ARCHIVED Is There Anyone That Doesn't React When Glutened?
elk replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you have any symptoms, including those that aren't GI related? i.e., migraines, anxiety, palpitations, etc. ALL of my symptoms are neurological and now that I'm starting to see improvement after 6 months of being gluten free, I'm convinced most of my problems are gluten related. -
My homemade bread, sliced thick and brushed with evo, garlic and spices... on the grill.

You might also want to have your adrenal gland function tested. As far as diet, I don't know about the gluten connection, but if you are eating a lot of processed foods, you're likely eating a lot of hidden MSG which can affect the hypothalamus. Do you get hotter/sweatier after eating?

thanks for the support

Had a mini-melt down yesterday and apparently today. Yesterday I was out and "had to have" food, so I risked McDonalds fries... I'm too stupid to ask if they had a dedicated frier. Not sure if that's the cause of my migraine today since I had a headache before I ate them (I figure if I'm going to do the time then I'm going to do the crime ). So THEN...

hmmm, maybe I'll play it safe and just use tape.

This just occurred to me as I was licking an envelope... any chance of gluten in that?

ARCHIVED First Menstrual Period gluten-free, Feeling Aweful!
elk replied to possiblyglutensensitive's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ditto the progesterone cream, which helped me immensely with PMS symptoms (just be sure not to over use it). I used to start pms'ing 2 weeks out and unless I take too much, then I'm good right up until day 1. If I do get cramps, they're minimal and bearable. Get a quality brand with minimal ingredients. I use Oasis Serene. -
Sorry if you know all this already, but just in case... Run of the mill store bought meat will have all sorts of junk in it (including MSG to enhance the flavor of cheap meats -- which could be the cause of the moodiness). I would try: grass-fed (and finished) beef organic chicken or free range chicken with no additives (you have to look closely at...

I have no idea what's going on, but it seems like I'm reacting to all grains including rice. It could be completely unrelated since my symptoms aren't generally GI, but it's hard to pin down when just about every day sucks.

If that's the case, hopefully any CC would be highly unlikely if they used a lotion, etc. (and maybe it would have already absorbed into their skin?). Maybe you could ask them not to use any body lotions on the day of your appointment? I hope you don't have to pick a new career.

I am confused. It's my understanding that anything we put on our skin can be absorbed into the blood stream. Is it different for gluten?

I wish there was something we could do about doctors like this! IMHO, most of them aren't very competent. They don't care and they just run you through an assembly line type of process. I've never heard one good thing about endocrinologists and my one experience proved that to be true -- her explanation for everything was that humans weren't meant to...

Oh, and I'm careful of the chicken I buy. Read the label -- it'll be hidden well, but a lot of the mainstream brands use a "broth" to enhance the flavor of chickens that are raised on soy, corn and other junk, not to mention growth hormones. Chickens should not be that big. We are what our food eats...

I'm new too, so others will be more helpful. But, I can not eat rice or any other grains right now. I stay away from processed foods (including sauces like Worcestershire sauce) as the preservatives, msg, and other chemicals give me migraines and make me sick. Also, I was just reading that gluten can be hidden in things like preservatives, modified food...

wow, thanks for all the info everyone.

Can anyone shed light on the tax credit for Celiacs? It was mentioned on a couple of other posts, so I'm curious.

I would definitely get your thyroid checked along with cortisol levels (saliva test) -- get copies of your results, because even if your numbers are in range, they could be on the low side for you. Stick with the gluten-free diet and eat whole foods -- regardless of what people are saying. I can't stand it when people claim to know something when they don...

ARCHIVED Other Food Intolerances Get Me Down
elk replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
thanks burdee! -
I finally bought it and all I can say is yum! I have to say I'm not happy it has soy, but for an occasional treat I'll just get over it. Oh, and try it frozen -- gives it a candy bar texture. I made my first frozen one too big and had to gnaw my way through it, but some how I managed.
-
Thanks Jeanne! I'll be looking into that because I've been trying to find a doctor who will actually try to think about what's wrong, not just treat my symptoms.

I eat tons of garlic -- I hope that's not one of my problems

ARCHIVED When Gluten Free Is Not Enough
elk replied to ksymonds84's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you for sharing that. I'm going to look into FM now. I hope that's not me because I love onions adn I eat a lot of fruit (mainly apples and mangos) because everything else seems to trigger migraines. I think grapes just did me in.
