ARCHIVED Problems With Support Groups
Rowena replied to Wise's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
So I can see where you are coming from. I would hate to attend a support group with someone who only thinks they are Celiac. I myself am not Celiac, according to a blood test at anyrate, but I do have an official diagnosis of gluten-intolerance, after my doctor saw what the diet did for me. But I think, correct me if I am wrong, your problem isn't the... -

ARCHIVED Paul Taylor Dance Company Celiac Disease Center Fundraiser - BigNews.biz (press release)

Awww the crab cakes... Sounds like home! (Not that I could ever eat the crab cakes, but they are a good reminder of MD) Blood testing for Celiac? Innacurate? Sounds about right. With my high sensitivity to gluten, and all I have is a negative blood test to show for it, I am pretty sure I have Celiac, but whatever. Doesn't matter to me. I don't need a... -
So we are going to at some point try having kids. But as I am still new to this diet I am a little lost... so yeah, if ya'll could clear a few things up that would be great. Once pregnant, how long do you wait to tell people? (Esp after having a miscarry already) Prenatal vitamins... what kind? Drugs at the hospital? Food at the hospital? Toiletries...

ARCHIVED Celiac Being "over Diagnosed" According To My Gyn
Rowena replied to SaraKat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't think its that they have no clue, especially doctors who are older. Its something that when they were younger no one really new about, and it was one of those things back then that was condemnation probably. But nowadays, the medical field has new and improved technology, and can find more stuff out. But as humans, its a natural tendency to be... -
ARCHIVED Subway Tests Gluten-Free Options - NACS Online
Rowena replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
"Extra measures are taken to ensure gluten does not contaminate other foodstuff such as meat, cheese and vegetables." Oh really? How so? I want to know how they intend to do this when I've even found tuna in my sandwich, and many of you know that fish is poison to me. (Tuna being the worst) And what about the counters that they work on? And heaven... -
I agree, lawyer in the family is QUITE handy... Helped with a number of things. As for him showing up at my work, I don't think he even knows where I work. Never know though. He could still be that obsessed with me. (And his mom don't help none. Sometimes I think she is more obsessed with me than he is.)
-
So telling him to back off using every swear word in the book doesn't work? Darn. And yes I have been tempted to do that. Oh and yes my husband knows about this... Though I don't think he grasps the idea of what this guy is doing.
-
Tell an ex to back off when he won't even give you a chance to back off? So pretty much, he and his family are all trying to find ways to get us to see each other, and his mom and he have invited me to a church function where he will be speaking, each twice. Not to mention while he was away for two years he sent me a lovely (note the sarcasm) love letter...

ARCHIVED Hope I Don't Offend Any Of You Southerners, But....
Rowena replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Grits, now that is somethin' this wannabe Southerner should try. (I am from DC, MD side. So yeah, hence the reason I say wannabe southerner. Hey! Don't hate me cuz I'se a fake southerner. Though if you heard me speak, I do have a tiny bit of a southern accent. Being from DC though, I have quite a few accents in my accent.) And bacon and garlic and... -
Dear Chocolate, You've thus far since my last letter heeded my warnings. Sort of. Minus the brownies my husband had to confiscate, the mints from the work party that i ate nearly a box of. But really, just the mere mention of you makes me want to have you back in my life. For heaven's sake, must you really make this so hard? For some reason you are...

Cass~ Hahaha yeah, it told me I'm 44, (and I'm 21!) because of those awful balance tests. I swear a person with amazing balance can't pass some of those. Oh well. Whatever. It is helping me improve my balance all the same. Oh and yer a dancer? Its funny, you'd think dancers are the most graceful people, but a lot of dancers I know are the clumsiest...

So basically after the past year and a half, I am utterly frustrated with doctors. Mostly because we have had crappy school insurance, so thus I have had to go to student health care (not even the darn hospital that is a university hospital was under our university insurance). But my dad's insurance changed it's requirements, so now your married children...

I wonder if a lot of times, its just a matter of speaking up, especially in a church setting. We are taught at church to be kind and helpful and loving, (something I am pretty sure is taught in most churches/religions) and sometimes people don't know we need help unless we say something. And yet, at least in my case, I am too shy to ask for help.
-
So I have not been able to attend church in a long time because we have a bad habit of either trying supposedly gluten free restaurants or going to families' houses on a friday or saturday. Of course, this usually means glutening. (UGH I HATE GLUTEN!) But at anyrate, I just have to say, first off, MY HUSBAND IS AWESOME. Second off, we talked to my bishop...

ARCHIVED Why Do We Get More Sensitive To Non-Gluten Foods After Going gluten-free?
Rowena replied to GFshay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have noticed the same thing happen to me. What I think it is is that we spent so much time reacting to gluten and everything that we didn't know which end was up. And the symptoms of a lot of allergies are similar, but doctors think first, gastrointestinal problems? Test for Celiac. And then when they find that they stop. So then the gluten problem... -
*shudder* oh and add a two year old attached to my leg... (If I am in this lousy apartment that long. I sure hope not. lol)

hahahaha true story!!!!!!!!!!! Especially since I can't move at all in mine... Hahaha.

Okay, so I know that very rarely do plans work out the way we want them to when we plan so far in advance, but we are contemplating having children now that I am healthy again. And I know it is a ways off, (at least 10 months at the earliest) but I want to consider how to ready my house for a family. One of the things on my list is the gluten free diet...

ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Not Concieve If You Have Celiac And Still Eat Gluten?
Rowena replied to rds77's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am not Celiac, and least not via bloodtest though I question with how badly I am affected by gluten, but I figure it works much the same way with intolerance. I have had pretty regular periods, though I would fluctuate a week or so sometimes. But shortly after getting married, I got pregnant. At six weeks I miscarried though it was forced out at 1... -
SG~ I love oxo brand!!!! that's the best brand ever. I swear every other brand wears down far too quick and far too easy. Tupperware.... is that what is getting me? Hmmmm.... I never thought about it but I guess that could be why I am often sick after eating leftovers from my parents and in-law's houses... As for cheap way of replacing things, something...
-
Mostly I replaced anything wood because the gluten gets absorbed by the wood. Also, anything that is not easy to clean or has a lot of holes, like a cheese grater or a toaster, I would replace (or just get an alternate one if you are doing the shared kitchen thing). As for anything else, I would say, if its beat up, even if you didn't have a problem with...

ARCHIVED Omg, Did That Really Just Happen?!
Rowena replied to Looking for answers's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
To make you feel better, this is the story of my life... Cept, I don't know if we have security cameras taping me... but who knows. Even if there aren't there are plenty of onlookers to see my misfortune, so it might as well have been caught on tape... Instance one: Standing at a secretarial station talking... out of the blue, I just go down. And the... -
So since I lost so much weight so fast, I have an insane number of stretch marks. And they are EVERYWHERE!!!! My head, my neck, my shoulders, my stomach, my legs, (places I won't name as well) hell I probably could find some on my feet. And I do not like them, Sam I am. (Oh wait, that's Green Eggs and Ham... Oh well.) And I know I will just keep finding...
