toez's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it's a great idea and it's your day to put your personal stamp on it anyway! I agree about foregoing the gluten-free bread, especially with all the wonderful ideas here. Congrats! -
ARCHIVED How Do You Handle Going To A Wedding?
elk replied to SaraKat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
wow, lots of upcoming weddings -- I have one too. I'm planning just to eat before I go and then take something with me to snack on. If mine was a formal sit down dinner, I think I would pack a fancy meal for myself and then ask for a clean plate. I wonder if that could be construed as an insult if the bride wasn't forewarned? I can be pretty stealthy though... -
Do you eat a lot of processed foods?
-
I've never found a rice milk that doesn't contain chemicals, junk, msg, etc. I know you can make your own almond milk, but I've never tried it (at this point though I'll be looking into it). There should be a recipe on msgmyth.com.

Hi Marilyn. Thanks for your input. The part about your neuro symptoms coming on first is striking a nerve. I think I've been hesitant about blaming gluten as the culprit because most of my symptoms are neuro -- except lately I'm starting to notice some GI symptoms. I really should know better after seeing the difference since cutting out processed foods...

from my body that is

Thank you, it is helpful to hear that. It's so frustrating and it would be nice to see some positive feedback for my efforts every once in a while.

yeah, the butter was new. I don't think I have issues with dairy, but I don't have any good days where I can get a handle on what's causing what. I eat butter fairly frequently, but not much other dairy. Guess I'll drop that for a while. I'm at the barn as much as possible - although lately I've been missing a lot due to an increase in being sick. I do...

I hear ya, it's so freaking maddening. I thought I was going to get to see my horse today and I completely ruined that by eating... and it wasn't even something bad... I hate that.

ARCHIVED These Articles Are So Funny!
elk replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The part of the article that got me was when they said it occurs naturally. I remember reading a couple years ago that wheat is now genetically engineered to contain 85% gluten, whereas it used to be 5% (when it was really naturally occurring). I should try to look that up again... feel free to correct me in the meantime. And the part about it being... -
I was reading the "Discouraged" thread and I'm having similar problems -- I too just started going completely gluten-free so I'm not expecting to feel better for a while. But, I was doing okay this morning until I ate this. Now it feels like my blood pressure is up and I feel a little sick and nauseous and have a headache (not a migraine yet though - TG...

Thanks you guys. Ive been using celtic grey sea salt and when I do use sugar it's been organic, but not raw. I'll try that. I wonder if I get too much sugar through the fruit that I eat, but it seemed for a while that that's the only thing (I thought) that wouldn't trigger a migraine, etc. I feel like there's not much I can eat as it is, but I'll eliminate...

I just read someones post about grains and candida. I looked up the symptoms and it sounds like me. I guess I'll check into this as well.

hmmm, where to begin? One of my biggest problems is migraines - I feel like if I could get that under control then I could just suck it up when it comes to my other problems (fatigue, chest pressure/pain, nausea, flu like feeling, occasional muscle/joint pain, hoarseness or tightness in throat, headache/pressure in head, occasional sharp pains in abdomen...

thank you . it's all very confusing and something is making me sick. Definitely have your thyroid check out just in case.
