    ARCHIVED Fad Diets

I figured out my gluten intolerance when my doctor did the blood test for Celiac disease. I, being the ever curious, did some research on celiac/gluten, and discovered all the foods that made me sickest (and then some) had gluten in them. So I decided then, I would go gluten free, and this was before I even heard that I tested negative for celiac. When...
  2. So my dad is getting sworn in as a Utah Attorney tommorrow. (Its about time, five and a half years in utah, sheesh) My parents decided, (of course at the last minute too.) to go out to eat beforehand. The restaurant they picked is a really nice restaurant. But I am certain it wont be the safest food.... What do you do in such a situation? I dont want to...
  3. Ener-G foods bread--> GOOD for stuffing, BAD for everything else... Ok got it... Though I think I'm gonna start making my own bread these days... Am I one of the only ones who didn't start with Ener-G bread? sa1937- yeah our udi's bread must come frozen too, because ours is the same way... But I love it all the same... But I am inclined to pass off...
  4. Oh another note, not that it is entirely relevant, but I have been suffering from this allergy since before going gluten free. I didn't notice it as much though when I was getting glutenified, but now that I have gotten my gluten problems resolved I notice it more.... And swimmr, I will definitely have to consider an elimination diet.... (Maybe soy is...
  5. Dang it, I hate my body somedays. I recently discovered my intolerance to gluten, I recently rediscovered my intolerance to chocolate. I for the most part don't eat dairy. (Not a big fan as my mom was lactose intolerant, so I didn't grow up eating much dairy.) I am pretty sure I aint allergic to soy, havent had any reactions to it as far as I can tell...
  6. My personal opinion on the matter is that oats, no matter if they claim to be gluten free or not are questionable. 10-15% percent is too high a percent to risk for me. Thats anywhere from one out of 10 to 3 out of 20 people, and to me, the odds just dont look good. True enough that the majority of people dont have a problem. But that percent of people who...
  7. I can only answer your first two questions with a complete knowledge 1. Yes it is possible to notice a difference in a week. I noticed a difference within a few days. Of course, this isnt to say that your body is completely normal again by a week later. It does take some time to heal. But once you stop eatin what is makin ye sick, then the body can focus...
  8. I recently purchased the same bagels, but I aint had a problem with them. Like alot of others have said, I recommend watchin what you eat, even keepin a food diary, and seein if it could be somethin else you are reactin to (ie soy). Another thin to look out for is if you are preparin your bagels with contaminated equipment (IE knives/ cuttin boards/ plates...
  9. Thanks for all your help... I definitely felt a lot better today, not sure why, I didnt do much different. (Though I did have people jealous of the leftover stir-fry I made last night. So maybe that brightened my spirits. Course I had a lot of fun makin it last night and my good mood from that may have spilled over into today.) Takala, I am on a multivitamin...
  10. I got people from the Netherlands signing!!! Man I love my friends...
  11. #155... Woot... I like that number... Though unless we get more people, I dont know if it will happen. *pout* *goes to facebook to recruit.*
  12. I found that Ancient Harvest has some Quinoa rigatoni. (I dont like the Quinoa pastas as much though) I personally like rice pastas more. (I buy DeBoles, even though it does break apart easy. We dont mind that though because my husband likes his noodles chopped up really fine anyway.)
  13. I am not a fan of tapioca neither so I dont use it. But as for the cornstarch, if you dont wanna use that I highly recommend arrowroot instead. Its a wonderful replacement. (Used it last night in my stir-fry... made my sauce a hundred times better) Like others said, I dont really trust oats, even the gluten free stuff. So I cannot inform you on that. ...
  14. So I found the Larabars at a WinCo over the weekend, and then yesterday I found a wider variety at my WF of Larabars and just about every kind of Kindbar there was too. I found some others too, anyone tried the "Think Thin" bars? Anyway I pulled some more Larabars, but I aint a big fan of so many nuts, thus the Kind bars didnt seem so appealin... (And I was...

  16. I've hit a rut now. I, for the first couple weeks, didn't care about people eating the gluten crap around me. I didn't really crave it or nuthin. It just was part of my life. I ain't gonna stop 'em. But now, I'm frustrated. Watching people eat what I can't has gotten hard for me. Watchin people eat "real" sandwiches on saturday was the first time...
  17. Also the whole foods generic 365 brand of shampoo/conditioner/body lotion/shower gel is gluten-free and what I use. I been sensitive to such things for years, and they are the first to not make me want rip my skin/scalp off
  18. Okay so I am a people pleaser, and my parents are sort of hard to please. All my life I have worked hard to please them. They were the kind of parents who if I didnt get an A in my classes (particularly math) they would say its not good enough. So all through high school and first year and a half of college, I wasnt good enough. Yeah, well thats just a little...
  19. kareng ~ Neither was I. I was always one of the ones who made fun of the cheerleaders. Besides we band geeks had better cheers anyway. (And the most school spirit too.) Though I is definitely a fan of your second cheer. *grin* but as a poet I guess I am obligated to do my part. Gimme a few and I will come up with somethin. (And yeah, I promise my poetry does...

    ARCHIVED My Head

Thats the worst!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had that problem with my worst shampoos. That or the lid will pop off and then they fall in the tub while I am takin a bath (a rare occurance because I cant stand sittin in a tub more than five minutes, and it also dries my skin out more than a shower does.) I figure time to try another shampoo/conditioner/soap when that...
  21. So we went to PF Changs last night...Oh my yum. Strange thing was, before goin gluten free I never liked the place much. It didnt compare to the chinese restaurants in DC at all. But anyway, I was highly impressed with the service, even if I did have to wait an hour to be seated... (Worth the wait, though next time I am definitely makin reservations.) Our...
  22. Ah yes those single bars are definitely a lot nicer. *impish grin* Dont tell my husband that I like my bars single! All right next time I go to WF I will definitely ask. Its quite possible that I am just plain ole blind... oh wait, yea, I remember now... I am. I cant see outta these infernal glasses. Stupid eye doctor gave me the wrong prescription...

    ARCHIVED My Head

It was the 365 brand fragrance free items at whole foods. Conditioner/Lotion/Shampoo/Shower Gel (And the shower gel works well for shavin too I noticed. Not a cut for the first time in my life!!!!!!!!!!!) I also got their hand soap too. I also like Toms of Maine products too. I got that in deodorant and toothpaste. Definitely good choices.
  24. So I should probably explain in advance that I am highly intolerant to fish and possibly other seafood... (Not sure on the latter as I aint never tried it) The worst fish for me is tuna fish, especially when it is that canned stuff. Its strong stench alone is enough to make me throw up, hence I cannot be in the same room with it. Normally I hide in my bedroom...
  25. "Are you still gluten free?" What in heavens name are you thinkin? I told you yesterday that I was gluten-free for medical reasons. Ye think I really would give up suddenly? "Yes I am." "How long you been gluten-free?" I got no idea of how long its been no more... "Uh, since October 1rst" "Two weeks! Wow. Are ye gonna do this the rest of your life?" ...
